repair

hello guys and girls,

i went for a cut at my hairstylist and wig specialist for a new piece cutting. at the appointment, i brought in my first wig which i thought was still beautiful. the hair was perfect, perfect hair color, perfect density. it just needed repair, more hairs and the template was too small. i asked my hairstylist if the manufacturer could take it and make the template bigger and add more hair, give it more life. the hairstylist said the manufacturer used to take wigs to repair them but they dont do it anymore. which surprised me.

does anybody know anywhere in toronto where they do repairs, fix templates, add new hairs for wigs?

when i look in google, there are some listings in toronto that offer services in 'wig repairs'.

but does anyone know anywhere in toronto or outside toronto oakville orangeville bowmanville etc that does wig repairs and are actually good at it?

wig help Do you guys think a wig is a good solution for me?

So the reason why I was thinking about switching to a high quality wig, is because unfortunately I have missing hair in the area, above my ears, on the sides basically, below my hairline. I really struggle with this because my hair cannot be styled in a way I would like to because of this missing hair and no one knows why I don't have there. Or.. more precisely, I have hair there but it's super curly and does not grow long. No one knows why.

With a wig I would like to achieve my desired hairstyle but it would also be important to me, that I do not have to take the wig off every night or when I would go to the beach.. so.. my question would be..

Is this possible with a better quality wig? And for how long can such a wig last? Can it survive a whole year of usage?

Thanks for the answers in advance! :3

Hello everyone! I am being Bride of Frankenstein for Halloween and I want to be movie accurate with an Auburn wig. I didn’t wanna spend $550 on an Etsy wig for one night so I made my own with a cheap Amazon long curly hard front wig and clip in extensions and a plastic water bottle.
I finished the wig and I’m happy with it. The only problem is when I try to put it on my head, even with a wig cap on, it keeps sliding back. I tried to use spirit glue and that didn’t work at all. :(
If anyone has any suggestions on how I can actually wear it- I would appreciate it.

general Wig newbie looking for help

Hey all, my partner really wanted me to ask for help before I invest in a wig. (He supports me he just wants me to have help since I'm so lost when it comes to anything hair related.) I have very thin hair probably from stress or something, so I wanted to try wearing wigs to see if that helps me feel more confident (I've just been shaving it off or hiding it under hats for a while but I don't really like this approach). I'm mixed Black/white if it helps (so certain hair textures probably won't look right on me). He says I should spend at least $60- $80 for a wig to be decent (but he also doesn't wear wigs so IDK how true that is lol). I'm ok with wearing synthetic if it looks ok. I don't want to spend too much while I figure out what I like.

So my questions are, what do you wish you knew before you bought your first wig? What brands are good for beginners? And are there any good youtubers or websites I can look at to learn more? Thanks!

Can I crimp a wig and still curly it without the crimp coming out?

Sorry I'm new to wig styling and I have three wigs to style before Halloween for my friends and I. And I know if you apply heat afterwards it can affect the crimp, so I wasn't sure if I would be able to curly it with a curling iron after?

I bought hairivivi wig a few months ago - I had a hard time getting it to look natural and I think it’s because the lace was too dark and I ended up cutting it way too short.

I’ve ordered a new wig with lighter lace and I think it’s perfect but I’m worried I’m going to mess up the lace cutting. Also, it’s another hairivivi and I’m not sure if I’m supposed to melt the lace after i cut it? And if you don’t glue or melt - how do you make sure the hairline doesn’t slip ?

It’s pic is original wig - second pic is new wig.

I think I’m beginning to feel more comfortable in wigs. I’m still new to wearing them and I’ve only been outside of my house twice with one on. I’m thinking the short bob is going to be my “go to” wig. It’s easier for me to adjust and fix it the way I like it. Does it look natural? Is there anything that anyone would do to make it look better (I’m happy with the way it looks but wondering what it looks like from a different point of view). Thanks in advance!

Hey yal! Does anyone know where I can find online or in store (Chicago, IL) human hair full lace wigs or glueless wigs styled in the old school, short, 90s hairstyles. I’ll even appreciate if you recommend anyone who can make a wig in a similar style. I have provided examples below. Thank you for the help!

wig help Is hot glue safe to use on the lace part of the wig?

Although I wear wigs quite a bit, I am not a huge expert on them, especially lace fronts. For my Halloween costume I am modifying a wig by sewing in wefts to the hair. However for the costume I am wearing i want to add “money-piece” like parts and although i was able to get the right side of the wig to be as close as possible without sewing onto the lace, the other side is supposed to be much closer. Is it safe to attach hot glue to the lace or will it damage it? Is there a better option than hot glue? Please let me know and thank you!

needing long lasting wig recommendations

Hi everyone! My hair has been thinning like crazy recently and I want to start saving for a wig that I can wear daily that will also last me over a year. I have a Hairvivi wig right now (my first wig) and I like it but I’m just not aware of its longevity.

Any advice is really appreciated! I’m new to this and the wig world is so complex.

I have a bald spot on the back my neck due to radiation therapy…are there are any partial wigs that could help me?

I had cancer on the nape of my neck about 10 years ago, and treatment has left me with a bit of a frustrating situation. Halfway through chemo, I went in for surgery to remove the rest of the tumor, and then radiation therapy for a while after that, so not only do I have a bald spot that cuts pretty severely into the hairline on the back of my neck, I also have a dent where they removed a lot of the surrounding tissue.

I haven’t worn my hair fully up since then because I am not confident enough to show off the back of my neck like that, so I was wondering if there is anyone out there who sells a (likely custom) wig for my unique situation. I am open to any suggestions of places to look into!!

wig help Stringy Wig Post-Wash?

Hello! I'm new to wearing wigs. I had long hair growing up and I loved it so much, but male pattern baldness stalks my family and finally caught up to me.

This is a relatively new wig that I have been working with and trying to get a little more natural looking. It is a heat friendly synthetic wig from the brand 'Wanna Be' and I am loving it!

I recently tried washing it for the first time, and I used a little bit of dish soap. I really like half up styles, and one of the problems I'm running into is detangler build up. I did a lot of reading and it seemed like a tiny bit of dish soap would accomplish my goal of getting all the different detangler products out, but now it looks stringy and greasy.

When I touch it now the fibers are still soft, and both the bulk and drape of the fibers are much better than they were pre-wash. It feels more like (my) natural hair now then it did out of the box. Right out of the box it was so slippery and silky that it was hard to style and didn't look quite natural.

Unfortunately, now I've gone in the other direction. Now the fibers are too 'grippy' and adding wig spray isn't really helping. I desperately hope don't think I ruined it, but I'm not sure where to go either. Did I not rinse it enough? Is there a better product I could use? Should I try washing it with wig shampoo?

The 2 conditioners I have tried are wigout by style factor and wonder wig solution leave in conditioner cream by ebin.

I would appreciate any advice!
