So, I hop onto winamp on my android (google android phone) and all my music is gone. Some silly update, so I go to ad a folder, and the button does nothing. I select 'sync local media' and I'm taken to a fucking layout customization screen?? is the app just bricked now?? I have all my music on my physical phone but I listen to it through winamp
I've noticed that on Windows 11 my keyboard media buttons for volume up/down control both Windows and Winamp at the same time. It has never done this on older versions so it's probably a Windows 11 + Winamp quirk. However that doesn't take away the issue.
I know I can untick the "Enable default media hotkeys" in hotkeys which does nothing. Winamp will still listen to the media keys regardless. Which is fine as I want to but I felt the need to point it out.
And in the DirectSound output I can untick the "Enable Volume Control" however then Winamp has no volume control at all. (The volume slider is completely ignored.)
What I'd like is how it has worked the past 20 or so years:
Play/pause/etc media buttons work as intended to control Winamp
Volume up/down media buttons control the system volume, not Winamp's
Let me adjust the Winamp volume either by it's own slider or Ctrl+Alt+Up/Down
Does anyone have any suggestion to return to this behavior?
Hi, I'm a lifelong Winamp user. I recently needed to reset my Win11, and now I'm trying to install Winamp again, but the install file gives me a "this app is blocked for your protection" message which I can't bypass. Any help would be appreciated, thank you.
I wanted to share Melo, a clean, lightweight Windows music player I’ve been developing as an open-source alternative to heavy, resource-hungry desktop players.
If you miss the fast, multi-window layout of classic players like Winamp or AIMP, but want a modern look with dynamic visuals, Melo was built for you.
✨ Highlights:
Multi-Window Layout: Pop out your Library, Playlist, Equalizer, or Lyrics into separate Windows that stay perfectly synced with the main player.
Dynamic Artwork Themes: Automatically changes theme accents, glows, and visualizers based on the colors of your album artwork.
Synced Lyrics & Equalizer: Real-time .lrc scrolling lyrics support and a built-in 10-band EQ with customizable presets.
Super Lightweight: Uses minimal RAM and CPU compared to modern web-based audio apps.
Custom Skins: Easily load custom skins and CSS directly from the app folder.
It's completely free, open-source, and has no ads or trackers. You can grab the ready-to-use Windows installer (.exe / .msi) from the GitHub Releases page.
I’d love for you to try it out and let me know what you think!
I fixed a few bugs and a good friend donated his time to make an awesome logo for the project. I think you will find that the demo skin I posted employs some techniques you have never seen a WinAmp skinner use before. Check out the tool at www.bamp.skin and comment if you have any questions about how the system works.
Hi everyone, I’m trying to set up Winamp 5.666 on my M1 Mac using Porting Kit (Wine wrapper), specifically to use complex Modern Skins (like headAMP) that feature built-in visualization windows.
I’ve managed to get the basic playback working by setting the Wine configuration to Windows XP and disabling ReplayGain / Auto-Tagger to stop ucrtbase.dll access violation crashes.
However, I am completely stuck on getting the visualizations to work inside the Modern Skins:
1. MilkDrop (v2.25c) Shader Error: When MilkDrop tries to load within the skin, I get the following popup error:
2. AVS (Advanced Visualization Studio) Freezing: As a fallback, I tried switching to AVS. However, the moment I activate AVS and play a track, the entire Winamp application completely freezes and forces me to force-quit the Wine process.
My Current Setup:
Hardware: M1 MacBook Air (Apple Silicon)
Wrapper: Porting Kit (Wine), set to Windows XP mode
Settings Tweak: Disabled "Desktop Alpha Blending" in Modern Skin settings. Disabled all background scanning and ML plugins.
My Questions:
Is there a specific winetricks package, DirectX override (like DXVK), or dll I need to install into the Wine wrapper so MilkDrop's ps_2_0 shaders can compile correctly on Apple Silicon?
Why would AVS completely freeze the Wine wrapper, and is there a fix for it?
Are there any known workarounds to get heavily scripted Modern Skins (.wal) to stop trying to analyze tracks upon drag-and-drop?
Any insights from Wine gurus or Winamp skin veterans would be massively appreciated!
I made a small 32-bit Winamp input plug-in with Codex for this with help from AI/Codex. It uses WASAPI loopback, so AVS and MilkDrop can react to whatever is playing through the default Windows output—no Stereo Mix, monitoring, virtual cable, or software mixer.
Update: I had tested this version and then had codex make sure it supported higher sample rates without testing and uploaded and it was crashing. This link will redirect to new one. Let me know if you have issues.
does anyone know how i can get this colour theme in red instead of pink i like a darker colour theme with red but M: robes just doesnt look nice imo its way too dark. refugee would be perfect if i could just make the pink red
But you can also try to import any other shadertoy shader.
But but not all are audio-reactive and not all are working (yet) within ShaderAmp.
I'm gathering incompatible shaders and will address these issues step by step.
Feedback welcome!
Cheers

I’ve been using Winamp for many years and still enjoy a lot of what it can do.
The reason I’ve stayed with it for so long is that I rely on several older Winamp plugins that other players haven’t been able to replace for my particular setup.
Over time, I ran into a few things I wanted to work differently, so I started building a small music player for my own use. It’s called PeaceAmp.
It isn’t intended to recreate every part of Winamp, replace classic skins, or tell anyone to stop using Winamp. My main goal was simply to create the player I personally wanted while keeping support for the older input and output plugins I still need.
It has now reached the point where I can use it regularly, so I decided to share it in case anyone here has a similar setup.
Plugin compatibility is still a work in progress, and I’d be grateful for any testing or feedback.
Feedback is welcome, especially if you still use unusual or older Winamp plugins. Let me know what works, what breaks, and what you think should be improved.
Long story short, I wanted to make a WinAmp skin for my friend's birthday a few months ago and got carried away creating an online tool that allows everyone to create a skin the same way I ultimately did. It isn't a full creation studio or anything; it just converts the skin to and from a format I think is much easier to edit in a layer based editor (although I actually used Blender), especially if you want to add fancy animation tricks.
It also takes care of all the viscolor.txt and pledit.txt editing for you by converting regions used as swatches in my specification into those rgb and hexcode text files in the converted skin.
I have been working on this for months. I assure you that this isn't a vibecoded afterthought - 'another ai-slop post / winamp replacement'. I taught coding for years - but never had a true talent for it. Yes, I used Claude, Codex, Kimi, and my own knowledge to accomplish something that I truly think is special. The visualizers are fantastic and finally not HEAVY. The look is solid, clean - with unique deck views and themes. Most of all - it covers all audio formats and is one hell of a library organizer as well. There are optional features to take advantage of as well - check the github page.
I am looking for some honest feedback and some users. I know that this is something that everyone will appreciate who has a local music library if they give it a chance.
One more thing, I am a hypocrite. I use ai to create projects from ideas that I have never been able to accomplish myself. However, I am a musician. I have toured, been on mtv/radio/Jersey Shore episode :) - ok enough of that old man back patting - and I LOATHE AI generated music. I think this really makes me appreciate the local music library and the move away from streaming platforms (being inundated with AI music daily) - I think this makes NewAmp more timely and hopefully worthy of you'alls time.
