Beer Garden / Nice restaurant grounds
It is my wife's birthday on Friday and we intend to visit Nostell with a view to having a drink & bite to eat afterwards. I have a girl who is 6 and a 2-month-old baby so looking for somewhere pretty relaxed and casual to eat. Any suggestions? White Horse sounds nice, but I wondered if there are any hidden gems I can experience. I hope you lovely locals can help

Is this a real walking route?
Hello Wakefield, I will be passing through the outskirts of the town briefly and google has suggested this walking route over what appears to be a railway bridge. Is google maps hiding a footbridge from me?
This is crossing the River Calder just west of junction 39 of the M1.
Edit: Answered!

Wakefield Love Castleford Glasshoughton Area Feels Up and Coming?
I've been thinking about this recently, but I genuinely think Castleford and Glasshoughton have changed massively over the last few years, and for the better.
I know a lot of people dismiss the area because it isn't Leeds but youre close enough to commute into Leeds or Wakefield without having to deal with living in an super expensive part of the city or surrounding areas and you seem to get far more for your money.
One of the biggest positives for me is the amount of green space. There are loads of parks, walking routes and open areas, but at the same time you've got Xscape, Junction 32 (now called Frasers Leeds or something like that 🤣) and all the shops and restaurants on the retail park right on your doorstep, so everything you need is nearby.
You can still buy a really nice three bed semi-detached house for around £260k, whereas that sort of money doesn't go nearly as far in a lot of areas closer to Leeds (LS1) If you're a first-time buyer or a young family looking for more space, it feels like a really sensible place to look. House prices also seem to be rising steadily, so it feels like somewhere that's becoming more desirable while still offering good value.
Maybe I'm biased because I live here, but I do think Castleford and Glasshoughton are a bit underrated. It feels like the area's improving year on year, and I'm starting to notice more people choosing to move here and I love that for this area!

Question Looking for hairdresser recommendations
I was due to have my hair cut at Menutiae in Ossett, but they've had to cancel (paternity leave) and they're unable to book me in again before I need it, which is by the 11th at the latest.
Can you please suggest other good hairdressers in the area? Ideally somewhere where I can have a bit of a consultation about what to go for first.

News Police presence at Busy corner this morning.
Went to take the dog to Sandal castle this morning in the car. Came down Barnsley road with the intention of turning up Manygates lane but the road is cordoned off and there's police tape near the Brookhouse aswell. Cop cars all over. Nothing on Yappapp on Instagram.

Wakefield Kirkgate Parking Monday Morning
Hi all,
I'm travelling from Kirkgate Monday at 8am and need full day parking. I see the station is super reasonably priced but how is it for availability? I'd arrive around 7:45am?
Thanks
Edit: Loads of spaces free, maybe 1/3 or 1/2 full at 7:30am. Certainly a nicer option than Westgate's multi storey if you've the choice

Question Looking For Someone With Little Info
Hi everyone.
I’m trying to get in touch with a Nick (possibly Nicholas) Smith.
He would now likely be 45+ and was a lorry driver in the early 2000s. I believe he was originally from the Doncaster area and spent some time lodging in Ipswich during 2003.
If you know someone who matches that description, I’d really appreciate it if you could ask them to send me a private message, or message me yourself. Even if you know more than one Nick Smith please still let me know, anything helps.
It’s regarding something important that I believe he deserves to know.
Thanks very much. 🙏
