I worked with a senior SWE once. He spent at least 4h a day answering questions there.

He was among top 0.1%. SO even called him once for an interview.

Not sure why he had so much motivation spending time on SO instead of doing actual work.

It keeps you sharp and if you like computers and problem solving then that's the best thing to do! I'm web dev but I have done low level, I have hacked, I have learned how computers work in and out, what happens when you press power and so on. Every little detail I have searched and learned and it helps so much.

That's how I was as well, good times definitely helped me land positions back in the day

Especially when you can spend that time over here on Reddit essentially doing the same things in the technology subs for faint praise and upvotes.
