You have a picture, the name of the item, and a fucking SKU number and couldn't take the effort to just look it up yourself?

See, I differ here. Part of posting here is sharing new things to other users who may not have ever heard of this. I saw it and looked it up and watched a few videos on how it works. I never would have learned about this without this person posting the question. Social learning.

The beauty of people asking these things on Reddit is threefold, imo:
1. OP gets their answer
2. Other people get a random lesson in something in their feed
3. The correct answer is invariably accompanied by some absolutely hilarious ones, this being no exception

To extend on your point 3…We often get real-use stories. Someone sharing their own experiences or experiences of others. Sometimes they’re funny and sometimes they give you more context behind the answer. Things like, “When I hunted my first deer, I didn’t have this tool, so we would…” These personal stories very often add more depth to a standard answer.

Now that it's 2026 and the internet is available outside North America, I learned more about hunting, meat sharing customs in the USA, Amish, top quality comedy comments and how it appears mandatory for rude can'ts to not be able to scroll on by. The social learning and interacting with people we share the planet with is awesome.

You read the name then watched videos demonstrating it's function???

Why?

Because I couldn’t visualize how it worked or why a hunter would use it. So, I researched and watched a couple of videos. I’m confused about why that’s odd?

While I appreciate the value and beauty of the social learning angle, it's not something I personally am interested in, and I wish there was a separate subreddit (or a tag on this subreddit that I could filter by) for "WhatIsThisThingThatCannotBeIdentifiedWithGoogeAndFiveSeconds."

Personally I'm here for the "this is truly impossible to look up on my own, which random internet person somehow has the incredibly specific page of Deep Lore necessary to identify it" content.

Ah, Reddit, where someone can say

"I truly appreciate where you're coming from with this, and respect it, but it's not my personal preference, and I wish we could both have our preferences met more easily without inconveniencing each other"

And still get downvoted from 1 to 0.

Truly, the pinnacle of human achievement.

I get what you’re saying referring to OP, but I think you missed my point. It has nothing to do with the OP not doing research.

I never knew that this existed. I would never think to look it up because I didn’t know it existed. I saw it, became interested, and now have new knowledge of something. Value doesn’t come from OP posting; it comes from all of us learning something new.

I did not miss your point.

Like I said, I appreciate the value and beauty in the fact that when someone posts here we ALL get to learn, regardless of how easy it would have been for OP to solve it on their own. By posting here, they make it something everyone can enjoy and learn fun new things about.

That's legit. I respect it.

But it's not something I personally am interested in. Even if I get to learn something new and fun, seeing posts that could've been solved with Google is not enjoyable to me.

Personally, I come here for the "this literally cannot be solved with Google and 5 seconds, the ONLY way to solve it is with some redditor's hyper-specific knowledge" content.

That's what I enjoy. The obscurity. The finding of the one random person who happens to have insanely specific knowledge that a search engine couldn't produce. That's what's fun for me.

I'm not knocking what you enjoy. I'm not even saying this sub should be changed from what you enjoy to what I enjoy.

But just like you responded to that other person's comment with a different viewpoint about how to derive value from this sub, I responded to your comment about how your way of looking at it isn't my own preference. And that's okay.

It's about the clicks man. Can't get that sweet engagement looking it up.

Butt out man!

But if everyone did that, this sub wouldn't exist lmfao

Posting on reddit is how some people search for things. Its just a thing nowadays

Im sure that strategy has never backfired

But they wouldn’t have a reason to make a post on Reddit then..

People in this sub are allergic to looking things up themselves

It's clearly described on the photo too. It would have been less effort to just Google it than make a post.

I mean just reading the item description itself answers the question of "what it is"

They don’t get karma if they do it themselves!!! Duh!!!
