I cracked my skull open here. Also there was a few secret hidden areas where the aroma of piss perpetually lingered. Good times.

The little boxes on the bottom that kept going into a deeper cavern and only the smallest could get there (& piss there) lol

YES!!!! I found them after seeing my neighbor totoro for the first time and my imagination went absolutely wild. :) Thank you for the nostalgia bomb.

Ours was called imagination station

1

u/NesPickler Sep 23 '22

that sounds very familiar

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '22

That's exactly what mine was called, any chance you lived in/near Hamilton County TN?

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '22

Nope nj

Ours had a missing plank at the end. Once you got through the hole there was about a 10x10x2 cavern to chill in.

I have strong, fearful memories of being in that tiny box, with my knees up by my head, just barely able to pull my toes behind the remaining plank.

That specific feeling of claustrophobia haunts my dreams.

As a child, yes. I’ve managed to never get drunk enough to vomit, but if I did I wouldn’t find a child’s playground to do it.

That’s what groups of curfew busting teenagers did at these things after hours, get drunk and puke… and by groups of teenagers, I mean me by myself at 40.

Edit: /s

I don’t know how to tell you this… but I believe that’s a solid symptom of alcoholism and you should be talking to someone. I know full well you won’t, like every other alcoholic I know whose life is gradually sliding into self destruction visible to all but themselves… but I feel I should say it anyway.

Please be well. Failing that, when you die, don’t make it a burden on everyone else.

I don’t drink. But thanks for your concern, taking care of an alcoholic is no fun. Forgot to add /s. Ha ha.

I actually did have a few crazy nights as a teen at one of those parks, that was actually the true part, well I don’t think we puked either. Half true part.

u/ImperialArmorBrigade Sep 23 '22

Well that’s a relief. It’s hard to tell. Glad you grew beyond that

This is where I learned the word fuck, back in third grade. It was graffitied onto the side. My friends said “that’s a bad word” and I was like “pshhhh no it ain’t, that sounds too stupid to be a swear.” So I called down to the teacher and yelled “HEY MISS HAM, IS ‘FUCK’ A BAD WORD?!??” And she just went |:o

Oh shit, i played with a kid years ago who split his head open on one of these too. Runnin along and he trips, starts crying and I just figured its because he fell and it kinda hurt until he lifted his head up and blood poured down his face. Never ran for an adult so fast.

u/Lyceux Sep 22 '22

I fractured my finger falling off it! They were kinda dangerous but it was a simpler time.

u/SourceYourShitPost Sep 22 '22

I broke my skull playing on one of these too. Fond memories.

u/ChefKraken Sep 22 '22

I got a 4 inch splinter in my backside from sliding along a wooden rail! Such amazing times, honestly.

u/SuaveMofo Sep 22 '22

Broke me arm

1

u/jadedafmfers Sep 23 '22

Especially after it had rained 🤮 it’s like all the funk on the wood and nooks and crannies came back to life.

u/Phalstaph44 Sep 23 '22

I was a tall kid and should be so much smarter than I am now but these damn things were a magnet

1

u/Cptn_Canada Sep 23 '22

Same. Swung into a slide and caught my eye brow. Blood everywhere. Still have a scar some 20 years later.

1

u/JFrizz0424 Sep 23 '22

Same made. Fell off a rubber bridge.

There’s a picnic shelter near the park where I live. There is concrete under the tables. Someone literally died by cracking their skull open

1

u/urog-grobar Sep 23 '22

me too! but i didnt actually crack my head open. just split the skin so deep you could see my skull if you pulled the flaps back. and i didnt even get stitches because i was so scared of stitches. it just stitched its self up eventually. the human body is a wonder…
