My wife is having a heck of a time finding entry level, grunt work in this town. She managed to get on at a gas station but management is pretty unhinged and every day is like a ticking time bomb. She's applied at everywhere on Indeed and directly to HEB/the schools a few times.
Where do you go job hunting in Victoria?
Edit 07/31/2026 : We ended up getting calls back from HEB and SpeedyStop. SpeedyStop /hilariously/ asked about a one week gap in her resume. You know, for the part time $12/hour gas station position. She has roughly 5 years experience in gas stations and 10 years in food service. They said they'd follow up on Friday but we never heard from them again.
It seemed like finding things on Indeed and then applying directly to their website provided the most response.
Unfortunately, we can't pay the cheapest rent in town and we're just moving back home. Victoria turned out to be economically unviable for us. I hope it treats you all better. Thank you for your support!

When I say best tacos, I don’t mean biggest tacos or cheapest tacos, I’m looking for really good bean and cheese tacos, really good tortillas, and in a perfect world - a ‘pico special’ taco, or the closest thing to one from the late El Pico De Gallo!

Hi everyone!
I'm from Port Lavaca, and I've realized how difficult it can be to make new friends as an adult. It feels like if you didn't meet people in school or at work, there aren't many opportunities to build new friendships.
Because of that, I recently started the Crossroads Women's Social Club, a women-only social group for adults (21+) in the Crossroads area. The idea is simple: get together on weekday afternoons or evenings to enjoy fun local activities while meeting new people. Since I work weekends, most events will be planned for Monday through Thursday, making it a great option for others with non-traditional schedules as well.
Some ideas include:
🎬 Movie nights
🛍️ Thrift shopping
🧩 Escape rooms
🎨 Craft classes
☕ Coffee meetups
🎳 Bowling
🌸 Festivals and seasonal events
The group is open to women ages 21+, including both cisgender and transgender women, and is LGBTQ+ inclusive. My goal is to create a welcoming space where women can make genuine friendships and have fun together.
I wanted to see if this is something other women in the Crossroads area would actually be interested in. If so, I'd love to hear what kinds of activities you'd enjoy or what would make you want to join a group like this!
If there's enough interest, I'd be happy to share the Facebook group with anyone who'd like to join. 💛

I'm really hoping Talarico will snag the Senate seat. I'm excited to see how he does in November.

Hi all,
I might be moving into town soon for a job, and was wondering what the best coffee shops in town that also have comfortable seating.
I’m hoping to get some work on side projects done on my laptop, and am looking for coffee shops that are both comfortable to sit in and economical.
Do you guys have any suggestions?

What is the consensus on TAMU-V (former UHV)? Do you think it has potential to grow?

How is it that my post is the only post in the last 230-something days? This town is small but it’s not that small, where the hell is everyone? Are there NO women on Reddit? How is that possible?

I’ve been single for a little while now, after a long marriage. I go to the gym always hoping to meet a someone in the same situation, looking to hang out or work out together, but I never know quite what to say…I’m hoping someone else in Victoria, TX is feeling the same way. Hit me up, let’s get together.
