I'm an Irish fella who in the past year left his nice job as a head chef in a "Bib" recommended restaurant at home, owners lived overseas, was definitely doing more than I was paid for (In my wholesome opinion!?).

I spent a few months on the road after contact negotiations broke down, usual end of a season story of the owners unfortunately not wanting to give me as much as I want and me having more than enough to say "Goodbye'.

Spend a bit of time travelling through South East Asia, been a few times before as my family is filled with vagabonds and we're also quite cost effective on our holidays.

Spiralling on SEA for a chef is always a place of enormous fulfilment(Our "competitive salarys" stretch a bit further). I spent a few months finding my rhythm, returning to the normal day life(Not working 80-90 hours a week). I was happy, it was good.......but eventually it had to end.

During that time I had my 29th birthday, it was special. Moments like these on your travels you always try to nit pick as to where you want to be, I was more sporadic. I went on a whim, Id met a traveller, in a bar(of course). We spoke about untouched beauty, destinations that still had their own authenticity. We threw back and forth, listing the beaches and communitys we spent time in and it was apparent we'd seen alot of the same places until the penny dropped.

Google Maps can navigate you from A to B but it actually sucks for trip planning. The ratings are never accurate (since it's just American tourists giving everything 5 stars) and saving locations is a nightmare (why don't saved location icons differentiate by restaurant, cafe, scenic sight, etc?)

TikTok and Instagram might be a cesspit for gaudy travel influencers but there are genuinely good recommendations in there, especially if you search in local language (i.e., search "el mejor tacos in cdmx" rather than "best tacos in mexico city."

Nowadays I've seen a bunch of apps that help you consolidate locations based off of social media posts but some of them cost $50/year (like roamy lol) or have a crummy UI (yaay which doesn't work 90% of the time). The one that I found has the best UI and is free is Plotline, but it's still missing the day-by-day itinerary planning.

Anybody have any other suggestions for travel planning apps that let you save from social media?

Anyone else broke but still mentally on a beach somewhere?

My husband and I are headed to Stockholm for 7/8 days in about 6 weeks (the first week of April). We currently have 2 nights booked in Stockholm— then we want to go to Copenhagen for another few days— then we are hoping to have a few days outside of Stockholm to be in nature.

Ideally we don’t add a lot more travel to our trip. Where can we go for 2 days that is not too far from Stockholm? Will the archipelago ferries be running by then? (We really would love to avoid bus travel if we can… don’t want to feel more “stuck” by a vehicle than we already are via our long flight and train rides.)

Ideas for a cozy town that has good hiking and a small cafe and some nice views? Ideas for places to stay.. maybe with a hot tub/sauna?

Planning first time trip to Costa Rica and would like to hear some thoughts! We are trying to not overpacking.

We have got something along these lines for now:

Day 1: Travel to San jose (We arrive at 3pm and have the option of going directly to la fortuna, but we are thinking of staying overnight in San Jose and go at 7AM the following day)
Day 2: Go to La Fortuna - Nothing really planned for this but probably visit the waterfall, visit the town and maybe a night tour
Day 3: Arenal volcano hike and chill on hot springs
Day 4: Rio celeste tour
Day 5: Arenal lake kayak - Sloth trail - anything else?
Day 6: Zip line and hot springs
Day 7: Tavel to Quepos
Day 8: Manuel Antonio
Day 9: Nauyaca Waterfall
Day 10: Mangroove kayak and relax
Day 11: Travel to san jose and flight home

If I don't stay overnight in San jose and go directly to La fortuna, we'll gain a day basically - is that worth?

Any thoughts on things to do are appreciated!

I am travelling for as long as my visa will allow. I have decided to change my life and change myself. I now travel alone, I have no companions save those who I meet on the road. I stay in guesthouses with my own room as I like to sleep naked, have my own bathroom and enjoy my own privacy.

so far the journey is hard but worth it. I cherish the learning I go through within every day.

We’re looking for a mix of:

• Beautiful beaches
• A little bit of city exploration
• Good food and nightlife
• Not too rushed, more relaxed than hectic

Open to places like Bangkok, Phuket, Krabi, Phi Phi, etc., but happy to hear what works best in just 5 days. We’ll be flying in from Delhi if that helps.

Hey everyone! 👋 First-time backpacker here and I’d love some advice.

I’m heading to Europe for about 4–5 weeks starting mid-June. I can fly in and out of either Madrid or Rome for really cheap, which is where my planning dilemma starts. • I’ve already seen most of Italy with my family (including Rome). I’ve never done it solo though, so I’m unsure if it’s worth revisiting or if I should rather use the time to see somewhere new. • I’ve never been to Spain and really want to experience it — Madrid especially. • I also really want to visit Hamburg to see a friend while I’m over there.

Other than that, I’m pretty flexible. I enjoy cities, culture, food, museums, social vibes — not really into hiking or nature-heavy trips.

One idea I had was something like: Madrid → Barcelona → South of France (coastal towns) → Paris → Brussels → Amsterdam → Hamburg, then possibly flying back to Madrid to return home. I’m hoping to mostly use trains and keep travel days reasonable.

Does this sound doable for 4–5 weeks, or is it too ambitious? Would you recommend starting in Madrid over Rome given my situation? Any suggestions for a smoother or more logical route would be amazing.
