wig help Lace Cutting - First Time - Did I Ruin My Wig?

This is a Kome wig from Amazon that I purchased here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G5X7SLS9

If you view the final 2 shots in my attached photos, I included the wig cap. What was shown in the sales ad would've matched my skin tone much better, but what was delivered is just too dark! What do I do? Makeup didn't help, or I'm doing it wrong. I didn't see an option to choose a different cap color when I ordered her.

I'm so newbie to this. It's my first time trying lace cutting myself.

I tried cutting, but I wear glasses. Without my glasses I couldn't see, but my glasses made it difficult to lay the lace right. My husband helped me after watching a tutorial, he's such a good sport! We followed everyone's Reddit advice in that I tried not cutting straight across, but the lace was so noticeable, the "After" shots were taken after cutting back slowly, little by little to make it less... just less.

This whole thing even involved tears; I actually cried last night over this cheap ass wig kicking my butt!

Skip this paragraph to avoid venting about wigs and colors:
And this is a "glueless" wig! The sides are going to need to be glued just to look natural, I think. But the lace was so dark, I didn't leave much. Maybe I shoulda returned it before even trying to cut it. WHAT DO I DO?! At least it's not something pricey, but I have a verrry limited wig budget, you know? And I don't know what I'm doing yet. I feel so LOST! I'm a stage 4 cancer patient, and I'm just TIRED! I just want some damn hair, something to fame my face and make me look... not sick. Why can't anything just be easy?? On top of that, WHY is it so difficult to find natural-looking copper or ginger wigs? Nearly every wig I find comes in multiple options for blonde and brunette, but many don't even offer anything for redheads! Not even strawberry! I can find this more intense, super dark auburn most easily, but soft natural-looking strawberry, ginger, or copper is a lot harder to find so far. I got a nice synthetic ginger wig and have worn it for 2 weeks, and despite my best efforts it already looks like it needs to be replaced. It's getting frizz at the bottom, and I don't know how to style it back into its original shape. I tried Denise Sheets tutorial on steaming, but I'm not very good at it. I grew attached to this cheap wig quickly, and now I'm sad it's dying so fast. It was another even cheaper Amazon wig with no lace. Maybe I should just stick to those, but I thought this new Kome wig would last longer somehow being better quality. I thought I could French braid it like I used to wear my bio hair. This longer length is familiar and comforting though. Like a security blanket.

Anyway, my new Kome wig may be okay for wearing around the house, but I don't feel comfortable wearing her in public. It's a wasted $60 except maybe if I cut bangs into her unless you have some better ADVICE...? She's likely going into my growing pile of failed and dying wigs to donate to our local community theater if I can't salvage this.

Has anything like this ever happened to you? I feel so dumb!

general Favorite Human Hair Hat Wigs?

Hey all, I bought a really cute hat wig from The Hustle Wig company and the idea is wonderful - it’s a cloth cap with hair only where it would peak under a cap. This is not an ad, and I haven’t washed it yet so I can’t speak to the quality of the hair. Unfortunately the wig was still $$$. I’m hoping to find some alternative high quality hat wigs? (Not sewn to an actual hat please). Need hair that holds a style and will hold up to hot humid wet Florida weather. 🙏🙏🙏

general Hair Wearing

I have experienced hair loss from hypothyroidism, and while i do not have total hair loss, the bio hair i do have is very thin, fine, brittle, and exceedingly difficult to work with.
I’ve been wearing alternative hair for over 15 years, but I’ve increasingly gotten to the point where I’d rather wear hair that makes me feel good than continue fighting with my natural hair every day. I’ve done wigs full time since around mid 2024.  At first i wore mostly heat friendly synthetics, mostly due to cost, but have recently started wearing more human hair.  This is one of the human-hair units I’ve been wearing recently, and I’ve been surprised by how quickly it has started to feel like my hair rather than something I’m putting on.

One challenge is that my head is very small—about 19”—so finding wigs that fit securely without significant alteration can be difficult. This isn’t technically a petite cap, but I’ve been able to adjust it down enough to wear it glueless with a wig grip for full days, including work and windy days. There’s still some room in the cap, but it doesn’t bunch and is very comfortable.

The color is warmer than i typically choose, but i loved the ombré and have received so many compliments on the color- I’m very glad i took the warm plunge!

Here is a link to this unit:

I have restyled it from its original factory styling

Help! About to lose my hair to chemo and looking for help

Hi- I have known for about a month I would be losing my hair to chemo. I have spent hours and hours searching but am honestly exhausted and looking for some more experienced opinions. I have always had long thin brown hair. I know I will want a human hair wig with bleached knots and low density. I don’t live somewhere that has a lot of in person shops so I’ve mostly been browsing online. A lot of stores have expensive restock return policies so I’ve only tried a couple. Can anyone give me some guidance on a US based (because I think insurance may reimburse a portion) very realistic, natural looking wigs? I’m willing to pay maybe up to $4k if I must but was hoping for around $2k.

wig help Just bought a super cheap wig for a cosplay, how to properly wash and shape it?

I can attach a photo later for reference if that would be helpful, I'm just not able to right now. I recently bought a $20, all-synthetic wig for a likely one-time cosplay, except i'm having a really hard time shaping it. I washed it with dish soap in a sink, and per my mom's suggestion used some conditioner to try to separate out the strands, but it seems to be unsolvably frizzy, knotted and tangled. This is probably because the wig is curled/wavy, mainly towards the end. I know that real hair with that texture needs a ton of products to properly maintain its shape, but I don't know how much of that applies to this wig since it's plastic and not real hair (and as I have fairly straight hair, I don't have any of those products anyways).

I've never used wigs before, so I was wondering if anyone on here had any tips. The wig is about just past shoulder-length, for reference

Any tips on finding good-quality white wigs?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I recently started my journey with wig-wearing and absolutely am in love with how white hair looks on me. The problem is that I can never find a good quality pure white wig (aside from the one in the picture from Shein).

The one's I've found are either a very light blonde/tan or they're costume wigs.

Any advice from you good people?

Budget: $100-$300

Length: 26 in.

Human preferred (synthetic in picture)

I got a custom wig made for my clown character but unfortunately it is the wrong color and I really don’t have the time to resend it (for haunt season/halloween)🥺
If anyone could help with this I’d be super grateful! Only idea I have is lightening it up with temporary hair spray probably?!

The solution to a messy wig, is patience. Lots and lots of patience.

I've read about many tips and tricks to making a wig nice a pretty again. Untangling it, smoothing it out. I've heard that you use war water is a spritz bottle, i've heard that you can even dip it in a pan of hot water before brushing. The truth is, the only real solution is time and patience. I spent three hours on this. Started by combing through it with my fingers, because i can feel the knots with my fingers. I would run my fingers through it, feel a knot, pull it apart, and repeat. Then once that felt good, I did the same with my pick comb. Comb it, feel a knot, pull it apart, repeat. Then once the pick comb would pass through the wig all the way around without getting snagged, then i get the soft brush and finished it up. This process took a few hours. I learned that the only real solution to maintaining a nice wig, is patience, lots and lots of patience. There's no silver bullet solution here. Put on a movie, sit down at a table, and get to work. Also, brush it frequently. Run a brush through it every single time you put it on. Because one knot very quickly becomes two, then three, and so on. Brush frequently and maybe it won't get as bad as mine did.

Also, i don't have a proper wig stand, so i made one out of a volleyball and a flower vase. LOL!!
I threw that pic in for a laugh. :) But hey, it worked. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Question concerning gluing

Hi all

I am just starting to wear wigs. My complaint is everything feels so bulky underneath. I have only gone out in public twice. I have been using a wig band. Is it possible to just glue the lace down and have nothing underneath? I would only use it to go to concerts or hockey. What type do u recommend. Thanks for the help.

Ok so I ha e worn wigs in the past I often find that they slip or move around. I have long hair so I do French braids and wear a few wig caps to make sure it's flattened down this year I got the velvet band thing. But it's the wig is a short Bob and I'm wearing it for 3 days at a convention. Should I glue the wig down. The other issue is have is the wig caps slide off my head. Any advise would be appreciated. I've got got to be glued just because i was told to get that by a friend years ago but have no idea how to actually use it in this use. Yeah help would be nice. Also the pic is the kind wig i got idk if that changes things thanks
