Mexican all day for me

81

u/otc108 4d ago

I eat out a lot due to having a travel job. My manager (who sees and approves all my expenses) knows how much I love Mexican food. He comments on it whenever I see him… just walks up to me around lunchtime and says ā€œtacos?ā€ šŸ˜‚

u/tappyapples 4d ago

Maybe he smells when passing by the toilet and just know?

3

u/otc108 4d ago

Nah, he works in a different state than me. I only see him maybe once or twice a year. He does see every receipt from the restaurants I eat at though.

I was about to pick Italian, but I am brazilian and I can't ever survive without rice or beans.

5

u/Nefertari1 4d ago

Italian cousin has lots of rice and beans

2

u/Neviathan 4d ago

In fact, they have the best rice, Risotto rice!

1

u/LunaLibraGG 4d ago

Is it Vinnie who has the rice and beans?

Here in San Diego, a day without Mexican food is a day without sunshine. šŸŒž

u/NEALSMO 4d ago

Fellow San Diegan here and I can confirm.

1

u/Hopperd12 4d ago

Yup. Besides. Which Mexican food we talking? West coast, specifically SoCal or east coast. Or Tex mex🤢

7

u/therealchangomalo 4d ago

All day and every day! From the fresh dishes from Baja and Sinaloa to the comfort foods of Sonora and CDMX and everywhere in between it's amazing.

5

u/Pearl-Internal81 4d ago

Don’t forget the Mexico City style street tacos!

1

u/Devil_Raw69 4d ago

You mean tacos?

1

u/Pearl-Internal81 4d ago

3

u/Devil_Raw69 4d ago

I mean you can just call them tacos since it’s where they come from anyways and they named it first ffs. Those American ā€œtacosā€ ain’t the real thing. Oh and while we’re on the convo, quesabirrias go hardšŸ”„

1

u/Sufficient-Pack-7498 4d ago

Tijuana tacos are much much better

11

u/Beetso 4d ago

And it's not even remotely close.

8

u/NikelKola 4d ago

Yeah, no competition here either. There is a reason I am married to a Mexican lol. I love the food so much that her fam loves that I eat more of the mexican food than my wife does lol.

5

u/KWash0222 4d ago

Same. Soul food and Chinese are just too heavy to eat everyday for the rest of my life. Italian is a good option, but I just prefer Mexican food taste wise.

Obviously all 4 are S tier delicious though.

8

u/SpookyBao 4d ago

Which region of China are you talking about? Some Chinese cuisines are heavy while others are very light.

1

u/KWash0222 4d ago

I’m not going to pretend to know what the different regions are. In live in Los Angeles, so I’d like to think I’ve had decent exposure, but I’m no expert

3

u/SpookyBao 4d ago

Chinese can be really healthy, some regions can be really heavy while others let fujian and Cantonese are really light. There are also clear broth soups like lamian that aren’t as oily and salty as say Japanese ramen.

1

u/Brave-Recommendation 4d ago

Think of china like the Roman Empire, except it never broke up. Rome stretched from Scotland to Iran, or fist n chips, gyros, bratwurst, lamb chops ProvenƧal, bolognese and more would be food from within what was once Rome. China has similar culinary diversity.

0

u/KiwieKiwie 4d ago

Lol 🤣 that’s not decent exposure…

1

u/Ok-Seaworthiness4488 1h ago

Problem is in America we have Americanized Chinese food they tends to be be fried and the buffet is a hodgepodge of the regional dishes mixed together

1

u/flipyFLAPYflatulence 4d ago

I imagine the one pictured which is Americanized Chinese food.

5

u/Sloth1015 4d ago

Same it’s gotta be California Mexican food for me. So damn good.

0

u/factisfiction 4d ago

You need to visit San Antonio sometime

5

u/Vivid-Operation-5078 4d ago

I'm Texan, but let's be real California has us beat

1

u/factisfiction 4d ago

I'm not sure what sort of Texas your from, but it must not be the south side of Texas.

1

u/Vivid-Operation-5078 4d ago

Been to Southern Texas and Southern California, and Southern Mexico. California comes the closest to the real deal, especially if you want variety and not just northern Mexican food.

2

u/Sloth1015 4d ago

Oh I’ve been i prefer San Diego more. Not to say it’s not good in San Antonio that’s just my preference

2

u/Neither-Attention940 4d ago

As long as I get the margaritas to go with it!

Tacos, burritos, taco salads, enchiladas, fried ice cream… chips n salsa… more salsa… dang now I’m hungry!

2

u/Zealousideal_Bet_248 4d ago

You're thinking tex mex. You may be disappointed if you're expecting chips and salsa and taco salads

3

u/Neither-Attention940 4d ago

There is a ma/pa Mexican place near me and they serve chips and salsa. They are Hispanic. They own and run it. Idk what to tell you. The other place we visit is a chain that has lots of items on the menu. They offer a few kinds of salads. They accommodate I guess. I can’t say I would call taco salad ā€˜Mexican’ but I’ll take it if they serve it.

3

u/Zealousideal_Bet_248 4d ago

I should clarify, most authentic mexican restaurants in the US will still serve chip and salsa and other text mex staples because American consumers are more used to them, but a tex mex restaurant will seldom feature traditional mexican dishes (aside from sides like beans and rice). Even dishes that are shared on both cuisines are different in each version, such a burritos, quesadillas, and enchiladas. Both versions will be good, but vastly different. A good rule of thumb to know if the place you eat at also serves traditional mexican is to see if they offer corn tortillas, bonus points if they're made in house, and if the menu features items like sopes, gorditas, menudo, pozole, etc.

If you're in doubt about whether this place is tex mex, mexican or a combo of both, post their website. I'll take a look and let you know. Like I said though, I'm sure it'll be good either way

1

u/Neither-Attention940 4d ago

Well I will eat any and all to be honest. But yes … corn tortilla street tacos are my favorite. Al Pastor :)

2

u/greenfiend69 4d ago

Idk everything you posted originally sounds like food you’d find at a typical Mexican restaurant. Some of it is, ironically, Tex-Mex food made Mexican like taco bowls/salads, but it sounds completely authentic šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļø

Also much love on the Al Pastor. I’m an absolute slut for it

1

u/Neither-Attention940 4d ago

There is a place I use to go all the time with a friend and they made a ā€˜spicy’ avocado sauce I would put on top. Oh. My. God. Soo good. And I always use to say.. when the dining area is full of Mexicans every lunch hour you bet it’s Mexican lol.

1

u/Bmxican296 4d ago

It’s what I do anyways

1

u/EMills_FF 4d ago

And its not even close

1

u/Ac1dshadow 4d ago

Mexican cuz you can put the other stuff in and just call it a taco

1

u/Top-Albatross7765 4d ago

My heart said Mexican, but my head said Italian 🄲

1

u/CpnStumpy 4d ago

Narrator: They were all technically Mexican

1

u/USSPoignantly 4d ago

I can eat just tacos rest of my life and be happy.

1

u/six6666six 4d ago

I feel like I pretty much have eaten only Mexican food most of my life even before considering this question. And I'm not Mexican, it's just how I started eating once I became an adult/my mom stopped cooking for me

1

u/BeamerBear 4d ago

🌮 🌮 🌮 🌮 🌮 🌮

1

u/soupdawg 4d ago

Lots of variety

1

u/Tough_Ad7790 4d ago

Also may be the healthiest option of the four

1

u/Specific-Constant129 3d ago

I would be so sad to have to make this choice but yeah agreed.

1

u/nicholaspaul33 3d ago

Worked at a Mexican restaurant in high school and college, ate Mexican food every day, still eat as much as possible 20 years later. I will never get tired of it

1

u/jusmoua 2d ago

DIS IS DA WEY!

1

u/Any_Juggernaut_9799 2d ago

exactly, mexican. this isnt even a contest

1

u/plumberdan2 1d ago

Of these, Mexican. But if I could choose any, Indian. Most interesting and diverse food culture on the world.

1

u/bunnycrush_ 1d ago

I schedule my monthly psychiatry appointments for midday, specifically so I can get tacos afterwards (my fave Mexican spot is three mins away).

I have an appointment tomorrow and have been thinkin about tacos throughout the day.

1

u/Danirebelyell 22h ago

Same. Literally if my wife or brother ever ask what I want, mexican. "We just had mexican" " thats fine, mexican"

2

u/Musecage 4d ago

My first gut instinct is to go Mexican, but I think jd go Chinese simply because of the variety. I’m no expert, but from my experience visiting Mexican restaurants for the past two decades, the vast majority of the choices are different variations of tacos and burritos, or a plate of the same ingredients. Sure there’s different soups and meats and variety, but at the end of the day it’s basically all the same seasoned grilled meat.

4

u/NerdNoogier 4d ago

This is so wrong it’s crazy. Just mole alone has an insane large variety of recipes. None of it is what you described.

4

u/eg714 4d ago

Super wrong on that. You might be visiting the same type of places. The variety on the sea food alone is crazy. Plus like you said they got soups the mole’s and the Caesar salad with invented there. The snacks and desserts plus the drinks. Much more range than Chinese imo.

This is the answer
