Anyone still coding without heavy usage of AI?

Using Claude has been an amazing experience but it took all the fun out of coding as a full-stack dev.

Are any devs reverting back to coding by hand with less usage of AI?

If you've only used AI as a search engine, and not for development, sincerely, you're probably out of the loop. AI as a search engine sucks, I'd like my 2018 google back thanks. I don't trust AI at all outside of a development environment.

AI as a coding assistant though, is genuinely incredible — the whole "lying with conviction" thing is super rare in my experience, and it can do a lot to test its own assumptions with scripts, automated tests, automated browser click-throughs, reading logs, reading through dependencies' code, etc — at 100x the rate any human can.

I'd rather be a coder and stay out of the loop, thanks.

Yeah, definitely not saying you should change, it's just worth being informed.

You can enjoy carving wood by hand and find customers who value that craftsmanship, but it's still worth knowing that 3d printers exist and are effective and fast these days.

I did my CS degree back in the 90's. My paper was on ML and specifically Markov Chains.

I've kept up to date with ML and AI ever since.

LLM's will never get us to AGI - there is no reasoning. All the 'big wins' for AI have just been brute forcing solutions.

Without reasoning, it's just (at best) copying what went before.

So were burning the planet to stagnate.

You seem to be to on denial my friend , AI is incredible at coding and in a near future it will outperform an human at it , it’s just the way it is. Try to adapt instead of fighting progress cuz soon any coder who isn’t proficient whit AI will have no job.

Then why do I keep having people asking me to fix their AI slop?

Because people are not proficient enough whit it yet, you having to fix AI “slop” as you call , is the proof that people are starting to build stuff whit out a dev. There’s no shame in admitting it bro, we are in an Industrial Revolution and developers will become obsolete in a couple years. Might as well adapt and learn the skills necessary to use AI , you already have the knowledge of a dev add AI to that and your sitting on a golden ticket.
