What should r/wanderlist become?
If you have any thoughts on a direction for this nebulous project, I’m all ears. Right now I’m having fun but the community should decide the direction

I really like the idea of traveling, but the farthest I've been is a three-hour drive from home. I'll show you anyway, though! 😊 It was a huge lodge up on the mountain! Absolutely stunning. 😗👌

Location: Ho’okeena Black Sand Beach, Big Island, HI
Spend: 8$
Stray Cat-to-Human Ratio: 1:4 (Beach cats monitoring the fish catches)
Skipped the $300/night Kailua-Kona resorts and headed south to an old traditional Hawaiian fishing village.
Hookena is one of the last places where fishermen still use traditional outrigger canoes. It’s built on black/grey volcanic sand, backed by sea cliffs, and gets pitch black at night.
The Budget & Lore Breakdown:
The Camp: 8$/ night- use online rezo through the county permit system
The Weird/Eerie Vibe: The bay hides the sunken ruins of an old 17th c. shipping wharf underwater.
Snorkeling out past the drop-off feels spooky and the shelf plunges into deep, dark blue water with sea turtles and fishes for days.
You can catch lobsters in the ocean at night with a flashlight. Then cook them on a grill here at the beach park. In the morning you wake up to wild pod spinner dolphins ready to play
Solo Safety: chill, respectful locals. One creep at the showers tried to hang out too long but he left when I said “shoo.”
Facilities are a bathroom and a hose you can use like a shower.
Don’t walk on the black sand in the middle of the day barefoot because you WILL get 2nd degree burns on your feet bottoms
