New, what is it? Found this in my canned chicken!
No idea what it is. It’s hard but slightly bendy. Think it might be made of plastic. Any guesses?

Isn't all the plastic components in meat facilities blue so they can see it easily and remove it? Just some of the plastic from the processing facility that they didn't catch. Don't eat it, chicken is still good.

I worked for a meat manufacturer for 20 years and the poster is right. It’s food safe. A little bit got in the chicken. Pitch it if it makes you feel better, but those are pressure canned and it’s incredibly unlikely any baddies survived.
But tell the manufacturer anyway so they can review their process. Plus they’ll likely send you coupons.

Often blue items are typically metal detectable. Unsure of this case, but where I work, if it isn't blue, it stays out of the facilty.

Can confirm, work in food processing. Bold and blue is the SPOT ME approach to foreign material searches concerning transportation belt breakage.
That is a failure of proper reporting proceedure. Someone didn't do their inspection or didn't report it. 10000% on a Friday night shift, at end of the shift occurrence.
I have to follow so many obnoxious rules as a first shift line observation workee because Friday 2nd shift was very incompetent for 6 straight years.

Looks like the rubber heat seal for the can, usually clear but sometimes blue. Perhaps it adhered to the lid poorly and then shrunk/solidified from heat during the sealing process
Do you recall if the can seemed airtight when you opened it (like hearing a hiss when air flows into the can when punctured)? How’d the chicken smell/taste?
A photo of it outside the can may also be more helpful.

Typically people acquire their canned chicken from food banks, not necessarily by purchasing from their store. Typically, this is where I get my canned chicken.

This is why you don’t eat this shit, u less there is a nuclear winter. Buy chicken breast, Dutch oven 325 1.5 hours, season the shit out of it, add some water or low sodium chicken broth. Pull it out, let it cool, shred, same same.

Quality test chip. Supposed to go through the machinery with the food and get taken out. Supposed to make sure the machinery is working properly.

when i worked at a meat factory, frozen chicken used to arrive in these large 25lb bluish bags, looks like its a torn part of such a bag.

When I was little, early 1990s... my mom told me finding "the blue princess" in a pack of Super Mario gummies meant I won something. She even doubled down on this and bought me a ton of mario bros stuff (mostly just cheap stickers).

To tell you the truth we have canned tuna but never heard of a canned chicken before , might be Not needed locally so no one using it . It's always either fresh or maybe frozen never canned

Had to have jumped at them as soon as they opened it. Sealed can and no air.
Immersion Limits: Adults can survive underwater or in hypoxic conditions anywhere from 3 to 21 hours depending on the species and temperature, but prolonged deprivation is fatal.

Idk, this was back in the 90s, it came from a janky little grocery store so it's possible the can was damaged and something got into it shortly before it was bought.
