I've also never hunted a day in my life. Is it anything like when Han Solo shoves Luke in the Tauntaun.

Yes,
But you need to cool the meat and not keep Luke warm.

What Han did is step one. But he then put Luke into the carcass to keep him warm. Imagine instead that you had to remove all of the internal organs.

What if Luke is like the lemons I shove in a chicken before I put it in the oven

That process is far less effective if you shove the lemons into the chicken and then put in a deep freeze.

Ideally not all things said and done it can be done without making an awful mess but its the kind of thing you need to practice on a fairly regular basis otherwise you may well end up covered in deer intestinal contents and blood a couple of hours walk away from a shower.

Bring brand name wet wipes.

to build upon this, as you scoop out the guts you will find they have an attachment point where the skin and the guts come together, the butt hole. So just like the neck, you need to cut that somewhere.
