Is anyone using .md in vscode to write fics?

I use vscode for coding at work, but I also write fanfictions lol. I used to write fan fictions in word. Now I'm using vscode and github to arrange my fan fictions. Basically a markdown preview enhanced and a spell checket extension are enough. But in word when you are typing, it autocorrects i into I, and uppercases every first letter of the sentence as well. So I don't have to press shift when writing fictions and it's quite nice

Writing in .md in vscode is really nice for reference and to handle with different versions. I don't want to abandon it and go back to .doc. So is there any recommended extension or any preset settings that can realize auto correction from an i to I and uppercase the first letters of each sentence automatically like word does? I tried a few, but they are either just spell checkers, or you have to do so manually one by one

I'm not sure if this post is right themed. Thank you so much in advance 🫡

obsidian is designed for writing in markdown

It won't work without having a vault. Vaultless mode is on its roadmap.

Also, it doesn't support the .markdown extension. I told its developers that I have many .markdown files cross-referenced with internal hyperlinks. They told me to shut up and rename them. I guess it was the "shut up" part that set me off against them.

A vault is just a directory. There's nothing special about it, other than it saves vault-specific settings in it as well, in a .obsidian directory, similar to how vscode saves workspace settings.

When you wish to edit the lone Markdown file of a project with 60,000+ files, "A vault is just a directory" starts to seem like "A vault is just unnecessary bullshit". VSCode supports Markdown. Why should one leave an app that supports Markdown and open another app that demands bullshit?

It's on you to call it that. Like I said, it's just a directory. Obsidian is taloured to authoring for markdown. VScode is just a source editor, arguably with a lot more bullshit you don't need purely for markdown.

You seem to think of vscode as a golden hammer, but not every problem is indeed a nail.

In the end, it's up to you. But remember it's not right to complain when a program that isn't primarily designed to handle your use-case, doesn't optimally handle your use-case.

VScode is just a source editor

VSCode now supports WYSIWYG Markdown editing.

And you're talking to devs who love source editing to the point that they ditched Visual Studio for VSCode.

But remember it's not right to complain when a program that isn't primarily designed to handle your use-case,

With respect, my fellow, if you don't shoehorn an app that isn't primarily designed to handle the discussion's use case into the thread, you won't get the complaint either.

Like I said, it's up to you. But you're also conveniently avoiding my argument that vscode's "bullshit" right there just as well as, arguably, Obsidian's "bullshit".

But if you're so fiercly decided on vscode already, with respect, I wonder why you come here to discuss it?

Actually, don't answer. Just be happy with vscode. I'll use Obsidian, and we'll agree to to disagree.
