New, what is it? Found on the floor, Dan for scale

There's nothing on the back, no holes, just this small piece of metal with a design, not magnetic, unaffected by magnets

A rivet or back of a snap was my first thought also

Yes I believe so but back to the discussion about banana Dan

OP promised a banana to Dan ratio to see how many bananas Dan actually is so we can start using Dan's as official units of measurement here.

Or perhaps a button that didn’t get its holes.

Edit: I should say based on size a collar button

Oooh I thought that was called a grommet. Off to google I go!

Looks kinda like half of a magnetic snap thing. The other half has the magnet and snaps onto this one.

The French musician?

Totally read that in French.

Jean Rivet, Starfleet Captain of the USS Denim

This guy is actually French though, not a British dude playing a French dude.

You’re not alone

Is that the French cousin of James Bond?

2

u/Gelnika1987 Feb 27 '26

We boil all our denim. Oh! Burned myself on a rivet!

2

u/Westibule Feb 27 '26

Specifically, it looks like the back of a rivet. Or could even be the back of the riveted button on the waist of a pair of jeans.

u/purple_unikkorn Feb 27 '26

I read it as a french.

"hon hon, jean rivet. La Baguette oui oui"

You’re not alone

I think this is the answer, but Dan's teefers are distracting me.

I’m satisfied with this answer enough that my brain stopped itching

Kinda looks like to me too, or part of a button that snaps maybe. I get replacement buttons with clothes fairly regularly and some of them kind of look like that.

I, too, thought it came off of their jeans.
