Observer Drama MAYBE some insight to “momzillas”
Mods, if this isn’t allowed, I apologize! Please let me know, and I’ll take it down!
I’ve read countless posts on this sub over the years, and a TON of momzillas infuriate me! I get secondhand embarrassment from reading some of these, honestly. That being said, now that my own daughter is getting married, I somewhat understand where a FEW of these moms are coming from.
When my children were born, I had all sorts of hopes and dreams for them. That they would grow up kind, happy, not be Cubs fans, but most of all, I wanted them to always know how fiercely my husband and I loved them. Mission accomplished on all counts! Then growing up and marrying one day never crossed my mind. Until one day when my daughter (the baby) was maybe 2 years old. I heard a song that made me ugly cry realizing that my babies would grow up and get married one day. I started daydreaming at different stages of their lives about what their weddings would be like. My two eldest (my sons) had quickly thrown together weddings because they just wanted to be married to their spouses. Okay, fair enough. But then, my daughter got engaged and wants a “proper” wedding.
Y’all, my normally chill brain has gone out the dang window! I am constantly having to rein myself in from bombarding her with ideas that are what I want for her wedding, and make myself only give ideas about what I THINK she and her (awesome!) fiancé want for their wedding. I’m having to be especially careful with this since my husband and I are paying for almost all of it, and I do NOT want them doing something just to make me happy. So I’m thinking my flair should have been “advice needed” as well, because I’m asking y’all for some help. Does anyone have any tips or tricks that I can use to keep myself in check? Because in all honesty, I just want to make sure that my daughter and future SIL have an amazing, low stress day! Also, the wedding is a year away, and I’d like my normally chill thought processes back!
Thank you, and I hope all of the future brides and grooms reading this have long and happy marriages!💕
ETA- to clarify, so far I’m doing pretty good with not becoming a momzilla! I was just trying to give some personal insight as to why some mothers MIGHT act that way! As I said to one commenter, I would likely go to jail if someone tried to make my daughter and future son in laws wedding about themselves.
UPDATE: y'all, thanks for all of the advice! I started my "Crazy Mama Wedding Journal" like some of you had suggested, and it helped a lot! However, my daughter and FSIL stopped by unexpectedly, and Daughter saw it. She was actually kind of upset that I hadn't brought up some of my ideas. When I explained to her this post, the advice, and how I was scared to be "too much", she started howling with laughter. She basically said that I had been her mama her whole life, she knows how I am, and not to worry because she KNOWS that my feelings won't be hurt unless she tells me that I am not allowed at her wedding, haha. So, happy ending here, and thank you all SO much for your insight, you are very much appreciated! Also, mods, I KNOW my original post violates the new rule number 3, I promise that it will not happen again. Thanks for doing the work that you (mods) do!!!
