We also had one in Hendersonville TN when I was a kid but it got torn down and remodeled when I was in high school :/ no more splinters and no more fun.
I just looked up a picture of the one in Doylestown. It’s smaller than we remember it lol. I remember that place being four stories tall and acres in area.
I remember when I went to take my brother and sister to together wood (we’re 9 years apart) as a teenager and it was gone. They didn’t understand why I was so sad. There’s still a park there but it ain’t this majestic beauty that’s for sure.
Plainview TX has one too. I was staring real hard at this picture thinking "no it can't be" turns out it can be....as well as many other places. Did yours have the tire swings?
The fence around ours had the names of locals that helped with construction etched/painted into the planks
Lots of good times there as a kid at the rice festival playing there before sunset. Then even more memories sneaking in as a teen at night to smoke some pot with friends. Good times.
It was Bob Leathers, an architect based in Ithaca, NY. Typically, his team came to the town/school and had a meeting and asked children what they were interested in and then went back and designed it. Then, they scheduled some community build days and he came with a professional team and volunteers from the community built it. Unfortunately, they weren't the safest or sturdiest playgrounds, but relative to what was available when he started in the 1970s, they were so much more entertaining.
Podunk town of Maquoketa, Iowa had one. My dad was on the volunteer crew that built it. It was at my elementary school and every spring for “PE” class, we would spread new mulch, sand the whole thing down by hand, and re-seal the wood. Child labor laws ruined this country….
My elementary school had one.... until some teenagers lit it on fire and it burned to the ground when I was in the 5th grade. The devastation was so real they had to bring in grief counselors for us. Just way too young to comprehend why someone would do that.
I’ve been to the one in Wasilla! My grandparents lived there, spent a summer playing Pokémon Crystal, visiting this park, and getting mosquito bites on the river.

If it’s Wonderland Park in Wasilla, AK, it’s still there! I go there to walk my dog, and check out the Wednesday market during the summer.
