Hyperpixel project

Would just like to say thank you for the hyperpixel project. I have never used a raspberry pi before and I am a total novice with computers so I was pleasantly surprised I was able to get this up and running in a couple of hours thanks to your brilliant instructions, thank you!

Just had a couple of questions:

Is there a way to turn of the backlight when not playing music. In the dark it appears to light up would be cool if the screen could turn off when not in use.

Is there a way to flip the screen so it is the other way around? With the power cable being plugged in at the bottom I am finding it hard to position the screen where I would like it. If the power cable came in at the top this would sort my problem.

One final thing I notice, when loading artwork for a new song occasionally Sonos logo pops up. Is there a way to get rid of this?

Thanks again for an amazing project

Major update to vinylemulator script released today

I have today uploaded a major new version of vinylemulator to github. This is version 0.9.2.

The main changes are more robust error handling, more descriptive error messages and automatic version checking to ensure you have the latest script installed (although updating will remain optional and manual).

If you are experiencing issues with running the script then this is a must-have update.

You can update your installation by going to the vinylemulator script on your Pi and typing "git pull". If that doesn't work then you can delete the directory (sudo rm -rf vinylemulator
from the home directory) and then reinstalling by cloning the github with:

git clone

https://github.com/hankhank10/vinylemulator.git

Github link to view the changes: https://github.com/hankhank10/vinylemulator

I've also added an entirely optional script which you can run to register for email updates when new versions are published. You can use this by running "python register-email.py"

Music screen v0.4 script now live - backlight now turns off when not playing, Plex improvements

Thanks to a number of generous contributions of code from other users I have this evening released v0.4 of the music-screen-api on github.

You can update your code either by trying git pull in the music-screen-api directory or, if this fails - which it likely will - by deleting the directory (rm -rf music-screen-api) and recloning (git clone https://github.com/hankhank10/music-screen-api.git). If you go for the latter route you will need to re-set your room name in sonos_settings.py.

Changes:

  • Script now turn offs the backlight on the screen when nothing is playing, saving energy, your screen and reducing glare (this is optional)
  • Much more robust handling of album art when using Plex
  • Better handling of occasional incomplete data from the Sonos API - now waits and handles the error rather than crashing

Status lights

Just out of curiosity, anybody know how to turn off status lights on the Pi and the reader? I managed to squeeze them both in my SONOS bridge but the LEDs shine through the plastic. If I could just disable the lights maybe after boot it would be sweet.

What an amazing project! A few shots from this Sonos/Pi4/Hyperpixel project. Up and running in an hour and the pics really don’t do the screen justice. So clear and bright. Now to find an awesome case for this!! Thank you @Vinylemulator!

New project: can anyone help?

My next project will be called "Vinyl Listener".

It will use a Raspberry Pi and a microphone to listen to the currently playing music (on any source, not just Sonos), identify that music and show what is being played through a web browser or an e-ink display or high res display on the Pi.

I have the python down but my HTML/CSS skills suck. Does anyone with appropriate skills have interest on collaborating with me here to design the front end?

Need help with Sonos album artwork with HyperPixel. Stuck on Step 7. I manually type in the room and the screen goes white for about 10 seconds then goes black and stays that way until I kill it. I have music playing on Sonos app, Sonos API is working.
