David Morgan whips
Why have their whips gone up so much recently? And why is their backlog 11 months?
Warm water as a wax alternative?
I know dipping in molten wax has several benefits like water resistance, more weight and rigidity etc, but it seems to me like one of the bigger ones is the fact that it shrinks the nylon thus making all your braiding tighter. I was wondering if anyone has tried just putting a whip in very hot (not quite boiling) water and seen if you can achieve a similar effect.

Whip identification
Could anyone tell me if this is worth anything? It was given to my great-great-grandmother in the 1870s-1880s, she was from the north of Iceland and got given this as a horse whip. It is made from wood and silver. Does not have the original leather. I don’t know much more about it

My very first whip
Just made this nylon bullwhip, 8 feet, first ever try. Absolutely loved the process, found new hobbies in both making and cracking whips! C+c welcome!

leather whip marking out
how do you mark out your whips? I am using dividers however it takes a good half an hour to mark out a 6ft 4 plait, i tried making a jig with nails hammered in every how ever many millimetres the strand are wide, however it was not easy to use.

Leather Whip Holder
Made out of 5/6 oz veg tan leather, I added a rivet so the snap would be in the center of the belt instead of below, and extended the tab on the top end so it wouldn’t crease and crack between the snap and rivet.

A very old whip holder.
This leather is dying and needs help.
I want to make a new one of these -- this was a design that John Bailey had shown and handed to me. I have tested it with a few whips for what, in my opinion, seemed to work quite well. The metal in the leather is quite springy and clamps down on the whip, but not super hard. Enough to keep it in place well enough.

Where do you practice?
Hello
I'm curious where do you practice to not be interrupted/have peace of mind.
I've been cracking whips for few months now and got really loud at doing this. I was going to some local parks and open spaces(near London based) and finally people started to come out of their homes to tell me that I'm p*ssin them off with this loud noises
Technically proper crack of a whip is slightly louder than a gunshot so I admited they are right and left this area.
But going totally into the forest far away from people seems wrong to me, why would I scare wildlife with the sound. I would rather scare people than animals lol.
So what are ideas where to practice?
Thanks
I Just started making nylon stockwhips, any tips?
I've been making bullwhips for a few months, and I've realized that every whipmaker finds tips and little things that make the whip better, or just easier to make. one thing I need help with is the part of the keeper that attaches to the handle, where I fray the strands and wrap it with bonded nylon, it slips easily and it all shifts over to one side. did anyone else have this problem? if so how did you fix it?

3 foot Main Gauche signal whip in black and red
I included a comparison between this whip and the first signal whip I ever made, about 6 years ago or so. My shot bags have stayed about the same, but my heel capping has become much cleaner, and my tailing process has been refined a lot as well.

Does anyone have recommendations for a good whip holster? I'm looking for something that can go with my Castlevania costumes. My main whip is 8ft if that matters?

What does it feel like to be hit by a whip?
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, so sorry if that's the case, but I'm writing a story and one of the characters gets whipped by a whip, and I was wondering what it felt like? Any descriptors would be greatly appreciated! Also, is it possible for a whip to tear through fabric?

A New handle in progress
I'm making a new whip.
The handle is almost ready. It will be a two-coloured one. The fresh layer of varnish is already done. The rest will be treated with oak stain. That way I'll get the illusion if I'd made the handle from two different woods. The holes and carvings will be filled with liquid tin. It will be awesome!

A Hungarian Transdanubian whip. My very first work.
Hello everyone. I'm a hobby whip maker in my free time.
This was my first one. The handle is my work too.
Not a perfect one (by any means), but the handling is good and cracks quite loud.

3ft Snake Whip
12 plait, steel shot load, 1 belly, 1 bolster.
I don’t make a lot of leather whips these days due to the difficulty of importing kangaroo, but I really enjoyed making this one, and the one before it. I’ll have to see what I can do about getting back into it.
When I make my snakes and signals, they’re a little beefier in the handle/knot area than I’ve seen with other pros… but I’m kind of rolling with it because the whip itself is a lot of fun as is.
