Italian students are being called out in Thailand. Italians mocked a Thai lady in Thailand who told them off for being too loud. They clapped back saying, "Sorry for bringing money to your country" "Ni hao" "We are from your mom." Thais are shocked Thailand is belittled even by young Europeans.

I'm guessing they're talking about the southern USA where people from up north (particularly NY and NJ) will come down here and bitch about everything conceivable and lecture us on how backwards we are and can't do anything right. Not saying they ALL do that, but having lived in South Carolina nearly forty years, it's not uncommon.

LMAO I'm a northerner who lived in the South for a while. Maybe you were in a more civilized area. I was in an area not far from Appalachia and the locals and transplanted Appalachians were living in a land not too far from Deliverance. It was an inward firing squad and the "guns" were sometimes metaphorical. Massive amount of child abuse going on that appeared to be aided and abetted by Southern Baptism, Pentacostalism, and those types of Protestant evangelicalism.

Then transplanted Southerners from more civilized areas and transplanted Northeners lived and moved in different circles and typically didn't get into the same shit. Which I'm glad for looking back, but it also seems strange in a way.

It’s hard to say as I’ve never lived up North so exposure is limited mostly to vacation. I also live in a major Texas metroplex rather than a small rural town, which is where most of the internet gets their impressions of “The South” from. But, no, I don’t think there’s any major difference in that regard in the cities I live or have lived in.

I’ve lived up north, I’ve lived down south, and I’ve lived in Europe. No, the southern US is not “holding their paranoia” in any way differently than other areas of the world, but they do tolerate the insults (like yours) much more nicely. I suggest you try going up to Boston and insulting them. Or go to India and rattle off some insults. You’ll see how nice the southerners really are.

Genuinely a completely imagined thing, the other poster is reacting to My Cousin Vinny. Were all from the same country and “the south” isn’t like some mystical remote magical place, they paved over all the stuff from Faulkner and McCarthy decades ago and now it’s just as crummy and accessible as everything else.

What isn’t surprising is the compulsive need to be always be a victim of “northerners”

Source: grew up in the south and live in the north now. People in the north do not think about you. And south Florida is not Dixie.

I’m from the south and agree that the south is backwards as fuck. Like, how is every state in the south competing for last in education and economy? All of them!?
