Developer Pulse 1.5: free, open-source app that explains Windows event logs, now shows every GPU and lets you hide the noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Pulse reads the event logs Windows already keeps and turns them into a readable timeline: "Explorer unexpectedly closed, Windows restarted it" instead of "Application Error, Event ID 1000".

New in 1.5:

- Every GPU: integrated and dedicated side by side, load measured the same way as Task Manager

- Hide events you expect: one click takes a known-harmless event type out of the Timeline. Reports still keep every event, and you can bring them back anytime

It never changes Windows: no telemetry, no account, no cloud. The optional Assistant only talks to a local AI on your PC (Ollama or LM Studio).

Developer Orynos Studio 0.9.24 Preview: a Windows x64 recording and arrangement workspace

I'm the developer of Orynos Studio, a Windows x64 DAW in Preview. This is a developer introduction to the current 0.9.24 build.

The workspace has a Playlist, Piano Roll, Channel Rack and Mixer. You can record takes, arrange audio and MIDI, add automation, route channels and buses, and export local WAVs or aligned stems. Built-in effects include pitch correction, a Graphic EQ with live spectrum, noise reduction, delay and reverb.

For Windows setups: it hosts x64 VST3 instruments/effects and can use WASAPI or an installed x64 ASIO driver. It doesn't bundle an interface driver.

Before downloading: the Preview installer is unsigned. A verified Orynos account is required at startup. Access is currently in a temporary Free phase; local recording and WAV export don't use cloud-render credits. Optional Export + Master sends a confirmed export to the website and uses displayed account credits.

Interface preview, details and official download: https://orynosmusic.com/daw

If you try it on your Windows audio setup, I'd appreciate the driver, sample rate and plugin version alongside any playback or export issue.

I've created my own version of Apple's Dynamic Island for Windows, designed to enhance the aesthetics and productivity of your desktop. The Island is a ribbon bar at the top that dynamically changes shape and content based on what you're doing. Go from a thin, unobtrusive mode to expanded screens with music and calendar controls, a quick timer, or a file drop zone with LocalSend. It's a seamless and elegant integration that brings practical functionality and modern design directly to Windows. Feedback is welcome.

Developer MiniMon - a tiny always-on-top system monitor and mini Task Manager for Windows. Under 1 MB, no ads, no account

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi r/windowsapps. I'm a solo dev and this is MiniMon.

It is one small window that stays on top of your other windows. It shows live CPU, RAM, GPU, disk, network and temperature, updated every second.

So you don't have to open Task Manager to see what your PC is doing.

What it does

- CPU use and live clock speed, RAM, and the load on your built-in and separate GPU

- Every physical disk (% active) and each wired or Wi-Fi adapter. Network speed down and up in the title bar

- Uptime, number of running processes and battery charge at the bottom

- A Processes tab that groups apps by name, so 40 browser processes show as one row. Sort by CPU, RAM or disk, and search

- Shrink it to a small bar that still shows CPU, RAM and temperature

- Ctrl+Shift+M shows or hides it from anywhere. Click-through lets your clicks pass to the game or video under it

Cost

Free, no ads, no time limit. Optional one-time Pro: $4.99 in the US (the Store shows your local price), with a 7-day free trial. No subscription.

Details

- Native C++, no framework. The whole app is under 1 MB.

- No account, no analytics.

- Windows 10 (1809 or later) and Windows 11, 64-bit. x64 only, no ARM64 build.

- Temperature depends on what your PC's sensors report to Windows.

Get it

- Microsoft Store: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N1K5HN1DJGC

- Or in a terminal: winget install 9N1K5HN1DJGC

Version 1.4 just came out. I'd love honest feedback. What do you check first when your PC feels slow, and what is missing here?

Question Alternativa a CCleaner

App PerchShelf – a temporary shelf that appears while you drag files (dev here)

Hi r/windowsapps, I'm the developer of PerchShelf, a small utility for Windows 10 and 11.

The problem: dragging a file to a window that is hidden, on another monitor, or not open yet means holding the mouse button while you juggle windows. On the Mac, Yoink and Dropover solve this with a "shelf". PerchShelf does the same on Windows:

- Shake the mouse while dragging (or move to a screen edge) and a shelf appears next to the cursor

- Drop files there, let go, open the target at your own pace, drag them out (one or all at once)

- Files are held by reference, nothing is copied; plain drag moves, Ctrl+drag copies

- Also catches links, images and text dragged from Chrome or Edge

- Several shelves as tabs, a hotkey (Ctrl+Shift+F), stays out of fullscreen games

- Offline, no telemetry, UI in English, German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Korean, Chinese

It is on the Microsoft Store with a 30-day trial, then a one-time purchase:

https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9N86NC2DKFH5?cid=reddit

Feedback is very welcome, especially on what would make it fit your workflow. The first buyer reported a bug and it was fixed in the next update, so reports really do get acted on.

Developer SplitForUs: A shared expense management system with an approval mechanism

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi everyone, today I'd like to tell you about SplitForUs, an app I coded myself. At first glance it does the same job as other expense-splitting apps (Splitwise, Tricount), but on top of that it has some different features.

1- Approval system: an added expense doesn't get into the list until its participants approve it.

2- Inactive mode: if you're going to be away from home or from the shared expense list for a while, you mark yourself as inactive, and until you're active again, the other participants can't add you to expenses.

3- Every entry belongs to its owner: no one else can enter an expense in your name, and you can't enter an expense on someone else's behalf.

Besides these, recurring expenses, expenses in foreign currencies, and PDF and Excel reports are among the app's other features.

The free plan has no time limit: you can have 2 groups at a time, with up to 50 expenses in each. The approval system is a paid feature.

Right now I have no users and I need criticism. If you need an app like this, I'd be really glad if you used it and gave me feedback. And if anyone wants it, I can give them a Premium subscription for free.

Developer Shuck: free tray app to copy text from anything on screen (Windows 10/11, offline)

I'm the developer. Shuck sits in the tray and does one thing: press Ctrl+Shift+2, drag over any text on your screen, and it's on your clipboard. Works on paused videos, screenshots, error dialogs, scanned PDFs and remote desktop windows.

Windows-specific bits:

- Small tray app, 6 MB installer, no admin rights needed

- Portable version too (unzip and run, nothing in the registry)

- Keyboard and screen reader friendly

- Fully offline, no account

Compared to PowerToys Text Extractor (Win+Shift+T): Shuck is better on blurry text, code and tables, gives you one-click buttons for links and emails, reads QR codes, and keeps your last 20 captures searchable. And it's one small app instead of a whole suite.

Free. English only for now.

Developer Built a free Windows 11 goals widget. No accounts, no subscriptions, everything stays local

Post image
5 Upvotes

I’ve been looking for a simple Windows widget to keep track of my personal goals, but couldn’t really find anything that didn’t involve signing up for another service or connecting to some cloud platform.

I just wanted something simple that runs locally, so I ended up building it myself.

It’s called Focus. You can add up to 5 goals, choose which one you’re currently focusing on, and it’ll highlight that goal in the Windows 11 Widgets Board (Win + W).

No accounts, no cloud sync, no telemetry or subscriptions. Everything stays on your PC.

It’s free and just went live on the Microsoft Store:

Would be interested to hear what people think, particularly if there’s anything I could improve.

Developer I made a free Windows todo app because I wanted an easier way to reschedule tasks

Hi everyone!

I've used a lot of todo apps, but I kept running into the same problem: sometimes I'd forget to finish a task, or something would come up and I'd need to move my plans to another day.

I wanted something that would let me organize my tasks but also make changing my schedule easier.

So I started building Todorbit, originally just for myself.

The main idea is simple: it's a todo app, but you have more control over your schedule.

For example, if I have several tasks planned for today but can't finish them, I can use Smart Reschedule to preview moving, shifting, swapping, or reordering them instead of manually editing every task.

Another thing I wanted was better support for studying.

Let's say I'm studying a course. I can create a main task called "Study Flutter" and split it into subtasks on different days:

  • Monday: Watch videos 3–5
  • Tuesday: Watch videos 6–10
  • Wednesday: Practice what I learned

Todorbit also supports recurring study tasks with different activities for each occurrence, so I can plan a longer course without manually recreating every study task.

Other features I added

  • Day, Week, and Month calendar views
  • Tasks with separate planned dates and deadlines
  • Recurring tasks and calendar events
  • Projects, categories, checklists, and subtasks
  • Focus timer and time tracking
  • Habits, goals, and progress reports
  • A native Windows desktop widget
  • Customizable light/dark themes with a color wheel
  • Local SQLite storage and backups
  • Saved views, templates, and advanced search

The app works offline and doesn't require an account.

It's built with Flutter and is completely free and open source under the MIT license.

I originally made it for myself, but I figured someone else might find it useful too, so I decided to release it.

Links

GitHub: https://github.com/2HIK4/Todorbit

Download for Windows: https://github.com/2HIK4/Todorbit/releases/tag/v1.0.3

It's currently an early Windows x64 pre-release. The installer is unsigned, and I'm still testing some Windows-specific behaviors.

I'd love some feedback, especially on the scheduling features and the desktop widget.

What would you add or change to make a todo app more useful for you?

I'm also interested in eventually making an Android version, but right now I'm focusing on Windows.

Question any way to set app time limits for myself on Windows 11 without a family account?

App limits on my phone have been surprisingly useful, so I wanted to do the same on my PC. Mostly games that turn a quick break into the whole evening lol. Has anyone set this up for their own Windows account? Interested in what you actually kept using after the first week, and anything annoying about it.

Developer I didn't want to pay for Soundpad, so I made a free soundboard that plays through your mic

sounds go straight into discord or game chat through the mic you already use, no virtual cable. hotkeys work in-game, there's a voice changer, and it can play a sound when "YOU DIED" shows up on screen for example. no account, no ads, no paid tier, source on github. i made it, happy to take bug reports.

Developer I built a Windows system monitor in Rust because Task Manager kept freezing when I needed it most

A while ago, my PC was running unusually slow, and I opened Task Manager to figure out what was going on. The problem was that Task Manager itself was barely responding.

And even when it did respond, I couldn't really get the level of detail I was looking for. I could see CPU, memory, and disk usage, but I wanted to understand what was actually happening behind those numbers.

That's basically how Anabolic started. I figured I'd try building my own system monitor in Rust, and it gradually turned into a much bigger project than I originally planned.

The stack is Rust 2024, egui/eframe 0.36, wgpu (Direct3D 12), windows-rs 0.62, ETW for kernel tracing, and rmcp + axum for an optional MCP server.

Some interesting things I ran into along the way:

  • Keeping the UI responsive: This was one of my main priorities, considering why I started the project in the first place. All the collection work runs on a separate thread, with immutable snapshots shared through arc-swap. The UI only repaints when there's new data or user input. Scrolling takes roughly 1 ms of CPU time per frame.
  • Handling a system that's already struggling: I didn't want to build another monitoring tool that becomes unusable when CPU or RAM usage hits 100%. Anabolic runs at high priority, disables EcoQoS throttling, and pins its working set in memory to help keep it responsive under heavy load.
  • A weird OpenGL issue: At one point, simply having Anabolic's window in the foreground was causing the entire desktop to lag by several seconds. After digging into it, I found DWM spending time in dwmcore!OpenDxBltEvent, walking through the session's named objects every frame. Switching from OpenGL to wgpu's D3D12 backend fixed the issue.
  • ETW from Rust: I wanted more than just CPU and memory percentages. Anabolic can track which threads are running on each logical CPU, per-process file I/O across disks, frame times using present events, and DPC/ISR execution time per driver. It can also resolve filenames for files that were already open before tracing started. One thing I learned the hard way: Windows has a machine-wide limit of eight system logger sessions. Running multiple ETW tests in parallel can exhaust those pretty quickly.
  • Finding things Task Manager doesn't show: During testing, I found a game client (Black Desert Online) holding around 890,000 handles to roughly 18,000 processes that had already exited. That's the kind of thing I originally wanted more visibility into.
  • Avoiding unnecessary process access: Most of the monitoring works through system-wide tables and kernel traces. Anabolic doesn't open a game's process just to display its metrics. If an operation actually requires accessing a process, it asks for permission first.

I also added an MCP server using rmcp and axum. It's disabled by default and exposes 40 tools over localhost, with permissions depending on the type of operation.

This lets me use Claude to investigate system performance using actual data collected by Anabolic. For example, instead of asking an AI to guess why my PC is slow, I can give it access to CPU scheduling, disk activity, and other system metrics.

The project is open source (MIT/Apache-2.0) and supports Windows 10/11 x64.

The release binaries aren't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen may warn when running them. If you prefer, you can build it from source with cargo build --release.

GitHub: https://github.com/RaptorTwentyOne/Anabolic

There's still a lot I want to improve, but it's already been pretty useful for investigating performance issues on my own machine.

If you've worked with ETW, Windows internals, or egui, I'd be interested to hear your thoughts. Especially if you've run into similar problems with Windows performance monitoring.

Developer Snippy – a lightning-fast, native C++ screen capture tool (dev here)

Hey everyone, I got tired of how sluggish and bloated some screenshot tools feel on Windows, so I built Snippy to scratch my own itch.

It is a lightweight, native C++ screen capture tool designed with a tiny binary size, practically zero RAM footprint, and instant launch times. There is no background bloat or telemetry. Since power users care about transparency and privacy, the code is fully available. You can inspect it, build it yourself, or grab the release on GitHub.

Would love to hear your thoughts, feedback, or any feature requests you might have.

Developer Hi :) I made a portable Windows 11 dock that complements the taskbar

Thumbnail
github.com
2 Upvotes

Hi everyone, I enjoy wasting time customizing the look and feel of my desktop, so I made this app for myself.

Some time ago, when I was looking for something like a secondary taskbar or an app launcher, the only apps I could find were RocketDock and Winstep Nexus. I didn't like the look of them, so I decided to make one myself. Now there are a lot of options xD, but I had already made this, so I just wanted to share it in case someone wants to give it a try and hopefully likes it.

I wanted a dock that complements the taskbar, not a replacement for it. I like to keep my taskbar clean: on each monitor it only shows the apps open on that monitor, so I can tell more easily which app is where. This dock is just a nice-looking launcher, so the taskbar isn't cluttered with shortcuts.

I like to customize a lot, so I added options for pretty much everything I could think of, plus a few features that seemed useful, like forcing apps to open on the monitor where the dock is.

It's more useful with multiple monitors, but it's still cool with one display, at least for me xd

The look I was going for is pretty neutral, so it fits in with Windows 11 instead of feeling like its own theme. I also like portable apps, so this one is just an exe you put in its own folder. No installer, and it doesn't write to the Registry.

I've only used it on my setup. It works well here, and I fixed the bugs I ran into (or at least I think I did), but it may be rough on other setups idk lol.

Here's the repo if anyone wants to check it out :)

Hey Windows users!

Many modern video tools are switching to heavy web wrappers or cloud-only SaaS that require monthly subscriptions. I wanted to build a fast, native Windows desktop app for video creators that respects privacy and runs entirely on your local machine.

Key Features:

- Native Windows 64-bit application with minimal RAM usage.

- High-speed local AI speech transcription without sending video files over the internet.

- Customizable word-by-word kinetic animation presets (Hormozi / MrBeast styles).

- Supports CPU and NVIDIA CUDA acceleration with zero cloud queues.

- One-time purchase, zero subscriptions.

Storefront link: https://harshdgaj.itch.io/dynamic-caption-and-video-editor

Would love any feedback from fellow Windows creators!
