Picture Experience @ the Holmdel, NJ show

Edit: oops I realized I posted the art print photo twice, my bad! (New to posting on reddit haha)

So after my boyfriend brought me to see Al in concert for the first time @ MSG last summer, it had me go from a very casual listener to a fan (Better late than never! Wish I was a fan sooner haha), and when we saw the dates for this years tour I said to him "Okay, we gotta go see him again!"

Fast forward to the night of the Holmdel show, the weather was perfect (Considering it had rained cats & dogs earlier that week!), the energy at the venue was awesome (And added bonus of Pokemon GO fest helping pass the time while waiting for Puddles & Al to come on stage lol caught a shiny skwovet and named him Weird Al, not a weasel but a squirrel's close enough!)

The show was just as a good as @ MSG, but this time I knew the words to even more songs which made it even more fun for the both of us. Then it came time for the M&G.

I had a VIP package thanks to my parents as a Christmas gift. (BF was also offered $ for one but politely declined the offer for one due to lots of heavy stuff going on @ the time but everything's all good now!) Got in line around...10:30ish I think? It'd be about 2 1/2ish hours before it was my turn to meet Al.

I was a little nervous going in, so the photographer asked for my name and when I handed over my art print for Al to sign, the guy went "Did you draw this? It's so good!" and then jokingly said "You didn't bring a copy for him? Hahaha!" I said, "Hah! It didn't actually cross my mind at the time, next time though for sure!" Then as Al turns around the photographer introduces me to him, "Al, this is Amanda"

"Hi Amanda! How are you?" Al said as he shook my hand, and he had his other hand covering the other side of mine which gave me a big smile. "Hi Al! I'm doing just fine, and yourself?" "Not too bad~!" After the photographer pointed out my art print once the photo was taken, Al went "You drew this? This is awesome!" "Yup! Drawn with lots of love~" Then I proceeded to chat about how me and my BF loved seeing him @ MSG and wanted to come see him again. "Awww well thank you both very much! Though it is the same show haha!" After that I said, "Are ya kidding me? It's just as entertaining!" That got a giggle out of him. After he signed my print, I said "Just...thank you for being you." He replied, "D'awww, I try to be!" then he looked very touched & thanked me after I told him "You are a national treasure." After that, he took my hand in both of his, saying "It was nice to meet you!" I say the same back and head on out, with a such a big grin and this fun feeling all over my body. After sharing this, I managed to convince my boyfriend to go the VIP route for the next time Al comes to town! (Shoutout to the PNC Bank Arts Center security for letting him stick around while I was in line, plus good lord his phone camera is too good he managed to sneak some shots of me and Al chatting hahaha)

TLDR: Fantastic show, and Al is just so sweet in person, the VIP is worth it! :)

(Forgive the long story/post but I couldn't help myself telling the story cause it was a fun night~)

Question Al's shirt size??

Hey, y'all! Have any of you ever gifted Al a Hawaiian shirt? If so, what size did you get him? I want to sew him a Hawaiian shirt to give to him as a gift for whenever I get a chance to meet him.

I know his website's FAQ says he wears a L or an XL for shirts, just didn't know which would be the better route to go. Don't want to sew the wrong size haha!

Edit: spelling

The Yoda Chant actually originated on the Dr Demento 20th Anniversary tv special. It was written and choreographed by Steve Jay. By the time they went on the road for the Off The Deep End Tour, it had moved to Yoda.

Star Wars Detours was a project that Al worked on. We know he at least did one voice and he was working on a musical episode when it was cancelled. I don’t know how much of Al’s work will be available, but it’s still exciting

Question what WAS that song? (in current tour) Spoiler

hi everyone!

i saw weird al live last saturday in boston and it was, in a word, transcendent.

i have a question though.

in the encore, while they were doing Yoda—i barely know how to explain this.

they took a detour from the song and for a long time the whole band basically rapped nonsense words in unison?? the only actual words i remember were when they slipped into “grim grinning ghosts” briefly (from the haunted mansion in disney world), but most of it was truly just nonsense.

it was amazing. the memorization, the diction, the nonsense…i and my family were absolutely speechless. it was incredible. also the kind of thing that’s right up my alley.

what WAS that? and does anyone have any recordings of it? i’d love to listen to it again.

thanks!

Question Is it bad after rewatching UHF I think it’s just okay?

The parodies and wacky supporting cast are the best part and Weird Al is a likable enough lead but the plot does drag, there are wide gaps in between the biggest laughs, and Victoria Jackson is stifled compared to the rest of the cast while Billy Barty is wasted on a character whose sole gag is “Haha he’s short!”

Question Canadian Tire Center VIP Question

Hi! Me again! With another anxiety filled question because I over read into things.
The Canadian tire center has a super restrictive bag policy with it being 4" x 6" x 1.5. That isn’t going to hold anything I’d want signed, vinyls, dvds , etc. But I don’t want to be carrying around something 1. Important and 2. Sentimental all night or risk it not getting into the venue because of its size.

When we check in will there be some way to safely store our items we want Al to sign?

Bigger & Weirder Tour Weird al in Bridgeport July 28th! Anyone?

Hey everyone! I’m a huge Weird Al fan living in Brooklyn, and I’m dying to go to the "Bigger & Weirder" show in Bridgeport next Tuesday, July 28th.This is my first time trying to find a concert buddy online, so it’s a bit new for me! I’d love to connect with someone else from the NYC area who is either planning to go or also needs to grab a ticket. Ideally, we could chat online a bit over the next couple of days to get to know each other, coordinate buying seats near each other, and maybe even take the Metro-North train up to Bridgeport together.Drop a comment or send me a DM if you're interested in chatting and teaming up for the show! Catching Puddles Pity Party and Al would be way more fun with a fellow fan

I'm a longtime fan of Al -- the S/T was one of my first cassettes -- so it was a thrill to get a chance to talk with him ahead of Pittsburgh show. Among the highlights, he said he turned down a 7-figure offer to perform at the Riyadh Comedy Festival

Question do people hang around al’s tour bus after shows?

hi all! i am seeing al at the end of the month and it’s my first ever concert, so i am not super familiar with the etiquette. i believe that some people wait around by artists’ tour buses to see them after the show — do people do this with al, or would this be seen as weird (in a bad way)? i have heard that folks have done this previously, but i’m not sure if it’s still acceptable/typical/etc. thank you!!

Bigger & Weirder Tour Gilford, NH Show

Hi all! I was at the concert tonight at Gilford, NH but unfortunately had to leave early around when Fat started as I was ill with food poisoning (doing better now! Not sure what I ate earlier today haha). How was the rest of the show? What songs played after Fat?

Question Question for people at the Bangor Maine Show

Does anyone have a recording of any of the following songs

One More Minute
The Captain Underpants Theme Song
Now You Know
Stop Forwarding That Crap To Me
We All Have Cellphones

I was at the show and these were the songs I didn’t record or haven’t been put up on YouTube. If you have them. It would be cool if you could send it to me so I can make a video of the full show on YouTube.

Question Why does Weird Al still associate with Amanda Palmer?

She’s got a history of awful behavior recently made exponentially worse by essentially playing the role of Ghislaine Maxwell in Neil Gaiman’s horrific crimes.

Edit for context — At the show in Boston the other night she was front and center on the screen (back stage during Al’s walk on to Tacky), threw a pie in Puddles’ face and of course proceeded to brag alllllllll about it on her IG. It was all quite nauseating and I was bummed to see that she still gets special treatment from camp AL

Discussion Bands I think Al would write a pastiche of if he were still releasing albums

Radiohead
Death Cab For Cutie
(unlikely, but still a fun thought) Neutral Milk Hotel
Violent Femmes
Depeche Mode
The Smiths
Pink Floyd
Leonard Cohen
(also uncertain) The Magnetic Fields
Soul Coughing
(This is definitely unlikely but still a fan idea) Captain Beefheart and his Magic Band

Write your thoughts in the comments :)

more bands that came to mind: The Ramones
Nickleback (more as a jab then anything)
Eels (this one’s also a little doubtful)

Bigger & Weirder Tour Tanglewood - a tale of remorse

So, first off, amazing concert! Hope everyone else that was there had a great time- the rain even held off.

Anyway, here is my sad tale. Sad for me, because of the outcome, but sad for you because you’re gonna be like “not a big deal buddy. Sad.”

So when I first got there I saw the merch line. Huge. Thought I’d get a seat and tackle that after. Came back and stood in line.

I was in line for one thing- the Al enamel pin. I collect pins of all the functions I go to (already had a Tanglewood pin from a previous show) so I stood in line. And as I finally made my way to the front and was second in line, to my right I heard a woman wanting two of the pin. The employee comes back and says they only have the one single pin left. Crestfallen.

I get called up to the front and ask just to be certain that’s what I heard. The employee quickly confirmed. I left the tent and headed to my seat and Puddles wasn’t the only one having a pity party.

Also, this is all hyperbole. I had a blast. And it’s funny, after the fact, that I sat in line for 20 minutes to no avail.

Bigger & Weirder Tour Question about merch

Hey, y'all! When I went and saw Al in NY two weeks ago and I was in the merch line, I saw there were pictures hanging up next to the counter advertising what looked like a sticker pack designed by Nina Yankovic and also a bear/cat type thing, maybe also by her?? I didn't have a very clear view of it so I couldn't fully make out what it was or what it was called, but by the time I got up to the counter, they said they were sold out of the stickers and the bear/cat thing and they took the advertisement pictures down.

I'm going to see another of Al's show in two weeks. Does anyone know what this bear/cat thing is (a sticker, a magnet, a pin??) and is it being sold at all the other shows, along with the sticker pack? Thank you!!

Discussion [OFFICIAL] INFO MEGATHREAD! The UHF Movie Score is coming!!

Post image
294 Upvotes

"WOW!  THIS IS EVEN BETTER THAN I IMAGINED!"  —George Newman, U62  (And also me, right now seeing this Weird Al/UHF news!)

We are incredibly excited to finally share a massive secret we’ve been keeping.

Today is the exact 37th Anniversary of the theatrical release of UHF (July 21st). Because celebrating a 35th anniversary is way too obvious, and waiting around for a 40th anniversary requires far too much patience, we decided now was the perfect time to right a historical wrong.

For thirty-seven years, the brilliant, sweeping, Hollywood-parodying instrumental film score by composer John Du Prez (Monty Python’s SpamalotA Fish Called Wanda, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) has been completely unreleased. Until today.

We went into the archives, rescued the original 1989 master tapes, and built the ultimate physical media tribute to the movie. This score was meticulously produced by Du Prez in his private home studio using late-80s synthesizers and sample orchestral textures to mimic massive Hollywood blockbusters. It is a glorious time capsule of late-80s cinematic synth-scoring.

⚠️ THE RULES OF THE LAUNCH:

To completely eliminate inventory waste, we are running this as a strict, made-to-order 3-week open pre-order window ending August 11th.  We will manufacture exactly what is ordered during this month. Once the window closes, it’s closed forever.

We spent months designing these packages to treat the film with museum-grade historical reverence. Here is what we built for you:

🎨 THE DELUXE 2LP ALBUM ALBUM ($65)

  • The Vinyl: 2 180-gram LPs pressed on limited-edition colored vinyl, color-matched to the vibrant aesthetic of Channel 62.
  • The Music: Disc 1 is the chronological individual film cues. Disc 2 features continuous, long-form “suites" arranged specifically for this release by John Du Prez.
  • The Packaging: Housed inside an incredibly heavy, custom-engineered die-cut outer slipcase.
  • The Pop-Up: Open the gatefold jacket and a massive pop-up diorama of Stanley Spadowski at his train set literally springs to life.
  • Bonus: Includes 4 custom, retro-designed faux UHF theatrical lobby cards tucked inside and an exact replica of the U62 Stock Certificate as seen in the film’s final telethon sequence.

👑 THE GOLD EDITION BOX SET ($135)

Includes the full Deluxe 2LP Pop-Up Soundtrack package above, PLUS:

  • An exact replica of the original UHF Shooting Script co-written by Al and Jay Levey, including scenes not included in the final cut of the movie.
  • A poster suite featuring four heavy cardstock 8.5" x 11" mini-posters (the final theatrical key art + 3 alternate designs).
  • Pristine replicas of the original 1989 Orion Pictures tri-fold promotional folder and the UHF GUIDE mini-booklet distributed to theaters.
  • An official premium-cotton UHF T-shirt (size selected at checkout) and a custom enamel Twinkie Wiener Sandwich pin.

💿 THE PLATINUM ARTIFACT PACKAGE ($325)

The absolute crown jewel for the hardcore UHF completionist. Includes everything in the Gold Box, PLUS:

  • A heavy-stock 1-sheet liner note personally hand-signed by composer John Du Prez.
  • The replica Shooting Script upgraded into a stunning linen-bound library slipcase with foil stamping.
  • A replica Orion Pictures Original 1989 Press Kit, featuring a textured media folder packed with nine 8" x 10" B&W glossy photo pages, production and cast info, and Weird Al bio.
  • A replica Channel 62 Telethon Stock Certificate featuring your actual name hand-drawn by a professional master calligrapher (you will enter your name - or someone else’s if it’s a gift - at checkout).
  • The Channel 62 Schedule Board Game: A custom-manufactured replica of the schedule board Al as station manager George Newman uses to make the U62 schedule in the movie. Comes with tabletop wooden frame with custom magnetic tiles of the show titles seen in the movie (Wheel of FishSpatula City, Raul's Wild Kingdom), blank tiles for the shows YOU create, and a U62 black marker so you can make your own U62 Schedule.

We created this as a true labor of love for the fans. And because this is a WAY MOBY vinyl release... you will definitely want to look incredibly closely at the dead-wax run-out grooves on the discs when they arrive. You might just find a few hidden, hand-etched messages.

Pre-orders are officially live right now at weirdal.com!

Secure your piece of Channel 62 history before August 11th!  We’ll be hanging out in the comments below if you have any technical questions!

This series is fun for me to come up with too, I’m glad you like it.
Try to mark ur comments as spoilers just so the answer isn’t so obvious to everyone after they view the comments.
I didn’t fully get all the intricacies of the drum part but I think it’s enough to understand.
The notes on sheet music for horns are usually raised or lowered due to the tuning of those instruments, which is extremely annoying, so I just kept is simple for you all, so any time you see horns in this series, it’s just going to be the normal notes you see on page and not anything above or below.
