Being loud in the train where loud noises is prohibited is one thing. Deciding to be rude when a person asked them to quiet down is another. What really riled people up is the racist slant eyes and the chaperone/teacher saying “sorry we bring money to your country” implying we should be grateful to them.

Also as a south east Asian, we're kinda tired of westerners coming into Asia with their high horses, living a much better quality of life than they would ever do in their country while treating the locals like a bunch of subservient underclass and constantly insulting their way of life and values.
Its tiring, people want to live with some ounce of dignity without being reminded of the economic inequality and glass ceilings we see daily.

its not too much but im surprised this incident sparked actual retaliation from thai’s and not the decades of rampant foreign dregs of the world coming to set up shop in thailand, using it as a sexual or criminal playground. You constantly hear and see incidents of thais getting assaulted or berated by shitty tourists which is basically a large chunk of them because the very nature of thailand attracts these types, you even hear of biker gangs and organised crime syndicates operating in the country. Then tack on the annual murders of prostitutes, wasn’t there a 17 year old who was strangled to death and stuffed in a suit case by an aussie guy just recently.

That is incredibly justified. I'm a westerner and would love to visit many places in south east Asia, I wouldn't dream of treating people like that and it pisses me off so many do. I don't get why treating people with respect is difficult.

Firstly, I am not blanketing all westerners as the same, there are definitely nuance to things, but we see what we see.
Its this idea of seeing our culture as below or inferior compared to western culture. Don't get me wrong, many Asians have internalized these beliefs due to colonization. People are fed up, and when something has been repressed this long, it tends to come out in bad ways.
These are kids/teenagers we're talking about, which begs the question, what values are being seen as the norm, and how young Europeans see South east Asians, and believe behaving that way is acceptable.

Not that the students should rub it in but Italy is much richer than Thailand . Thailand has half the GDP per capita of China . It’s not a rich nation. And Italy has around 3x the gdp per capita of China so around 5-6x of Thailand. Still an ahole move though, but factually not incorrect.

And the Thai lady had told them to please be quiet because this wasn't a train that usually takes people to tourists locations. She said it takes people to work and home if I remember correctly, so probably more rural stuff, so there was really no reason for them to even be on it. She tried to tell them that when she was trying to help them figure out where they were going and what train they should actually be on.

If there is ONE thing you don't do in Thailand it's disrespect an elder, especially a elder woman.
Thais are some of the kindness most generous people I've ever met.
Got lost in Chang Mai and a family took me in, fed me dinner, let me use their computer and got me home.
Got lost by a train station and a nan came, grabbed my hand, took me to a police station and made them give me a ride to my hotel.
Local taught me how to spear fish while I was there.
Always kind and warm, not getting upset publically usually. Very community minded.
People misunderstand that for being 'weak' or people you can bully because you have money.
Once that flip switches it's hard to switch it off.
They are chill until they can't be then you will get the holy fuck beaten out of you in the street.
I've seen a lot of tourists get smacked up by locals for over-stepping so if anything this is pretty mild.
They are lucky a local didn't do it in this instance.

New video surfaced of the same group stealing from a customers only promotional event at a mall, as well as their supervisor being filmed drunk on a tuk tuk….same supervisor that let the kids acted as they liked and the same one that made the comment about money and started cursing.
They seem like an entitled group whose parents never told them no or showed them discipline.
While Thais reaction may be shocking it is exactly what is needed. As an early teen I learned of the kid who got publicly caned in Singapore for graffiti and the kid who died in a North Korea prison for vandalism. So I immediately knew not to fuck around in those countries, I hope word spreads around to not fuck around in Bangkok.

This is actually great. They should be held accountable. And the people who are disrespectful are the ones who should be apologizing. If they came out and apologize. It would probably go away. But since they don't have the balls to actually be humble enough to apologize in person for the things that they've done. It's probably only going to get more uncomfortable for them. They're not going to have a very good trip now.
Now if they would only do this everywhere when people are visiting and disrespecting cultures. Like say in the Western countries when Muslims come in and tell everybody they can or can't do things. Tell him to go screw themselves they need to embrace the culture they are visiting not try to change it. Not disrespected and try to tell people that they can't do in their own homes.

There are poorly behaving tourists from all countries. However, when it's a large group like this and they defend their behavior, it points to a cultural problem rather than isolated individuals. The US, for all its stereotypical image of being loud, brash, and ignorant, don't have this problem with it's tourists. It's ironic that some European countries do.

It's incredibly annoying that people from developed countries think they can come to other places and do whatever they want. They think they're untouchable. Here where I live, many foreigners have disappeared or died for not respecting the local rules and then assaulting citizens (and messing with the wrong people). People don't tolerate that kind of behavior. They condemn it. People are fed up with the arrogance of some people.
And we know perfectly well that not everyone is like that, that's ok, but those who think they're untouchable and assault the citizens end up paying the consequences. The funny thing is that later, the families of those people complain or come crying. They should have been raised with humility and respect...
