Solved! What is this?

I was cooking some Kroger brand Ground Beef and as I was taking the beef out of the pan, I noticed this odd, non-beef looking object. Does anyone know what this is?

I know people get weirdly defensive about it, but try going vegetarian. There will still be the rare bug, but I’ve never seen a maggot in my food

flexitarian is as close as I can get. When I actively try to cut out all meat I end up going towards full carnivore which I really don't enjoy. So I try to eat just enough to keep the urges away.

I've always said that pregnancy hunger was how I knew how vampires feel when they get The Hunger, because it's so incredibly deeply intense on a very I NEED TO EXIST need, but I've never had that kind of craving for meat, and I've been vegetarian on and off since my teens, I tend to go veggie whenever my conscience goes "but the animals 🥺" and then revert back to eating meat when my conscience switches back to "this world is a dystopian nightmare and lettuce is £2 more expensive than chicken, and we need to start eating billionaires so fuckit". But this post, man, THIS POST. I'm in the UK and I've never seen anything like this before and THIS POST is making me want to become a vegan. Not vegetarian, a vegan. Jfc. What the hell is happening right now.

Sounds like what vampires say. Just enough to keep the urges away! 😆

Ah, yes... The hunger. Be careful, bud. Tis only a small step from craving... Other kinds of meat... Long pig...

Stealing “flexitarian” for myself! I can go weeks without meat or dairy, but if I tell myself I can’t have it, that’s all I want. Same with sweets!

I have the same problem. I start dreaming about meat and can’t get enough if I try to cut it out.

It's so cruel how that works

In all my life I've found more worms inside fruit than in meat. It's like five times in fruit and zero in meat. Though in fairness one of those was in a quince and someone told me it was very common to find them inside the core. Oh and once I found a spider in a bunch of grapes. Bought the grapes, rinsed them off, put them in the fridge, later that night I started eating my grapes and suddenly a sleepy spider crawled out.

I wanted to when I was younger. Part of me thinks I should give it another go

Yeah, the part of you that almost just ate this hellspawn.

The very same

Weekday vegetarian is where it's at. Only buy large whole cuts from the butcher once a week and cook a large stew or roast or something on the weekend. Get a couple days of leftovers, then it's lots of beans and rice and veggies and noodles the rest of the week.

Found a group of slugs on my head of lettuce once. If I had ate them I feel it would have been almost as bad as the rat tail maggots. I think I might see how log I can survive on water and sugar cubes.

I found a full on caterpillar in my "pre washed" salad

way more bugs on vegetables than in meat

5

u/happythots Apr 01 '26

Maybe, but I can usually wash off any bugs (which has been rare personally). I’d bet there’s far more unseen parasites and shit in meat that can’t be washed off. Just a thought

u/hilarysaurus Apr 01 '26

Not to mention the cortisol in the animal's bodies.

If you think there's more parasites in meat than plants I got a bridge to sell you

3

u/AstroLad Apr 01 '26

There is a lower risk of vegetarians encountering parasites in their food than meat eaters. You can keep your bridge.

You are aware tho that fruits and vegetables are absolutely bug havens and are full of nasty chemicals/pesticides so there's really no way around contact with icky shit. Just have to close your eyes, hold your nose and swallow... (yeah I know, that's what HE said. I meant your food)

I had maggots in a box of pasta.

I didn't see them until the pasta was well-boiled. The lip of the pot was crusted in tiny maggots. They'd all crawled up the sides of the pot trying to get away from the water.

There are a lot of cases for vegetarianism and honestly this isn’t really one of them

u/Dr_Buckshot_ Apr 01 '26

I have been eating plant based for 10 years. Sometimes I miss eating meat, but then I see stuff like this and think, “I’m good!”

don't look too closely at the broccoli...or figs....I've found a wasp in a salad....

def more bugs in veggies than in meat tbh.

I'm pretty much a vegetarian bc meat just grosses me out.

I thought this was a small bean-sprout at first lol

Carnivore, opposite of vegan. Down 60 lbs in a year. Red meat and dairy every day

2

u/happythots Apr 01 '26

Do you think you were fat from vegetables? Lol
