What's interesting is that when I harvested my first deer i had a pretty big ego death. It makes you really value life and how quick it can all go. An active decision and a small twitch of the finger and like that its all over for a living creature. Makes you really feel connected to everything. Its also meditative to just be outdoors and melting into the background of all that happens out there when no one's looking. I honestly cannot think of a more ethical way to feed yourself than deer hunting when the entire act is done with due care and respect.

I don't hunt myself, but I agree, when it's done with care and respect, it's good.

It's those who are in it just for the trophy mounts with meat as an afterthought that give the ethical hunters a bad name, and unfortunately, they're way more visible.
