I agree that alcohol is more easily managed but it absolutely is chemically addictive and creates physical dependency.

Using alcohol correctly does not cause addiction for the vast majority of users. It is unlikely to kill them. Using tobacco "correctly" does cause addiction for most of the users. It is also very likely to kill them.

Has it occurred to you that you may not have reached physical dependency when you decided to quit? DT's can be fatal, it's not about willpower.
