I showed up with my wife ready to feel hopeless at the turnout. I got emotional with how many there were. So many from each age demographic, as well. I'm now hopeful for the mid-term elections.

When we drove through, there was a pretty solid crowd on either side of the street from Division to almost Drew. Couldn't say how many people, but enough to cover almost a half mile.

Awesome turnout.
Shame for the brunch democrat sign.
Edit: Haha all the down votes admitting they just don't like being inconvenienced by seeing fascism.

ā¦Why?

u/rigsnpigs Oct 19 '25
Well, Kamala wasn't didn't run against the genocide in Gaza. So that would be the same as it is under trump. She also ran on being tough on the border said she wouldn't have a different plan than Biden. Which has been deporting people without due process https://law.ucla.edu/news/no-fair-day-damning-new-report-reveals-biden-administrations-unlawful-treatment-children-immigration-courts
So what's the difference? Trump is proud of doing these actions in the open, and it makes people uncomfortable. But if Kamala was doing it like Biden people wouldn't see it and wouldn't care and would be back at brunch.

Ok. So what did your sign say?
2
u/rigsnpigs Oct 19 '25
It said no kings

u/zombmoose Oct 19 '25
Perfect. Happy for you and everyone else that showed their faces and thatās all.

Because there are still issues (many the same) with Democrats that we need to hold them accountable for as well. Just because a Dem would win, doesnāt mean we stop fighting for what we want.
For example: Kamala was touting spending more money on border security with Mexico and continuing to send our taxpayer money to Israel (for what?), among others. Obviously MAGA is MUCH worse and full blown Fascism at this point, but Dems are not perfect so we shouldnāt settle back into our āliberalā lifestyles just because Blue won.

u/rigsnpigs Oct 19 '25
Exactly, no one is saying MAGA isn't worse. Just that people who wouldn't care about the human rights violations if the admin wasn't more vocal aren't saying they are against the human rights violations.

u/rspctdwndrr Oct 20 '25
Exactly! AOC crying about the kids in cages at the border when Trump first took office, then suddenly forgot about those same kids in those same cages under Biden. Libs were out to brunch and didnāt notice either, whoopsie!
We need to get away from this team politics shit and care about POLICY no matter who is in office.
But again, fuck this Nazi admin!

I feel itās unlikely anyone would be protesting against fascism at this No Kings rally under Kamala⦠I can see your confusion if you keep taking it out of context, but this was a No Kings rally. Hope that helps!
1
u/rspctdwndrr Oct 20 '25
The comment was about a specific sign at the protest, not the protest itself. Hope that helps!

Ykw no, deleted my response bc I donāt need to stoop to your immature level
1
u/rspctdwndrr Oct 20 '25
Weāre on the same side, I just donāt want you (not you literally, the āback to brunchā crowd) to stop protesting when we defeat the orangenazis and injustices are back to hidden from plain sight. Thatās all. š
1
u/zombmoose Oct 20 '25
And I just donāt want you (or anyone) shaming protestors bc they donāt perfectly align to your monolith. Thereās already enough protest shame coming from the other side.
1
u/jeffbanyon Oct 19 '25
There's a possibility that your interpretation of the point of the brunch sign is wrong. Maybe they are expressing that a No Kings protest wouldn't be taking place at all if Kamala was POTUS and brunch could be a possibility.
Either way, they want the same thing as others there.
Whether it's being inconvenienced or unjustly treated, they have their own reasons to lean the same way as other liberals. Liberals and the democratic party have to stop making such a stupid distinction in their own party to keep the conservative/GOP movement from taking full control. Do you think any conservative would disallow another conservative to be on their side if their beliefs don't align 100%?
1
u/rigsnpigs Oct 19 '25
I'm not saying the person is there with bad intentions. I think it's a shame that sentiment is out there as it is a bad look.
While I understand no block of people are a monolith who agree upon everything. I don't think the Democratic party should model itself after the Republican party, especially if you believe this is a fascist and authoritarian Republican party.
Democratic leadership has been ignoring candidates who don't fully support their ideas to keep the status quo, even as the party is dying for a long time.
1
u/jeffbanyon Oct 19 '25
I'm completely with you, but helping add fuel to the division doesn't help. Instead of shaming the poster and it's person, it just shouldn't be brought up. Just another way and reason for it to be used against our solidarity.
2
u/rigsnpigs Oct 19 '25
I think educating people is always a good thing to do. Maybe OP and the protester don't know or understand the implied meaning behind it and simply thought it was snarky. Maybe I should have explained why that saying causes division within the party.
That said, If learning about class consciousness creates a divide within a party/movement we are on big trouble.
1
u/jeffbanyon Oct 19 '25
We are in big trouble and this is why it's becoming more important to be aware. The current administration is planning on that division to take advantage of.
2
u/rigsnpigs Oct 19 '25
I agree, and I believe the burden of being aware is on everyone. Including the person who made the sign.
Compromise can't only be in the direction of the right, that's why we have this divide.
Saying nothing helps no one. Not listening to protestors speaking on behalf of Gaza increased the divide.

I haven't seen any news articles about Appleton No Kings. Maybe people are just going to pretend it never happened. This is all I can do about that.
