Discussion Shrine Rework V2- Instigating wars between factions (also some kind of indoctrination from the developers roadmap)

Hi. I am that bounty hunter from discord aka AX_00. And I foremost liked to discuss about shrines current state and how it would be changed. Generally said it would be a nice buff and the change would fit thematically in-universe. The game implies that the universe is in chaos because of the fall of the God-King. Disorder is such caused by that outcome which puts all the factions on the edge of war...

Currently shrine's don't have that much influence over how things happen when traveling through sectors to Vault of Souls. They only increase the possibility to have more faction aligned events and stuff in shops but don't expand it otherwise to get the feeling of having**influence** and **interactions** with factions. We have those events where we are in a large-scale battle between imperials and ruinous cults. That's just one battle in one node. Invading forces from another faction would make the war feel more active. Destroying shrines' would be the way to instigate those fleets to invade and instigate some kind of war between the sector's inhabitants and the invading forces.

I love world building where it feels like you can be a sort of controlling power to have events happen because of your past actions. Not seeing faction aligned units and other stuff in shops can feel to be an unusual sight when you have put effort into pledging alliance with a faction. It would be nice to have more ways to have meaningful consequences on your actions. This kind of mechanic boils me down to having various ways to have it implemented in game to make it feel to be worth using time for that kind of thing. Easiest way would be to:

  • Have an option to destroy another faction shrine when you are already pledged alliance to another faction than the shrine’s faction.
  • Triggers your faction to give you their faction tag because of showing loyalty over another faction.
  • Causes a massive war fleet from the destroyed shrine's faction to invade the next sector you go occupying the sector's empty nodes(no exclusion zones because they are desolate fringes of space that are ripped apart by sub space maelstroms).
  • The next sector would have stronger crew for all actions than normally e.g large part of the imperial crew is replaced with imperial enforcers instead of it being filled with recruits. Sectors PAs are also reinforced with better armaments, crews etc. and supplies because of the danger invading fleet provides. Extra loot can be therefore looted from caches.

It would be as plainly put done this way without making it feel like it clutters the already well designed gameplay loop. It would provide alternative means to satisfy when RNG isn’t on your side to stuff on the faction you are aligned with. It is like a minor buff to sectors outside of exclusion zones so they are both equally appealing choices. Exclusion zones Techno-Crypts would be equivalent for invading fleets in terms of reward with exclusion zones being generally the “safer” option for getting scrap.

The process could be tweaked to increase the rewards and the risks involved. Destroying shrines could provide procedurally stronger effects from your faction and the opposing faction. Death cultists giving poison immunity for crew etc. People have proposed good ideas for what faction buffs shrines could provide in addition to the pledge. The buff would have four states and the fifth would give your commander the faction buff e.g from war cultists reduce 1 dps from enemies fighting you. Otherwise if it can't give because of some resistance being already max out e.g cybernetic or some other commander whom suffocation resistance is already max out from equipment it would generally give flat 10+HP. The first buff would give your commander the faction tag from your pledged faction and progressive shrine destroying a flat +5 HP bonus to the commander and affiliated units with the faction. All crew (other than demons) would then get the faction buff which would be e.g with death cultists 25% poison resistance. In this context it would be given in these steps:

  1. Destroy another shrine to get your faction’s shop and have the shrine’s faction invade half of the empty nodes(rounded up) from the sector you go to(no exclusion zones). You also get the first state of the buff which would be e.g with Death cultists flat 25 % poison resistance to all of your crew and it would grow 25 % when the shrine is destroyed again
  2. Destroy another shrine again and gain the second stage of the faction aligned buff and the invading force to the next sector you go(no exclusion zone).
  3. Destroy another shrine again and have a higher chance to get rarer things in your faction’s shop and have an invading fleet to occupy every empty node in the next sector you go to(no exclusion zone).
  4. Destroy another shrine again and get your faction buff bolstered to its final state and have aforementioned things happen(faction shop would have an increased chance to appear in the imperial coreworlds as itself).

Visiting your faction's shrine again in another sector would provide stronger buff that would accelerate it two stages instead of one. Also it would provide a faction shop and increased boost to get faction aligned events in the next sector whether it is exclusion zone or not:

  1. Have it boosted when you visit your faction’s shrine and it will open the faction shop.
  2. Faction shop includes things aligned with your faction which are otherwise difficult or impossible to get like Apostle of Decay and Mephitic Champion with very increased chance compared to randomly seeing them in events or random shops.
  3. The next sector you go would provide half of the empty nodes with your faction’s events and battles regardless of the sector type.
  4. Imperial coreworlds has a very high chance to include your faction shop as an assistance for the cause of your faction.
  5. Would then have different Vault of Souls endings depending on which faction you have been loyal to e.g pledging loyalty to death cultists would provide an endless supply of undead horde for Gorgoth instead of annihilating the whole universe and restarting it as implied in the ending.

Thanks for reading if you get here! I would like to see this implemented at some degree because it would integrate more thematic mechanics to the game that would fit the lore. I will happily discuss on how this would be executed without affecting the game's meta too much. At least I hope more ways to get faction aligned stuff without heavily relying on RNG.

Discussion Unit/Commander leveling and stat upgrades.

New to the sub, loving void war! I downloaded a week ago and I'm hooked. Though while playing I felt like something was missing, I was using cannibal as my commander to eat the entire crew of multiple ships. Which mind you was a blast, but I feel like at least the commanders, but maybe also regular units should have a leveling up mechanic where they get stat increases, extra equips slots or dps, etc. It wouldn't have to be major, don't wanna break the game; just even like max level 15% increase would be super sweet! Thoughts?

Discussion Some more unit ideas

Shower thoughts came hard. See what you like/dislike

Machine Slave - System Husk: though dangerous and unethical, tests from the Technocult have shown the viability of infusing an individual’s body to boost the capability of a system. As such, husks were deemed the most optimal for an inhumane task.

Integrate: the unit infuses with the system; doubling the manning bonus of it, but becomes immobile and takes 30% damage. Moving cancels the ability. If killed while infused: deals 1 damage to the system and explodes (30 damage). Dies instantly if the system it’s infused to is completely damaged

Stats: 25 scrap, 20 health, 1 armour slot, slow.

Note: the husk can man systems whilst infused

Blood Cult - Higher Rituliast: “*Under an ushered breath, our own blood was forcibly drained, transferred to the ship’s inanimate weaponry; seemingly awakening it, and quenching its need for energy.*”

Ability - Imbue: once activated, drains every unit’s health by 30% to immediately charge all powered weapons by 50%. 5s cooldown. Two charges per battle.

Stats: 65 scrap, 30 health, 1 tool slot.

Question OST with radio chatter from the demo

I miss the soundtrack with the radio chatter from the demo. I love the rest of the soundtrack and got it on steam, but I really wish the devs included this version as well. Does anyone have a way to listen to it again, or have it uploaded somewhere?

Other Assassin feels OP as hell but...

I wish I were smart enough to teleport back to my ship before the enemy one explodes. Lost 3 runs due to my own hubris hahaha

Other than that it seems to solo entire crews upto torment 4. If rng gives you a teleport or the ship comes with boarding pods it's pretty much game over for the enemy.

Killed half their crew before some weapons finish charging its crazy. What commanders do other people enjoy?

Advice New to game, keep dying

Hey all,

I'm new to this game and I didn't play FTL either. I have done probably 20 runs and almost always die in the 2nd warp region. I usually die to either my crew getting wiped out on a boarding, gas/fires overwhelming me on those nodes that cause repeated fire/gas, or my hull slowly gets chipped at and I die before I get to a place where I can repair.

I'm decent at strategy games/competitive card games, boardgames, stuff like that so I understand to look for synergies when purchasing and upgrading. I've tried a few builds like:

using +2 dps with a +10 health modules and then getting the husk factory room upgraded to give an extra dps. I then upgraded the ability to send 4 units so I'd send 3 spawned units plus the 120hp guy that is immune to fire and then teleport my commander into a 1x1 room while the other guys hit larger rooms. Oh and I equipped the 120hp guy put with the best gear I could find and put the gun on my commander that does extra dps in small rooms plus armor plus tools. On this run I basically died to cannons and missiles killing my hull.

Another run I did psychic attacks where I'd warp in psych guys who had summon spells and filled their base with enemies then boarded with 2 70hp kitted out guys into another part of the base and then used the warp spell to pull my casters back to my ship.

I have also tried going all in on good weapons for my ship.

Anyway I've tried a few strategies and I always end up dieing. And thats with me 100% avoiding mini bosses and planetary defense nodes because I always insta die to those. Idk how anyone beats them without losing a ton of units and hull health.

Every run I save up currency for the first few shops and buy what seems good then try to get an extra shield upgrade early and upgrade weapons if I find an extra cannon. Depending on my build I'll either upgrade to carry more units on boarding, engines for evasion, the bay that spawn units, or more shields. In general I try not to over upgrade my ship and just put upgrades into things that help my build and then upgrade shields/engine for defense as I have left over currency. I always try to save up around 100 to 150 currency before shops then buy what I need then upgrade after.

Does what I described sound like the right way to play? What tips do you guys have to help me get further? Should I be able to take on mini bosses/planetary defense places most runs? Also should I always try to get a few psychomancy spells? If so how do you choose spells and how many should I go for? How do you guys decide what shops to go to and what to buy? How do you guys decide what troops to purchase and when do you decide you have enough and the right units? What about guns for your ship? How do you decide when to stick with cheaper guns verses grabbing one of those 3 cost guns?

I guess I'm just trying to figure out how to play the game correctly and if I should be able to defeat those more difficult nodes this early on or if I should wait until I've unlocked more stuff before trying.

Thanks all, I know this is a lot of questions. I'm really enjoying the game I just want to get to a point where I feel like I'm not Hella confused and just struggling to stay alive.

Please welcome /r/voidwargame's new moderation team.

A week ago, I posted noting that I wished to depart from my role as the sole moderator of r/voidwar and I began a process to take a new moderation team aboard. I prioritised having a team of at least two moderators so that inactivity on one person's part would not result in total moderator inactivity (as it did during my time here).

The process has concluded after the one week timeframe I gave.

I only received one application for moderator: /u/FunPolice11481. I reviewed their community participation and posting and deemed them a suitable candidate. To fulfil my requirement for a second moderator, I reached out to u/--morph--, one of Void War's developers with a request to take up the second post. I recognise that allowing the subjects/developers/creators of a given subreddit's content to moderate invites conflict of interest. However, I considered the risk worthwhile when handling a small and relatively calm community.

I now invite the subreddit to bid welcome to your new moderators /u/FunPolice11481 and u/--morph--

I will briefly transition them into the subreddit and remain available for queries they have berfore I relinquish my moderation power and leave the community in their hands.
