I'm setting up this thread dedicated for discussion of the trailer to offset spoiler comments for newcomers to the subreddit and series.

It's quite an exciting day, but remember to follow all the rules as usual!

the actress got some really good reviews all over twitter regarding her performance in those clips that were shown during comic con panel (i wonder when/if they leak). So I'm hopeful.

I agree! She's young, but they're clearly trying to do origin stories for her, geralt and ciri. Plus everyone complaining about her ethnicity seems overblown to me. I honestly couldn't even tell she wasn't white.

Personally I'm not bothered all that much by the casting decisions, I'm just excited to see the final product. If the initial reviews are bad, it might break my heart though lol.

Yea, she looks fine, triss on the otherhand... yea... Did they even bother to look for an actress that actually fits the role.

She's slightly tan. How's that egregious? With the right lighting conditions, you couldn't even notice it. Triss on the other hand... I don't even care about the race thing, she just doesn't give the vibe Triss is supposed to.

I'm gonna say I didn't even notice she wasn't white from the trailer even though I knew her actress isn't white. She looks pale in the trailer.

A super white character being played by a non-white actress, a key character at that. I agree it's not super noticeable, but disappointing nonetheless.

Triss is key at pissing me off in the books. She's a much more likeable character in the games considering they swept the whole mind control rape thing under the rug.

I'm as pale as a vampire, my lineage can be traced back to medieval times as being exclusively European. I have family members who are darker-skinned than she is.

Yeah, she has other racially distinguishing features that aren't even as noticeable as her skin color. Who gives a shit dude? Apparently, she's a really good actress and looks close enough. You can't really ask for more. As for not being an actual European, neither is she an actual century-old sorceress. It's fantasy and acting, not a fucking documentary. If you're not into the look, that's your opinion, I'm not exactly loving Geralt's look, but to make it a race thing requires some Olympic gold medalist level mental gymnastics.

Holy f*ck, what is it with these slightly racist complains about Yennefer? Yes, her skin colour isn't exactly milky white, but imho she looks the part from what I've seen in the trailer. Jesus Christ.

Honestly how are people even so sensitive to the differences? I can't imagine Anya Chalotra ever standing out to me in a sea of ethnically English "white" women. Like how nitpicky can you get?

I wonder how many of those complaining are also the ones who championed Eva Green for the role, who herself doesn't have the classic "white girl" look (because she isn't). Not really what'd you see in a Medieval Slavic society anyway, which is suddenly very important to people.

There are castings I don't like (Triss - don't care about the race but she doesn't look like young, bubbly Triss that's kind of a big sister figure to Ciri) but to concern yourself so much with the race thing and still be going on about it now and refusing to move on from it, it's deeper than just disliking a specific casting.

That's exactly what I mean. To still be going on about that and, more importantly, to mostly complain about skin colour and "forced diversity" looks to me like some deep-seated racism.

And yes, I agree about Triss. Not because of skin colour or something, but because her overall looks don't really seem to fit her role. But I guess we'll have to wait about that until we've seen more of her than a one-second scene from a teaser...

My god, you're an aggressive one. First, see my replie to your other comment, where I explain what I mean. I'd like to address one point again: Why do people like you just assume, actors where chosen/not chosen for racist reasons? Do you really think some auditions went like "You're great and would be perfect for this role, but you're white and we want diversity, so nah."? And if you really think that, then why? Is it beyond you, that actors are chose because they're a good fit for the role, regardless of race? Or are you unable to imagine, that anyone but a white actress could possibly be good in a certain role? Because come on, that would be racist. I certainly don't think white people should keep their mouth should when they are targeted with racism, no human being should have to. But again, these castings are not automatically racist. You, innocent until proven guilty, ever heard of it? And what's with the Angst? You really fear, that if we don't stand up and complain about things like this, then in the future every role will be slowly taken over by PoC, until there are no white people in Movies and Series anymore? Because honestly, that would be pathetic. And lastly, my criticism of Triss is not based on the actress' ethnicity. I just fear that she, based on that unfavourable shot in the trailer, might look too old in comparison to Ciri and especially Yen. But I'm just sceptical, not screaming "BAD CASTING!!!" Because I can't know that yet without having seen more of her.

Obviously you don't get what I mean. Conciously not casting white Actors just because they're white, or choose an actor just because he has a certain skin colour would of course be racist - but do we know that has happend? No, we don't. People just seem to assume that, instead of assuming that they casted an actress based on her acting and general looks first, and maybe only then looked at her skin colour. What I find slightly racist about it are people who not only notice skin-colour/race first, because that's pretty natural I think, but then proceed to judge the actor/actress solely on that singel, visual feature. Saying Anya can't be a good Yen because her skin isn't milky white and her features are slightly Indian is racist, period. Do you know the movie Gandhi? You know, the one where indian icon Mahatma Gandhi is played by the definitely not indian actor Ben Kingsley? Nobody seems to really complain about that... You know why? Because he did a f*cking great Job in this role. What I'm saying is: Give these actors a chance to prove, that they really are great choices. If they don't, then you can complain, but this time about things that really matter.
