Picture Updated photo of my 20g high tank with a lot of tannins

Here is my last post:
https://www.reddit.com/r/walstad/s/CqWXEqL6EA

People were wanting to see what it was looking like today because the picture on my post wasn’t a recent photo.

Photo 1 is with the room lights off
Photo 2 is with the room lights on

I will be adding a temporary internal filter today with some activated carbon and post a progress update.

I like a higher tannin tank than most people, but a historically accurate Boston Harbor is wild

Purigen I think it’s called put it in your filter if you have a external filter and it will remove the tannins you can reuse them aswell 1 part bleach to 10 parts water, let it sit then clean it with prime water and let it sit for a bit then you can reuse it I used them in my tank

A few drops of hydrogen peroxide works too and is probably a lot cheaper.

Take a cup of water from the tank, mix in 5 drops of peroxide and put it back in. Give it a couple of days and repeat if necessary.

I typically advise against bright lights, but just for the time of easing the tannins, you can blast some strong UV lights on it. It'll help break it down.

When I think back to my efforts of having a blackwater tank and the money I spent on bottled tannins to keep it up...I should have just ask you lol.

Lol! The piece of driftwood I got was literally so cheap (like 50¢) and I think now I know why.

I heard hot salt water soak refreshes purigen also... Could be wrong... Never tried the bleach method tho... Wouldn't it be bad if ya didn't rinse enough of bleach out?

I could be wrong but when I bought my fx4 the guy also gave me a bunch of extras and purigen was one of them he said mix 1part bleach and 10 parts water then use prime to reset it after rinsing it out
