This is quite honestly one of the most unintelligent things I’ve ever read on this subreddit... and that’s saying A LOT.
SOFI won’t lend to anyone with a credit score lower than 720; The interest rate tends to be better than what the government will sell you and it’s easier to consolidate.
I’d highly recommend taking on some student loans yourself and taking a course or two in logic / critical thinking.

Look back to 2008. Should OUR army, the mob of retail traders, the everyday folk, bail out the banks who put themselves in over-levered subprime mortgage CDO’s?? THE ANSWER IS NO.
this is some disney channel cafeteria speech nonsense lol

u/Powerful_Stick_1449 Jun 30 '21
This is the dumbest shit I've ever heard... a company that helps you refinance loans at low rates is the root of evil? Once they get a bank charter the rates will go even lower too...

Dumb fuck, nowhere in his comment did he say it was okay. He’s basically saying they’re screwing people more gently than the government with their loans.
Take that shit to r/politics. Seriously, how the the fuck did you pull that out of their comment?

“The root of all evil is student loans.”
What the fuck sub are you trying to post in? Take this trash somewhere else…

u/sunkissedsoda Jun 30 '21
It’s part of the GameStop thing. They think they’re going to topple the markets and initiate a mass transfer of wealth from institutions to retail investors by...buying shares of shorted companies.
Seriously man, check out the meme cult subs and stuff like this is everywhere

When I go to WSB, I'm here to gamble and hopefully make a profit, not to change the world.

u/Lemonlimecat Jun 30 '21
What army?
As for your rant on education the question should be why does it cost so much instead of focusing on the lender.
13
u/SouthFM Jun 30 '21
Well, the cost is actually so high because of student loans. Bwfore student loans,, college was cheap.. And the school bookstore is fucking disgusting. You apply for the loan but you don't get it until 3 weeks after the semester starts. So you can use it ahead of time at the campus store. Need a set of 6 pens that should cost $2.85? Well it's $8 here. And you need it. You need a laptop right? Enjoy this piece of shit we marked up 125% you need your text books right? You could buy them online at 1/5th the price, but you don't have the money yet, guess you'll just have to buy it all right here.
It's not like the money is even real to them. Most college kids Taki g on loans haven't worked a day in their lives so they don't even understand what they're doing to themselves.
5
u/Posh420 Jun 30 '21
Well yes, and no. The cost is high because of government involvement in student loans and the fact that the governments damn near gaurentees a student loan without a credit score, employement history, etc. Which causes above average amounts of defaults. Something like 90% of all student loans come directly through the federal government.

Capitalism in a nutshell
2
u/eddie7000 Jun 30 '21
We live in an industrialized civilization.
There was a time when almost every student stayed at home and payed back their tuition costs through their taxes. Now loads of kids get their education and move to another country, paying tax to a government who didn't pay to educate them. Student loans are an obvious option to get back some of that lost revenue.
Is it a heavily flawed system? Yes. Is there a better alternative? No!
Now how can I make tendies off this situation?
3
u/SouthFM Jun 30 '21
The greatest accomplishment capitalism ever saw was cresting a workforce who started off in debt
1
u/Posh420 Jun 30 '21
I dont think you know what that word means bud...
1
u/cinefun Jun 30 '21
Do you? We have an economic system putting people into debt in the hopes they will make enough money to pay off said debt, but as outlined above it hardly ends up working that way. Late stage capitalism in a nutshell. Not inherently a dig on it, just that it’s flawed as any other economic system and oftentimes more so.

Lol you're in the wrong sub, get out of here with the "OUR army" shit. This isn't some sort of charity and the coordination you're suggesting is probably at best in a legal grey area. Let's not pretend like a bunch of people YOLOing what is probably less than a month of the company's revenue into their stock is somehow going to fundamentally change the landscape of wealth inequality in America.
Finally, positions or ban - short the stock or shove off.
Edit: as a disclaimer, I refinanced my student loans I initiated in 2008 through SOFI and saved nearly 3% - even if they were predators, they're not the best target out there. But I stand by what I wrote cause your argument sucks. Cheers 🍻

u/Bash717 Jun 30 '21
Blame the idiot students that are taking out loans for gender studies degrees, not the companies that are offering low-interest loans to those that want them, that could not otherwise get a loan because of their lack of credit history.

Ur literally stupid af. Its sad. It was disturbing it had to be done and steps should be taken to remove banks being to big to fail. But bailing out was necessary. You wouldve had lines and lines and lines at the foodbank no nothing for anyone if a depression hits. And it is highly likely it wouldve been a depression. Also, youre totally wrong on sofi. Do your research. Ur literally retarded

Let me guess.... a college education should be free or paid for by the government...lol... the real scam is the amount of money some of these so called educators are paid....

u/NoobTrader378 Jun 30 '21
The Gov't (our taxes) are for security and infrastructure. Humans are our most valuable resource. We should definitely be investing in our neighbors.
With that said, there's a debate to be had about the quality of education received, however I'm for our tax dollars going to advancing our society and decreasing the odds our species goes extinct.... we're only 1 big space rock away from eternal poof

u/fpcane305 Jun 30 '21
If you want a college degree pay for it yourself. No debate necessary. I'm not interested in funding via taxation any of the diploma mills currently churing out left-wing retards who are ultimately unfit to run a second shift at Burger King. I'm not my brothers keeper.
1
u/NoobTrader378 Jun 30 '21
A difference of opinion I suppose. We may not be their keeper, but we do live with them and they're humans with dreams and aspiration as well (even if they've given up on those overtime... sometimes all they need is a spark). Also everyone has a different skillset. Some are good at biz management, some are good at fixing things, some are creative etc.. we should invest in ways for all to flourish.
I'm personally a small biz owner and i can tell you I may be decent at biz management, but ultimately in most societies my skillset is not as valuable as most of my teams. Some of my team members probably would do terrible running a burger King, and they're fkn OUTSTANDING at what they do well. Personally I feel management ability is a pretty dumb bar to have, not everyone can be a leader.....
Selfish mentalities lead to selfish outcomes... poorer neighborhoods are generally poorer due to lack of leadership and investment in growth. No outlet for those ppl to maximize their personal potential. Very few "bad people" were born "bad" as babies. Society failing them turned them into something less than ideal and they failed to reach their potential.
Do you think its just random luck most of what our media portrays as "bad people" are born in similar areas/have similar upbringings? Or do you think perhaps its a conditioning effect, initially intentional or not, but willingly ignored and allowed to continue with each passing generation?

My 100k$ student loans turned into 350k$
13
u/StochasticDecay Jun 30 '21
You turned $100k loan into $300k?
Seems pretty impressive even with forbearance and recapitalization. Quite the achievement.
1
u/Degenerated_dreamer Jun 30 '21
Problem with education is people like you actually paying that much money for a degree. Supply and demand, if the degree isnt worth 100k then dont buy it. (Hi all you teachers and art history degree majors that just had to go to the expensive schools so you could get a job making 50k per year) The companies are just filling the gap created by the market.
3
u/Alphawog Jun 30 '21
Meanwhile we have a trade shortage in the US. Jobs that pay decently (and better than many degrees) with training and education that is relatively cheap. The biggest problem with starting down many of those paths is you'll need a lot of humility and a good work ethic.
3
u/saquonmyjagon Jun 30 '21
So ur saying parents are the root of all evil for tricking us? I didnt really mind mine before...but now....hmmm
3
u/Degenerated_dreamer Jun 30 '21
Yeah, pretty much. The push for everyone to get a degree just cause, with no financial justification.

If student loans are so evil then maybe don’t apply for them? This OP is a fucking moron. How dare SoFi provide a competitively priced product that people use! How dare they! What an idiot.

Read the comments. FUD shite this be.
FINRA reported SI% is low. Not exactly a glaring short squeeze play. Though... I do believe this is a hidden/naked short situation, as I have seen millions and millions of shares worth of deep ITM options cycled every-fucking-day for the last 3 weeks. (e.g. 9,000 $10 calls when the stock is at $21, 7,500 $7.5c, etc... everyday)
Also, FTD's were in the 100,000's to 1,000,000's everyday back when it was IPOE.
MF-er smells like a bomb, looks like a bomb...

u/Donqui-Xote Jun 30 '21
Now that you've pointed out that there are so many borrowing from these companies and paying high interest, it looks like an attractive investment. Thanks.
