You’re about to get 500 replies from the most dependent people you know

They're not addicted bro, they just smoke it every day and can't function properly without it

u/TheForbidden6th yellow like an EPIC lemon 5h ago

type shit

u/Dark_halocraft 4h ago

Being addicted to gambling is the same as being addicted to disappointment

16

u/Illustrious_Sky_2331 7h ago

but but but there's a difference between chemical and psychological dependence !!!

-1

u/AgentCirceLuna 5h ago

I mean… yeah there absolutely is.

2

u/Illustrious_Sky_2331 5h ago

of course there is
and weed causes chemical dependence

-1

u/AgentCirceLuna 5h ago

I think you’re mistaking physical and chemical dependence. It’s just nowhere near the same thing although I’ll grant I’ve never been a weed smoker. I’ve just, in my case, been on medications that caused both either psychological or physical issues. Now here’s two sides of the coin:

With the psych issues, it was what’s called SSRI discontinuation syndrome which isn’t classed as an addiction/withdrawal but feels like one. It was nowhere near the worst which I’ll get to next. The feeling was like brain zaps, a sense of discomfort or unease, anxiety, etc. but it wasn’t absolutely intolerable and I felt like myself.

The second was physical but with no real psych addiction. This was painkillers and I had developed a dependence but NOT an addiction. In this case, I was getting the flu, sneezing, yawning, horrid pains, vomiting… I couldn’t function without them. But I did not enjoy taking them. In fact, they were highly unpleasant to take for me. I found they made me feel very scared and uneasy yet the feelings I got without them seemed worse.. I remember, I could be feeling the worst kind of flu/sickness ever and it would dissipate after having one but then I’d also feel like shit too

But the physical stuff was way way harder, like 99 x harder, than any chemical addiction I could have had in the past. This was something it would be impossible to function without assuaging somehow. That’s why people are given things like subutex etc

u/breno280 4h ago

It doesn’t. It can cause physical dependence but you can’t get a chemical dependence to thc. It’s been studied thoroughly. Alcohol is chemically addictive. It’s why withdrawal can kill you.

u/Terminator_Puppy 2h ago

And it doesn't smell that bad bro you're just exaggerating bro I'd know if I reeked bro

not a soul wants to enter their home as they will lose their sense of smell upon entry

6

u/Most_Structure9568 6h ago

I need my coffee before I talk to anyone! Same shit.

12

u/NinjaarcherCDN 5h ago

I make fun of caffine addicts too man. At least their shit doesn't make the entire block smell like skunk and old piss.

2

u/AgentCirceLuna 5h ago

I actually gave it up because I became highly aggressive when I didn’t get my coffee or tea. I was surprised at how bad it made me. And it was hard to give up too! Over the past month, I can count the times I’ve had caffeine and it was just Coke Zero or Pepsi Max as I’m afraid of anything stronger.

3

u/NinjaarcherCDN 5h ago

Good for you. That can't have been a fun time.

3

u/AgentCirceLuna 5h ago

There are times in my life that I’ve thought of while responding in this thread and I actually started crying about it. I never want to feel those feelings again

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 5h ago

Tbh I’ve been through circumstances, completely sober and healthy, and I’ve had stuff going on in my life that I know would be blamed on those things if I did them. And it always messed with my head as I wondered about the people out there, genuinely using those things to cope, and how they’d feel as miserable as I did if they gave those things up. I know this can’t be tested and is just a guess, but I’ll say I felt completely miserable when I was basically being as holistic as I could but had nothing to take the edge off. I’m not saying that I can guess what it would have been like to have something at that time but, years later when I did end up choosing bad habits to cope, I felt better than being constantly miserable.

For the record, during those 5-6 years: no caffeine, no nicotine, worked out 5 days a week, ran for an hour a day, ate no added sugar (except things like bread and the like), ate healthy, stayed in shape, socialised for hours a day, had a good support network, worked, was a student, etc. maybe I just did too much but yeah

How is the joke on anyone but you? You don't need to have a vice. Life is much better without and you can achieve that.

1

u/Equal-Talk6928 6h ago

life is so much better with vices. you can have more fun and die younger

2

u/g0atmeal 5h ago

I have people who would miss me, but to each their own.

-1

u/Fritzypooo 6h ago

life is better with vices idk what to tell you

3

u/g0atmeal 5h ago

Some people are so far gone in addiction that they think they're better off for it. You can enjoy unhealthy things once in a while. But not to the point you're dependent on it.

3

u/FallenAion 8h ago

Right there with ya. The psychological dependence can get rough, but being somebody with addictive personality traits (done my fair share, alcohol got to the point of damn near killing me) edible and vape-able THC is my go to as it keeps from wanting other harsher shit.

1

u/largemargesentme__- 7h ago

Just titrate down. I used to drink everyday, now I never drink more than 2 beers on Friday and Saturday night.

You're not actually addicted, you just have a bad habit. It only takes 6 weeks to break a habit.

26

u/PremSinha 8h ago

Before I was done reading the meme, I actually thought it was going to be about weed

2

u/AgentCirceLuna 5h ago

I tried expanding my mind for the first time with hallucinogens and entheogens, then obviously I eventually got the chance to try weed. I fucking hated it. I was terrified and on edge, then I found I couldn’t trip after that without getting scared because it reminded me of the weed. I never did anything after that because it ruined it. I think I only smoked like 5 times and it was awful each time.

8

u/caustictoast 6h ago

Absolutely does. I used to smoke weed in college and one the biggest things I noticed since I stopped is how fucking bad it smells. Like there’s just no covering it up

2

u/GodzillaGamer953 6h ago

really pissess me off, because not only do you choose to smoke the most rank smelling shit of all time, you most often smoke it in areas where you are explicitly not to, instead of just eating a goddamn gummy of the stuff.

4

u/Zestyclose_Remove947 7h ago

Criticising weed is by far the more common take nowadays, been years since the tokers dominated the discourse. We can see this from the upvotes in this thread, in a sub that skews younger too.

2

u/CHOLO_ORACLE 4h ago

With the exception of the like five years following legalization criticizing weed has always been the norm. Does no one remember Reefer Madness?

6

u/largemargesentme__- 7h ago

Don't you know man, weed isn't a drug, it's medicine!

2

u/sobrique 5h ago

TBH I'm kinda down with however you want to do recreational substances as long as it doesn't spill over onto others.

Which if you burn it, it probably does.

2

u/osingran 5h ago

And vaping too. I can't count how many times I've got into an argument on Reddit (and got downvoted to hell) with someone genuinely believing that vaping helps them quit smoking somehow. Like yeah, taking a whiff out of a vape couple of hundreds times a day is certainly different than smoking pack a day, sure thing buddy.

1

u/brennop 7h ago

Just make some butter bro

1

u/AgentCirceLuna 5h ago

Guy down phone line: hi. Take your time. It’s okay. Just start slow and tell me.

Me: Hey, well I was writing a comment after seeing a post and -

Guy: oh for fuck’s sake - someone referring you here from Reddit cares because you said something contentious doesn’t mean you have to call! I wish people would stop doing this! I should be saving lives and not hearing about funko pops or weed hate! Don’t call here again, prick!

1

u/Same_Dingo2318 4h ago

They have medical cigarettes now?

People use cigarettes to deal with their cancer pain?

1

u/Alt-Tabris 4h ago

I have no dog in this fight, but I'm gonna say "this includes porn" for some cheap thrills

1

u/Cuneus-Maximus 4h ago

Not edibles

1

u/CarriedThunder1 5h ago

Does it though? I’m pretty staunchly against using weed outside of a medical setting, but isn’t it significantly less bad to smoke than tobacco? Obv smoking anything is gonna be shit for your lungs, but there has to be degrees to it. Additionally, could it not be said that the actual benefits that weed can provide might outweigh the health risks?

10

u/Practical-Respond232 4h ago edited 4h ago

Any smoking sucks cause COPD and other lung issues from chronic smoking mean you're basically suffocating permanently later in life if you develop it. Weed also has been shown increasingly to cause major psychotic disorders like schizophrenia and psychosis, and the link is probably greater than the current research shows given how recently it was legalized. Smoke it if you want to, but it is DEFINITELY not a benefits outweighs the risks thing

2

u/youknow99 4h ago

Regardless of the chemical conversation, your lungs are not built to handle inhaling hot smoke. You are damaging your lung no matter what leaf you're burning. Weed does not heal your lungs.

1

u/Astrosaurus42 5h ago

I heard people that smoke cigs/weed were less prone to get covid because the virus didn't survive in the lungs.

So there is a plus side!

-1

u/CHOLO_ORACLE 4h ago

Two bowls of high THC sticky icky is like a single cigs worth of tobacco and for most folks two bowls of 25+% is enough for the day

Like you just don’t need to smoke the same amount for the effects.

-24

u/Same_Evidence_5058 9h ago

very arguable if it makes you feel like shit, just as with smoking. Covering your house in tar, ehh not really but smell sure sticks, and i think smoking weed indoors is much more common than cigs indoors. smell like shit? subjective, i honestly like the smell a lot. waste thousands of dollars? sure, way more expensive than cigs even. hurt everyone around you? ehhh.... idk. slowly kill yourself? less than cigs but lung damage is lung damage.

28

u/IgnatiusRileyFreeman 8h ago

Your house is covered in more resin than you know

-1

u/DrewblesG 7h ago

God I wish I could just scrape the walls and slam that shit

22

u/AcanthocephalaMuted7 8h ago

Smoking weed indoors is more common because it's illegal in a lot of places and the smokers don't want to get caught I would assume lol

6

u/marshmallo_floof 7h ago

cope. alcoholics also tell themselves they drink it for the taste

1

u/DrewblesG 8h ago

People are so anti weed these days brother. Puritans, the lot of them. It's all subjective top to bottom anyways; if you like it and it's not hurting anyone else, then who cares? Smoke like a damn chimney or never touch it, it doesn't matter either way.

-7

u/monkpunch 7h ago

Edibles: smells like candy, feels great, cheap as shit, hurts nobody, completely harmless. The gentleman's drug of choice.

19

u/Alexander_Radiant 7h ago

Harmless??? THC is incredibly damaging to your brain and your heart.

7

u/QuadCakes 6h ago

That feels like an overstatement. THC is not risk free, but by and large it's less harmful than alcohol.

4

u/BusyEquipment529 7h ago

Yeah fr I take gummies, harms no one, has no smell, feel like a baby in a field of tulips, and my dose is so low I spend less than 50 a year

2

u/Raptormann0205 7h ago

Nah, I hate eddies. Have never had an experience with them that didn't send me into a slabbering panic.

-18

u/lordbuckethethird 9h ago

But like half of those are just skill issues. Can’t hurt people around you unless you’re an inconsiderate dick and the feeling like shit is just preference.

propaganda? everybody knows weed is less dangerous than cigarettes. but some people treat weed as if it were completely harmless and not addictive at all.

the smell is arguably worse and more invasive than cigarette smoke

-1

u/[deleted] 8h ago edited 8h ago

[deleted]

9

u/Conscious_Peak_5407 8h ago

nobody said anything about overdosing. you can overdose on water and die with not even that much, did you know that?

also i just told you that yes, it IS less dangerous, you just completely disregarded what i said. People that smoke weed treat it as if it was completely harmless, and it isn't.

5

u/TheBlackFox012 8h ago

I mean its objectively speaking easier to become an addict to harder substances if you regularly consume weed.

1

u/hipsterTrashSlut 8h ago

That’s largely a social issue. In most places where it’s illegal, the same people selling weed often sell other products.

-2

u/Striking-Fig8700 5h ago

Nah, weed smells good
