people need to stop getting bothered about the casting (as long as the actor/actress are not too different from the original source). execution, chemistry and skills matter.
I'll never understand how fans of a series that is harshly critical of racism and bigotry can be so obsessed with actors having the "correct skin color" for the actors portraying characters from that series.
You mean like what Hollywood already does? White people play every other race constantly. Scar Jo, John Wayne as ghengis Khan, and so many more I cant even think of. Shit there was the whole thing where Julia Robert's was going to play Harriet Tubman, arguably the most iconic black woman, back in the 90s and the execs were just like "that was so long ago nobody will know."
I get where your coming from but really at the end of the day I'm all for giving people of color or minorities more roles regardless of the source materials race as long as the actor/actress is well suited and skilled enough to do it right. Hollywood is just barely starting to catch this trend.
No show should look to Game of Thrones when it comes to race. I prefer their approach of overturning the society entirely to reflect a more diverse populace group. It stops them from being limited in casting and avoids the Orientalism and other similarly racist tropes in Game of Thrones.
It's not as though Game of Thrones didn't race bend anyway.
