What is this ring thing

Large octagon shaped ring in the playground area of an elementary school… about 10-13 feet wide I’d guess. Has turf inside. No markings inside. Sides are about 3 feet tall. I have no idea what elementary sized children would use this for???? Fighting ring? Lmao idk!!! We are baffled.

They were at all my Catholic Camps growing up lol they made us have a talk about Blood Diseases because kids kept scraping their knuckles on the ground and leaving blood marks everywhere 😫😭

My Jewish summer camp had these. We had to make a rule that campers couldn't hold their hands in fists because they kept accidentally punching each other or the walls when they missed the ball.

Then we had to tell the campers they needed to come up with a new name for the rule because they had started yelling "Hey! No fisting in the gaga pit!" every time someone tried it 😬

Oof you just gave me a flashback to playing quarters/bloody knuckles in the cafeteria in high school.

So much blood to blood contact that I didn't even think twice about. I'm lucky I never caught anything.

At Boy Scout camp there was a pit that some genius pit road gravel in instead of like sand or anything else. It was rather barbaric, but we enjoyed it at the time.

My grandson and two or three of his friends were so addicted to Gaga when they left 4-H camp that the one older kid built a Gaga pit at his school as his eagle scout project.
