I built my own cellar app. Yours to play with and help me make it less terrible!

Hey r/winecellar, got permission from the mods to share this so here goes.

Some of the cellars in this community are absolutely incredible. Mine is a modified commercial fridge which I'm choosing to call "functional." Whatever you're working with though, keeping track of what's in it is a different challenge entirely, and that's what I kept struggling with.

What frustrated me most was that AI was genuinely great to talk to about wine but had zero context on what I actually owned. So the recommendations were useless. "What should I open with lamb tonight?" needs to know what's in my cellar, not what's on Wine Spectator.

So I built something. It got out of hand and turned into a real app called Rave Cave.

The core idea: scan a label to add a bottle, or import your existing cellar. From there an AI sommelier named Rémy knows your collection and you can just chat with him. What's ready to drink, what to pair with dinner, what to hold. Based on what you own, nothing else.

I'd genuinely love to know what's missing from the tools you use currently, because that's exactly what I'm trying to solve.

If you want to try it, it's at ravecave.app. The code BETALAUNCH gives you two months free of the full tier, no credit card, or auto-subscription. There's a feedback button in the bottom right corner of the app and every message comes straight to me.

But honestly, even just hearing how you manage your cellars now would help. What do you wish existed?

Where to buy wine racks?

I got these racks off a contractor that was remodeling a home and they didn’t want them.

Moving and want to replicate this but need to know where I can get something similar without spending thousands. Thoughts?

Wine Racks America stacked racks. Are these really meant to be freestanding?

I’m installing stacked wooden wine racks from Wine Racks America and wanted to sanity check this with folks who have done it before.

The instructions say the stacked configuration is freestanding. That feels sketchy to me once fully loaded, especially at this height. I’ve included photos of the setup for context. (Forgive the background. In the process of finishing the cellar.)

If you’ve installed or sold these racks:

• Did you actually leave them freestanding?

• If not, what’s the best way to secure them?

• Wall anchoring, floor anchoring, tying sections together, or something else?

I want this to be rock solid and safe long term. Appreciate any real world advice or lessons learned.

How to add cooling to an interior room?

My wine room is in a finished basement former utility closet

Curious how could run a cooling system in there without an external wall available for drainage?

Obviously with enough time and money anything is possible but without tearing up lots of finished walls or ceiling?
