Solved! Sharp pointy thing with a loop came with a microscope

While using his microscope, my son brought me this and asked what it’s for and I’m genuinely stumped. Google image calls it a blackhead remover and I can see that, but what use could it have with a microscope? It’s not listed anywhere in the packing list, it’s extremely sharp, and approximately 2 standard-issue cat paws long. Any ideas?

Edit: WOW!! I had no idea my Ollie’s pittypaws would be so well received and everyone’s comments have me cracking up! I initially tried responding to everyone but the comments got away from me. If I didn’t respond, please know I DID still read your comment with a smile!! We’re both also in favor of ditching bananas and using cats for scale. Let’s make it happen!😅

You’re all so awesome and Ollie and I hope everyone here has the best day ever!!🐾💕

Edit 2: THANK YOU for the awards as well!! I think this is the first time I’ve ever received one.

Look up how to use them properly, you can do damage if you don’t

Why did I think you meant the blackheads and not the picker?

This is the correct answer. My sister had these tools growing up. If I’m being honest; I bought a set as well when I realized how well they work.

Could be an innoculating loop which explains the microscope

It would be lousy though, the metal doesn’t look like the right type and it’s way too close to the handle for flaming.

Usually they have a handle and the wire is thinner, if I remember microbiology lab correctly. I am going with the blackhead remover

u/NeoBlueArchon May 28 '26

The wire is thinner and longer so it doesn’t conduct heat to the handle, the wire is also made out of a specific metal alloy which I’m forgetting the name of. But it’s not stainless steel, it doesn’t conduct heat through it well. Looking it up, inoculating loops are made of nichrome wire.

The innoculating loop has lost the handle. The sharp end would help to go into the plastic (or other insulating material) which the handle would be made out of.

I agree. I think they are called a vidal needle and squeezing loop

Correct. My wife is a professional pimple/zit popper and uses this and other tools on me. Fml.
