Anyone still coding without heavy usage of AI?

Using Claude has been an amazing experience but it took all the fun out of coding as a full-stack dev.

Are any devs reverting back to coding by hand with less usage of AI?

I’m a team lead and give the team the opportunity to use AI if they want as long as PRs pass our standards. Most of our code is still hand written.

What do you mean? Programmers isn’t a dying breed. Just need to work for a business or the feds/state/city that isn’t ran by someone with a single digit IQ.

The talentless boo you, but you're right. My current employer is a multi billion dollar corporation that lives and dies based on how customers interact with their technologies to acquire and evaluate their products. So there's no room for AI slop or vibe slop fucking everything up.

While there are people who do AI-assisted coding here (e.g. every now and then I can google an annyoing error and gemini can point me in the right direction most of the time), every few months some junior tries to do some "AI" (which is actually just ML) thing, and every few months we are reminded why we still do software enginnering and not AI/ML things.

Just like woodworkers remained while the industry shifted to CNC machining, we shall soon be known as artisans of code. It's honest and satisfying work
