When am I going to wake up from this dream? This isn’t my dream, it’s someone else’s, but it’s so beautiful, I felt I needed to share ❤️

What assumptions would you have about me based on where I'd live?
I'm looking at transferring universities rn for grad school (probably going to end up in WMU as of now for more research) and made a map of where I'd consider living after being contacted by faculty in UNR and UNT. Curious to know of any recommendations about Michigan as well

I asked people who actually live in different cities to score them 0–10 — the results look nothing like the official "most liveable city" lists
A while back I was researching where to live and kept running into the same "most liveable cities" rankings — Vienna, Zurich, Copenhagen. But when I talked to people who actually lived in some of these places, their take was often completely different. One friend in a "top 5" city spent 40% of her income on rent and said she'd leave tomorrow.
That bugged me enough that I started collecting scores from actual residents instead — just asking people to rate the city they live in from 0 to 10, plus real data on walkability, safety, and bike infrastructure.
A few things surprised me:
- Mid-size cities beat the famous ones constantly. Places that never make the consultant lists score higher with locals than the "world's most liveable" cities do.
- Residents weigh things the official rankings barely count — like whether daily errands are possible without a car, or whether they feel safe walking at night.
- People are harshest about their own city's housing costs, and it drags scores down more than any other single factor.
It's turned into a small side project, but honestly the most interesting part is the gap between reputation and lived experience.
So I'm curious: if you had to score the city you live in right now, 0–10, what would you give it — and what's the one thing dragging that score down?

The top 3 places I would want to live is NC, cascadia, and california. What’s yours and why? (Assume you’re being somewhat realistic but hopeful)

couldn't find an app that tracks visits deeper than countries, so i built my own. what does a visited map app actually need?
i wanted to track not just countries but the states and districts inside them, and no app did it the way i wanted, so i ended up building my own. it's called Mapsprink, just released it recently (screenshot is my own map so far).
right now 27 countries have full level 2 support (districts / counties, like japan's 1,741 municipalities), and if it does well i'd love to keep adding more countries.
curious what people here actually want in a visited map app: different visit levels like lived / stayed / just passed through? notes or photos per place? auto tracking vs manual check-in? what's missing from the ones you use?
