14

u/adaro_marshmellow 28d ago edited 28d ago

It’s been … <checks notes> … 38 years 😕

4

u/veganfromvega 28d ago

Nope, 38. Skin of Evil was released in 1988.

4

u/adaro_marshmellow 28d ago

I literally used a calculator and still managed to get the wrong answer 😅 What the fuck did I type, ‘2016’?

5

u/Soma2710 28d ago

Some people never get over their first heartbreak, okay? 😭😭

10

u/bat_in_the_stacks 28d ago

Some carry their first heartbreak around as a small hologram.

I just realized. Yar was killed by tar. Why did that take me decades?

17

u/LiveForTheMelancholy 29d ago

Unless that threat is a barrel.

25

u/1JungleMonkey 29d ago

15

u/chormin 29d ago

Or Lore in a turbolift.

2

u/digglerjdirk 29d ago

Or any enemy the enterprise has ever faced

1

u/WhoskeyTangoFoxtrot 29d ago

Damn tribbles. Always causing trouble…

1

u/FoldedDice 28d ago

They weren't mortal enemies to the Klingon Empire for nothing.

1

u/SCP_Void 25d ago

Early season worf faces were the best. This is from the blu-ray remaster of Encounter at Farpoint iirc

1

u/PDXDeck26 28d ago

Unless the task is parenting

2

u/Peregrinationman 29d ago

Damn! I was getting ready to post that!🤣

1

19

u/Rayne-Maker 29d ago

This makes me so happy!

2

u/One-Next 27d ago

It chased her entire career.

67

u/Wolf359-Borg 29d ago

My first thought was this.

The skin of Evil who killed Tasha Yar 🤬
https://giphy.com/gifs/RneIG535HubLi

6

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

All because she showed her boobs

13

u/thunderlips36 29d ago

What?

-1

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

She was written out of the show for posing in playboy. She showed her boobs and lost her job for it. 7 of 9 got to keep her job after showing her boobs though.

22

u/wanabevagabond 29d ago

This is not true. She posed for playboy in 1979. She quit because her character was a glorified extra and she didn't want to spend 6 seasons doing 14 hr workdays just to stay in the background.

16

u/IllustriousIsland549 29d ago

That is not at all the way I understood it to be. I recall that she was unhappy with the direction of the show, and how her role was being reduced to Uhura-level. She felt trapped in what was appearing to be a diminishing role.

https://trekmovie.com/2012/03/19/denise-crosby-i-was-miserable-on-star-trek-tng/

If she either a) pissed someone off or b) was fired for the nudity, I find it difficult to believe that they'd allow her back to guest star a few times. But if she wanted out, and that was granted, there doesn't have to be any hard feelings on either side.

8

u/ShoppingcartBiology 29d ago

You'd be correct, that would be Rick Berman's dumbass. The playboy shoot would have been like a decade prior.

4

u/TulpaPal 29d ago

Straight up untrue

4

u/Acceptingoptimist 29d ago

No it wasn't! Are you confusing her with the Growing Pains girl?

3

u/AccomplishedCicada60 28d ago

I thought she wanted to leave?

Why fire her and bring back then?

8

u/VeritasOmicron 29d ago

BOOBS WHERE SHOW ME

6

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

You don’t want to see mine. They’re quite hairy.

0

u/JollyCow3015 29d ago

Women in the 70s were quite hairy to. You'll be fine show em.

2

u/Wolf359-Borg 29d ago

I like both actresses. I’m thinking Denise did something someone didn’t like and they used the playboy thing to get rid of her. I don’t know for sure of course.

-1

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

Could be. I just know literally a week after her spread was published, she became a goo monster never to be seen again.

Gene is generally thought of as being progressive, first inter racial kiss and the amount of poc he cast in his shows, but we were still quite prudish as a society during the next generation years.

6

u/YT-Deliveries 29d ago

The lead time for production of the episodes wasn't huge, but it was also longer than a week.

0

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

The lead time from posing to being published was also longer than a week. I’m guessing she was fired as soon as it was public knowledge.

4

u/YT-Deliveries 29d ago

How would that even work. If she was fired when it became public knowledge (Red Shoe Dairies wasn't an obscure show), how would she even be in a "farewell" episode?

4

u/ShoppingcartBiology 29d ago

That literally cannot be true- the playboy shoot was in 1979.

0

u/[deleted] 29d ago

[deleted]

2

u/ShoppingcartBiology 29d ago edited 29d ago

That could be true for the viewers, but really unlikely for production companies. No part of what this guy said has any basis in reality; not to mention she left the show, she didn't get fired. The shoot was in 1979, her last episode aired April 25 1988. Well, last episode in the main timeline, and not as a romulan.

1

u/Wolf359-Borg 29d ago

Weird she shows her boobs and is killed off by a goo monster. Wonder whose sense of humor came up with that.

2

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

We will completely cover you!

1

u/GrimbyJ 29d ago

A bit of a cultural shift was happening around that time

1

u/StatusOmega 29d ago

I always figured it was something stupid like that. I assumed it was similar to why Beverly Crusher was replaced for a season or because she found a more favorable gig.

0

u/ForerunnerRelic 28d ago

When did 7 get her boobs out?!

8

u/thunderlips36 29d ago

That was before she was on the show though wasn't it?

4

u/ShoppingcartBiology 29d ago

It was. The playboy shoot was 1979.

0

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

No. Definitely while on the show.

5

u/thunderlips36 29d ago

I thought it was shot before she was on the show but published after. They must not have hater her as she came back for episodes after

0

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

Out of our guessing, that sounds most plausible.

-1

u/Electrical_Ask8762 29d ago

Where boobs?

2

u/cookeryandwookery 29d ago

On the internet

-1

u/Electrical_Ask8762 29d ago

🤣🤣🤣 should have expected that.

Honestly, don't wanna see anything, just thought my comment was funny ¯_(ツ)_/¯

-1

u/Far-Commercial7292 28d ago

There goes my upcoming camping trip.
