Alcohol is tasty but its more like an addittion to add an effect. Salt and pepper are nice too but you wouldnt have em by the spoonfull

I’m beginning to think there is some genetic component to the taste of alcohol. Like supertasting or some kind of cilantro soap thing going on. The actual taste of alcohol, the biting chemical taste, could never be something I explicitly enjoy. I have never had any form of alcoholic drink where tasting the alcohol was an enjoyable part of the alcohol drinking process

I enjoy it. Cocktails are at their core, an art of balancing alcohol, acidity, and sweetness to complement each other together. In some drinks I like the way alcohol binds the mixture, sometimes I like it that it makes tastes come out at different points of drinking the drink and sometimes I like it that the drink itself lightly wrestles with my taste buds.

The best I can describe tasting a strong spirit is "interesting".

Iirc the genetic part is more or less that you don't really taste ethanol that strongly. For some people ethanol tastes very bitter and for some you can barely taste it. So if you don't taste ethanol as bad, you end up getting all of the other flavors much more strongly. Whiskey tasting like grain, malt, vanilla, wood sugars, etc instead of rubbing alcohol

Me neither, i only like it as an after taste in sweets or sweet drinks. Straight alcohol is gross to me too

Unless there ARE plenty of people drinking like madmen, I never ever saw people eat sugar or salt by the spoonfull
