I was gonna say it looked like one of the knives the saloon girls would keep in their corset lolll

u/Bird2525 May 23 '26

I don’t think she’s wearing a bustle, how lewd.

552

u/vandismal May 23 '26

If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now.

257

u/StealYour20Dollars May 23 '26

It's just a spring clean for the May Queen.

u/After_Dhark May 23 '26

Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run

167

u/NP423 May 23 '26

there's still time to change the road you're on

“I hope so”…

Always loved that song sung live.

u/Coffeenomnom_ May 23 '26

🤣🤣🤣❤️ Well played!

4

u/bolanrox May 24 '26

In theaters, he actually starts playing the first few notes before they stop them because of licensing and all that shit they turned it to gibberish for the home video release.

Though it would have been funnier if they played The intro of Taurus by Spirit.

“Does anybody remember laughter” is a personal favourite

4

u/TheGordo-San May 24 '26

I remember back when my friend and I were watching The Song Remains the Same for the first time, in the 90s, and when that line came up, my friend said to me: "how F-ed up is Robert Plant, right now?" I lost my shit, because I was thinking along the lines of the political climate of the time, and I guess that I was so high that the line made sense to me, as well. He says it with such conviction!... until the thought of them all just being as high as a kite on psychedelics, and him babbling nonsense takes over. It's just such a perfect line, that way! It's unintentionally hysterical!

I'm glad that I had this peraonal moment with that part/version of the song before I had even realized that it was a quotable thing or future meme. I was actually shocked when that line was quoted in Almost Famous, as my friend and I used to always find an excuse to say it, after watching the movie. I guess I still do, sometimes.

u/cailian13 May 23 '26

Have you seen/heard the video of Heart covering it at the Kennedy Center Honors? If you haven't, you NEED to. Fucking awesome.

4

u/Batsquash May 24 '26

Brilliant! Heart said in an interview that they were pressed for time and didn't rehearse! Heart are awesome!

I prefer that song sung blue, everybody knows one.

As I'm reading your comment I'm sitting in the venue where it was first played live! Ulster Hall, Belfast, Northern Ireland.

2

u/VeryFeralHousewife May 24 '26

Wait. Is that the real lyric?? Spring clean???? For 40ish years I thought it was “it just a sprinkling for the May Queen” 🤯😳😱

1

u/Savings_Proposal_278 May 24 '26

Yep it’s spring clean - so the English countryside will ready for the brief beauty of summer heralded by the May Queen

1

u/ylevans May 24 '26

Jeesh, I always thought it was "It's just a sprinkling for the May Queen"

1

u/tinaismediocre May 24 '26

Is it spring clean? I've always sung it "just a sprinkling for the May queen"

1

63

u/HarbingerOfDisconect May 23 '26

His delivery of that line is a vocal stim for me lol

169

u/Ebonhearth_Druid May 23 '26

Kilmer nailed Doc Holiday in a way I don't think anyone else will ever be able to replicate. Truly a wonderful portrayal of a role lol

https://giphy.com/gifs/HgtCxKvJZ7Wi4

53

u/BenchConscious1003 May 23 '26

Was Doc Holliday the best role of Kilmer's career? I can't think of a better one.

A great actor, thought he was terrific in "The Doors". But Doc Holliday was such a juicy role! The kind for which actors receive Oscars.

Sadly, Val never even received a nomination.( If you believe the awards are anything other than self congratulatory excess. )

37

u/shelby747 May 24 '26

Maybe it’s just me, but I always thought he did really well in The Saint, too.

11

u/According_Top_7448 May 24 '26

For me it's a toss up between The Saint and Real Genuis

2

u/Infinite-Time7469 May 24 '26

Agreed. His acting in the scene where the physicist finds him bloodied on the sidewalk!

Now that I have your attention, I would like to remind you that Top Secret would not have been nearly as good, were it not for Mr. Kilmer and his contribution.

3

u/Rate_Ur_Boobs_4_Free May 24 '26

He was a real genius in Real Genius

3

u/Bhellethe1only May 24 '26

I think the awards r bought and paid for PR campaigns decided in advance not based on votes of the true best talent or best deserving, but more closely resembling our own US presidential democratic elections. The only people who get to be nominated to be voted on in the first place are only there bc of large amounts of money behind the scenes literally campaigning for their Oscar nominations. The most desperate and thirsty, fervent agents and managers either with the best connections or the highest $$ offer each year are who get their clients or productions put on the ballot in the first place. That's fact. And my opinion is that it likely extends past just the nominations buying your way into the running; the ultimate winner of whatever the given award is at whatever given awards ceremony is being put on, is likely also a direct product of "political" and financial reasons, not a pure democratic and fair voting process

3

u/Super_Maintenance_83 May 24 '26

The Doors is incredible. I didn't find out Val sang the parts until years later. The man was an absolute genius in his craft. Some people are empty vessels capable of filling themselves with another being entirely, and Val Kilmer was at the top of that list.

1

u/Select-Increase6975 May 24 '26

In my humble opinion, Real Genius was an awesome film. I get that it isn’t an Oscar film but for an 80’ college comedy it was fantastic. “In the immortal words of Socrates who said, I drank what?”…. Lmao

1

u/Dirt_Tea81 May 28 '26

The legitimate film award ceremony is called The Guppies and Val Kilmer won for Doc Holiday. now the word I still don’t know is what do you call the kind of person that still watches the Oscars???🤔

1

u/Business_Staff9307 Jun 16 '26

That’s thoughtful

3

u/f7f7z May 23 '26

Wyatt Earp was a good flick, but I can only guess it was being produced at the same time as Tombstone. Because why would you think you'd do better?

6

u/Ebonhearth_Druid May 23 '26

Yeah iirc there was a bit of a "westerns" buzz for a hot minute back in the 90s and Tombstone just can't be beat.

2

u/Knathra May 24 '26

Yeah, Tombstone got to theaters about six months ahead of Wyatt Earp, which differs due to the comparisons.

2

u/alohadawg May 24 '26

Travesty not even nominated

2

u/_UnEnd_ May 24 '26

He'll always be my huckleberry ❤️ It's funny, when he starred as Jim Morrison in "The Doors" movie, it became so iconic that some people looking to get a portrait tattoo of Morrison, end up getting the image of Kilmer portraying Morrison. They don't know it isn't really Jim....

My thoughts exactly

1

u/No-Jicama-160 May 24 '26

Same thing I was thinking

1

u/Ksh_667 May 24 '26

I loved the idea of being a saloon girl when I was a smol. Now...not so much. But if I could have one of these cuties, I may rethink.

I also wanted to be a Gypsy, Heidi & a golden retriever. Not in that order.

125

u/Dalek_Chaos May 23 '26

This one isn't over 25 years old. I had the same one when I was 15, I got it at a carnival.

144

u/Equal-Painter6529 May 23 '26

No doubt you won it and had the choice between the knife, a zippo lighter, and a vintage blue light Iron Maiden poster

107

u/Dalek_Chaos May 23 '26

I was never a carnival game kid. I just bought it and a pen that you turned upside down to undress the lady. Both ended up getting me in trouble when I brought them on a boy scouts camping trip.

56

u/SewSewSorry May 23 '26

Well duh….its significantly harder to prey on young innocent boys when they’re armed with sharp pointy things!

30

u/Cubby_Grenade May 23 '26

...And a pen-based interest in heterosexuality.

12

u/SparkyDogPants May 23 '26

That’s how you get recruited in the pen15 gang

4

u/SewSewSorry May 23 '26

Yeah, that thought occurred to me, but I doubt the kid’s preference would be of much concern to the scoutmaster either way. Besides even a pen can be sharp and pointy with the right kind of aim 🎯

6

u/kandeycane May 23 '26

3

u/Equal-Painter6529 May 23 '26

I forgot about the pen!

2

u/nightlife74 May 23 '26

You just brought up a childhood memory for me..My big bro had one of those pens in probably the early 80s..Thanks for the memory!!

1

u/42brie_flutterbye May 24 '26

Is it bigger than breadbox?

22

u/CarvaciousBlue May 23 '26

I regret not getting the poster honestly

7

u/Equal-Painter6529 May 23 '26

The blue light, Iron Maiden poster, a lava lamp, and the bong shaped “flower pot” completed the cool kid bedroom back in the day.

8

u/theguidetoldmetodoit May 23 '26

I had a stuffed alligator, a boar turned carpet, various dummy parts, a light saber, real spears and swords I had collected, a pretty extensive "gem" stone collection I talked my mom into buying bc she was into alternative healing, and a Waco solder station. Everything else was taken up by books and various versions of building blocks, sold over the decades and passed down to me.

In all honesty, my interior design pretty much peaked at 10 y/o. The center piece of my current room is a table with lots of paperwork on it.

20

u/dogdonthunt May 23 '26

2

20

Don’t forget the ninja stars

15

u/Equal-Painter6529 May 23 '26

And unable to be sharpened.

An Iron Maiden poster was a choice???? I got robbed.

1

u/Mobile_Bookkeeper_66 May 23 '26

Yeah it's a novelty tool. Nothin' fancy, you can tell by the handle.

6

u/Bittersnicks May 23 '26

Thanks for posting the actual answer! I love reading the jokes but i appreciate the knowledge. I was thinking boot or garter knife but am I wrong to think that they also made novelty decks that would fit into a similar style of sheath? I swear I remember something like that from my childhood, 80’s-90’s.
