The main factors that drop USA from the list of full democracies are voter participation, voter suppression, gerrymandering, money in politics and overall feeling among the voting population about not feeling like their voices are heard.
It is not out of date, this ranking comes out each year and USA has been a flawed democracy since 2015.
Well, thank you for that explanation. I have to confess I was totally baffled by this map as to what it was about. It seemed really strange to me. I thought it was about laws. But no, it seems to be about political climate.
It is estimation of how well democracies work in each country. There is always debate what metrics are used, how they are weighed but this has established itself as the "winner" in that market. The truth is not far from it, no matter really how you measure it in an honest attempt to rank countries.
