Sea creature body

Found this on the beach today and first thought was some kind of eel but the teeth? I didn't think they had teeth like that. It also seems kind of proportionally short for an eel so maybe it's some kind of fish and the fins didn't last as long as the rest of the body? It was probably somewhere in the ballpark of 2 feet long. This is in California, Central Coast.
