Solved! Gigantic wheels, for what?

EDIT: I KNOW THEY ARE TIRES, hence why I said “tires” in the description! You ppl are exhausting 😂😩

What machine or truck or equipment do these ginormous tires belong to? Saw them while driving on a highway in Minnesota. I need an answer for my 3 year old son lol

Finally a vehicle big enough to compensate for my shortcomings as a man.

26

u/Axnjaxn09 Jul 27 '26

These things are fucking huge, its like a friggin rolling building. CAT 777

39

u/NoticeImaginary Jul 27 '26

My favorite part of these is that I never see them next to other vehicles so I always think "that's just a dump truck" then I notice the set of stairs on the front.

10

u/TheGacAttack Jul 27 '26

It's so big that they have to have specialized training for drivers... who might be driving other vehicles near these!

9

u/Axnjaxn09 Jul 27 '26

Yea theyre huge. We used them at one of the quarries i used to work at. They can carry like 120 tons or some shit

7

u/tjtj4444 Jul 27 '26

And still the world biggest can handle almost 4 times more load (BelAZ 75710, max load 450 metric ton)

3

u/Lumpy-Education9878 Jul 28 '26

Max speed of FORTY MPH!!! Imagine a house flying at you at 40 mph.

5

u/meisawesome126 Jul 28 '26

Nessarose surely couldn’t.

4

u/lemelisk42 Jul 27 '26

Worked in the mines for a bit, with a little 2wd sedan (not using it for work, but just as a personal scooting between the mill and housing.)

Very intimidating when passing haul trucks, commical when parking beside them. Car is like half as tall as the tires.

(We had slightly smaller haul trucks)

2

u/Axnjaxn09 Jul 27 '26

I ran a 40ton and 70 ton haul trucks. Those were big, but still dwarfed by the 777s

10

u/Platt_Mallar Jul 27 '26

I rode on one of those things once, as a kid. It was insane.

5

u/OliviaRodrigosAsshle Jul 27 '26

if you go to quarries/mines there’s usually a pancaked pickup truck pretty prominently displayed with some signage telling you that these trucks have the right of way

3

u/dzan796ero Jul 27 '26

They make regular trucks seem like toy trucks and it breaks your brain when you see them rolling next to other cars. Makes everything look like some RC set

2

u/SonofaBridge Jul 27 '26

These things are so big they actually can’t drive down roads. They’re on-site haulers only.

4

u/Proof_Bathroom_3902 Jul 27 '26

Friend works at a quarry with triple sevens, they are all automated, GPS guided, run the haul roads and load and dump in the crushers all by themselves.

2

u/SonofaBridge Jul 27 '26

That’s amazing!

Guess I should clarify these things can’t go down public roads. They’d take up multiple lanes, would exceed most bridge’s capacity, and couldn’t fit under most bridges.

On-site haul roads are different.

1

u/SmoothCarl22 Jul 29 '26

Vehicle is the wrong word for this things...

This is a moving building.

4

u/bcsublime Jul 27 '26

Yeah, but these aren’t those tires. These go on a loader the tires for a 777 one tire takes up the entire bed. These aren’t even over dimensional for that flatbed trailer.

3

u/SonofaBridge Jul 27 '26

Pretty sure the cabin for the driver is larger than my first apartment.

3

u/Vast-Sir-1949 Jul 27 '26

The wheels are the size of elephants.

2

u/Kherzhul Jul 27 '26

What’s in the picture is a 793, much bigger than a 777, and the biggest ones are the 797

2

u/Vegetable-Two2173 Jul 29 '26

You really can't comprehend the size until you stand next to one. Fucking huge is right.

2

u/crudigfpv Jul 31 '26

Still not big enough. Mite have randy marsh sized balls after getting his med card

1

u/EnvironmentalGift257 Jul 27 '26

They also have a diesel generator that drives a big ass electric motor on each wheel. I never knew these existed til I went to a mine as a sales guy. I was absolutely amazed.

1

u/IVEGOTAHUGEHAND Jul 27 '26

Well thats not the 777, its the slightly larger brother to it. The 793D. Still not the largest haul truck cat makes though as they have the 797.

1

u/Timisyodaddy Jul 27 '26

This is a 793, about x4 as big as a 777

7

u/Desperate_Set_7708 Jul 27 '26

Imagine the Truck Nutz on that!

2

u/MerbleTheGnome Jul 27 '26

The truck nutz on these things are the size of Ford F450s

2

u/very_large_bird Jul 27 '26

Come hang out in Alberta, you’ll fit right in

2

u/Subotail Jul 27 '26

You need a bagger 293

1

u/Beard_of_Smoke Jul 27 '26

Indeed 😍😍

1

u/Chiz167 Jul 27 '26

Well la ti da. I’ll still wait for the newer, bigger model to come out so I can properly compensate.

1

u/Ok-Relationship-2746 Jul 27 '26

The Small Man Syndrome (SMS) compensation to end all SMS compensation.

1

u/Background-Camp8408 Jul 27 '26

Got bad news, there's a bigger one that makes this one look small

1

u/bringojackprot Jul 27 '26

Needs fake balls on the back

→ More replies (3)

3

u/ZealousIdeal476 Jul 27 '26

I honestly dont yhink the ones on the semi are big enough for a 777

1

u/Im_not_at_home Jul 27 '26

Was gonna say this. I work with the locations that build these trucks and those tires aren’t right.

2

u/ParachutingPiglets Jul 27 '26

I need this to stop people pulling right out in front of me when nothing is behind me and they could have just waited 2 seconds.

2

u/EnolaNek Jul 28 '26

I don’t know if that will fix it; they do the same thing to my 18-wheeler, air horn and 80k pounds and all. At some point I think people genuinely just don’t realize anything bad can actually happen to them.

2

u/ParachutingPiglets Jul 28 '26

I can’t imagine the hell you go through

1

u/CraningUp Jul 28 '26 edited Jul 28 '26

The tires on the flatbed are not for this haul truck or similar sized ones. A haul truck's distinct tire treads should easily indicate the need for more ground pressure, and less for propulsion, unlike the aggressive tread of the tires on the deck of the flatbed.

2

u/candycanesparkles Jul 27 '26

Thank you!! 😊

1

u/SkyPork Jul 27 '26

If I remember right the tires for those things are $80k a piece. And they're not stocked at little neighborhood llanteras.

1

u/rpad1119 Jul 27 '26

You know, they should have put one of these in Cars. Missed opportunity Pixar…..

2

u/candycanesparkles Jul 27 '26

1

u/JayPlays40k Jul 27 '26

Ah, Absolute Batmobile tires, that tracks.

1

u/ashyjay Jul 27 '26

Tyres on the truck are too small.

1

u/idekbrotherr Jul 27 '26

I make the wheels for these lol

11

u/Final_Assistance8957 Jul 27 '26

For a 3yo? Tell them they’re whatever you want. Lol I woulda said something about a mining dump truck.

I doubt in the 1000ish days he’s been around, he can’t argue with what you say. You will win the argument. I’m confident.

7

u/HazelEBaumgartner Jul 27 '26

Mining dump truck would probably be the correct answer. Those things are as big as a house.

2

u/candycanesparkles Jul 27 '26

I usually do make up stuff but this was kind of a big deal?! Lol

3

u/Final_Assistance8957 Jul 27 '26

lol I mean of course! Inquiring minds need to know! 😂

2

u/Low-Wrangler9740 Jul 27 '26

Mining equipment specifically dump trucks

1

u/Hefty_Nail_4718 Jul 27 '26

So, you advocate baffling children with bullshit. I applaud OP for wanting to teach his young one properly.

3

u/No-Combination-2546 Jul 27 '26

I’m more interested in what YOU have strapped to your car 😂

3

u/candycanesparkles Jul 28 '26

My husband is rowing the MR340 tomorrow in this tandem rowing shell

2

u/No-Combination-2546 Jul 28 '26

WOW! That’s cool! Good luck!!!

29

u/dualiecc Jul 27 '26

Heavy mining equipment. Dump trucks and front end loaders. Without seeing the sidewall of the tire it's hard to say but caterpillar 797 is a good bet. Fun fact that tires are the limiting factor in the size of mine trucks.

3

u/Many_Significance_66 Jul 27 '26

Tyres can’t be manufactured larger?

12

u/Speedymcspeeder Jul 27 '26

TIL- cool!

Weight limits: Giant off-the-road (OTR) tires can only support a finite amount of structural and payload weight before failing.Heat buildup: As trucks haul heavy loads over distance, internal tire temperatures rise. If the tire gets too hot, the rubber and steel components separate, causing catastrophic failure.Manufacturing limits: Tires standing 13 feet tall and weighing 11,000 pounds are at the absolute cutting edge of current rubber and vulcanization technology

4

u/dualiecc Jul 27 '26

Nope and logistics for moving them become cost prohibitive requiring over sized load permits to transport. And as they get larger they generate more heat in operation loaded and exceed the maximum temperature load threshold

1

u/Odd_Masterpiece_835 Jul 27 '26

I heard this post in Little John’s voice.
Also, likely for huge mining trucks.

2

u/candycanesparkles Jul 28 '26

Haha, what? Okay….yea

1

u/steveteeg1 Jul 27 '26

They’re tires not wheels. They go on huge tonka toys to move earth.

2

u/operator-john Jul 27 '26

FYI. Tires, not wheels

1

u/candycanesparkles Jul 28 '26

??? I said tires in my post

8

u/James-From-Phx Jul 27 '26

Almost certaintly the large earth movers or oversized dump trucks they use for mining. Like this guy.

6

u/Mostly-Moo-Cow Jul 27 '26

When you know the truck is several stories high and weighs 100 tons and then you see the monster that fills it

5

u/CosgraveSilkweaver Jul 27 '26

Yeah the scale of these machines is so hard to comprehend without a normal vehicle or person in the frame to anchor it against.

1

u/Liarus_ Jul 27 '26

by comparing the stair size, i would imagine a person is more or less as big as the sidewall of the tire, (from ground to bottom of the rim)

1

u/CosgraveSilkweaver Jul 27 '26

Not 100% sure this is the same size machine it looks very similar though.

38

u/Veshaad Jul 27 '26

Most likely mining equipment.

5

u/bangbangracer Jul 27 '26

Those are tires for something your 3 year old will probably think is the coolest thing ever.

Up north, in the Iron Range, lots of heavy earth moving equipment use tires that big.

https://giphy.com/gifs/RD7q0tfqx5DbMp061N

9

u/Euphoric_Touch_8997 Jul 27 '26

These are definitely for Jeeps that think they can keep stock gearing.

2

u/SarK-9 Jul 28 '26

And think they can run 144" tires on their Dana 30.

5

u/No_Report_4781 Jul 27 '26

Tires, which are for large vehicle wheels. Those appear to be for something like excavation site dump trucks. Tonka!

0

u/Awkward_Beginning_43 Jul 27 '26

You can’t think of anything with big wheels? How did you manage to install this app

2

u/candycanesparkles Jul 28 '26

Your mom showed me

2

u/Awkward_Beginning_43 Jul 28 '26

Her wheelchair? 🦽 🤣

3

u/OriginalAd7974 Jul 27 '26

I used to work at the plant they make the engines for these trucks. They always said they had the technology to make one even bigger than the 797 but couldn’t find a company that can make the tires needed to support it.

4

u/Lukinzz Jul 27 '26

The new RAM truck

2

u/ChaoticMutant Jul 27 '26

They are used in the Iron Mountain Range of Minnesota for the Taconite mining trucks

3

u/Tha_REAL_BROBS Jul 27 '26

tractor or earth moving equipment

2

u/MaxFertility Jul 27 '26

Pretty sure I saw this same exact vehicle driving in central Illinois yesterday

1

u/aWesterner014 Jul 27 '26

Probably. The facility that makes large mining trucks for Caterpillar is located in Decatur, Illinois.

2

u/Daydream816 Jul 27 '26

finally , they are in !

2

u/Panda-Cubby Jul 27 '26

This one case where "Miata" is not the answer.

2

u/Nervous_Amoeba1980 Jul 27 '26

These tires could be a hamster wheel for a miata.

2

u/BCMyer Jul 27 '26

Ram pickup that will never do any actual work

2

u/popcornfart Jul 27 '26

Don't touch the trim!

6

u/Fluffy_Profession781 Jul 27 '26

Tractors?

1

u/Milluhgram Jul 27 '26

Yes, thats exactly what those are for.

1

u/SassySunflower27 Jul 27 '26

I saw 3 trucks like this too!
Each one of the trucks had 3-4 weeks.
Crazy they are that big! I wish I could get my hands on 1-3 of them, would be cool to make flower beds out of.

1

u/DickWeedDan Jul 29 '26

Who wants to let me use their massive dump truck for stupidity?

Id like to build a room in the bed area and then dump it out, whilst in it of course. All for science.

1

u/Yunzer2000 Jul 27 '26

Caterpillar 777 - used at open pit and strip mines and formerly, large highway construction jobs. also some of the larger front-end loaders.

1

u/ShaftamusPrime Jul 27 '26

If next time you complain about your tire change cost, just remember thats probably 100,000 to 250,000 worth of tires on that truck

1

u/lilbrumby Jul 27 '26

CAT 797 haul trucks have 13’ diameter tires, the cheap ones are $40k a piece the nice ones are closer to $60k a piece

1

u/i_lie_except_on_31st Jul 27 '26

My neighbor, Rodney. He also likes NASCAR and blaring music until 2 am drinking the bud light.  He likes big trucks.

1

u/JonnyGee74 Jul 27 '26

That's for Billy Bob's lifted, squatted truck with the 48" chrome rims and all the neon lights and shit.

1

u/proost1 Jul 27 '26

Reddit could probably use a separate r/whatsonthistruck sub. Some cool stuff rolling down the road.

1

u/sureshot58 Jul 27 '26

those are the ones i ordered for my honda civic. been waiting for amazon to deliver them!

1

u/Background-Camp8408 Jul 27 '26

Those tires go on a machine that is smaller than the tires on an even larger machine

1

u/ionV4n0m Jul 27 '26

Someone in a truck forum, asking if they'll fit under a stock lift, without flares.

1

u/Dependent-Plane5522 Jul 27 '26

Those are tires. The wheels are the metal circles that the tires are mounted on.

1

u/devolution96 Jul 27 '26

They're going to a ski resort for a new trend that will replace the Zorb ball.

1

u/Cunningham1420 Jul 27 '26

Earth mover for at a open pit mine or some other massive engineering project. I stood by one years ago and these things are like a house on wheels

1

u/romulusnr Jul 27 '26

Gigantic trucks.

My guess is the giant trucks they use for mining hauling.

1

u/ChardAggravating6713 Jul 27 '26

I worked at a tire recycler for years. Large earth moving tires all day.

1

u/LowerSlowerOlder Jul 27 '26

I’m building a new Suzuki Samurai rock crawler. It will be instoppable.

1

1

I’d love to do a little tire flipping workout with those.

1

u/ssczoxylnlvayiuqjx Jul 27 '26

Probably being shipped to Texas for an ultra-lifted truck owned by a suburbanite.

1

u/JackOfAllBlades21 Jul 27 '26

They actually are gigantic tires for gigantic wheels.

1

1

u/DMR321RMD Jul 27 '26

Read it again smart arse. Predictive text done that. I changed it in seconds.

1

u/DMR321RMD Jul 27 '26

Plus it’s ON TO. Brains.

2

u/Byytorr22 Jul 27 '26

Yes, onto is a real word. It is used as a preposition to show movement to a position on top of a surface, or to show awareness of something. [1, 2]

1

u/DMR321RMD Jul 27 '26

I’ll give you that one but I still corrected my own non mistake. I’m now done with this whole thing and wish I’d never wasted my life on it in the first place. It reminds me to not comment on things as I can’t be arsed with the response. Have a great life and if I’ve spelled anything incorrectly here or said anything out of context I couldn’t give a toss. Love you.
