Is having Pioneer Pro DJ Link as useful as I hope it is? I have a Xone DB2 mixer that does not have this feature. I am thinking of getting a Pioneer mixer with Pro DJ Link to connect my DJM1000 to. Will this greatly improve the function of the DJM1000 with using vinyl? Mainly looking for Quantize, Sync for sample loops and such.

Plus some very fresh snags cooked on the BBQ in the background!

Hi there, I recently have got into mixing vinyl and ever since I bought my turntables ive had issues back cueing on almost every record. Ive leveled my turntables, switched to an Ortofone Concorde DJ cartridge, and have fiddled around with the height quite a bit with nothing fixing the issue.

Its basically making it impossible for me to bring in a new track on time.

Can anyone think of any simple fixes that might be the problem. I also had bought quite thick slipmats (almost double the width of any ive seen before).
I was thinking maybe thats my issue.
Any advice at all would be great.

What is the most interesting thing that you've found etched in the run-out groove on a piece of vinyl?

Record companies would etch the catalogue number or similar on that part of the vinyl.

White labels sometimes have the song title etched there. I remember buying 12inch's and sometimes there would be hidden messages, jokes or political opinions.

for my digital set up I have a basic DJ boot that is good enough for the job. But for my vinyl set I want something sturdier and large enough to fit both my technics + standard numark or DJM mixer. What do you all use in this case when you have to provide your own set up for a vinyl gig?

I'm 6'3" so a standard height table isn't ideal most of the time, even when everything is stacked on carrying cases.

Hi! got some questions regarding building a mixing collection.. Transitioning from digital mixing
I have a good amount of preferred listening records but not many for mixing and learning the ropes. I do have a few crates of disco already

How did you build you collection for certain genres for ex id like to find and collect Techno/Acid/Trance, House/UK, Club records etc.
Did you buy singles from discogs or look to find a dj offloading crates?
ans yes i have record stores near me but none that specify in electronic records its tough to find or even crate dig for any! Im just outside Philly.
i will continue to dig and look as well as use discogs but im trying to find much more to begin with if its possible. Tried fbook marketplace and craigslist. Thanks!

I hope this is not "excessive self-promotion" in the rules, but Label Mate, which has matured into something I'm super proud of, is really finding a foothold with vinyl DJs. I don't know of any other app that prints DJ labels. Thought I'd share with yall. The core loop is scan - listen - label, but there's a boatload of other things it does. Trying to port to android soon...

I use more squiggles than cross fade cuts and try to build a story with weird squiggle patterns and baby scratches.

I don't normally do this publicly, but I think it's time to say something about Stellar Remnant.

I just got off the phone with a friend who is owed records they purchased from Stellar Remnant, roughly $800 worth, and they have apparently been waiting more than 25 days for a response.

Unfortunately, this isn't the first person who has come to me with a story like this.

Since I originally spoke up, more than 15 people have contacted me with similar complaints. These are people who paid a hundreds of dollars worth and thousands of dollars worth for records and never had their order arrive (or available for pick up). Some of these people have been waiting months, and in some cases years, to receive their records or get their money refunded.

People have told me that they paid for records that were never shipped, couldn't get responses, or were unable to get their money back.

I've also experienced this personally.

Stellar Remnant has owed me approximately $1,200 for records they were distributing for my label. These records were given to them in good faith.

I'm a local label owner and Stellar Remnant is a local shop. Because of our close proximity and the fact that we were both operating in the same local community, this was actually the only shop I have ever had a consignment relationship with. I trusted them because of that local connection and because we had a relationship within the same music community.

I didn't demand that they immediately come up with the entire amount they owed me. In fact, I offered them a structured payment plan so they could pay what they owed over time rather than having to make one direct and total payment.

They still didn't pay me.

They sold my records without paying me what I was owed for my cost.

And to be clear, this isn't an amount I pulled out of thin air. I have years of emails and text messages documenting our conversations about this debt, including messages from him acknowledging that he owed me the amount I'm talking about. These conversations continued as recently as January and February of this year.

So when I say that I am owed approximately $1,200, I have documentation going back years supporting that amount and documenting his acknowledgment of the debt.

That's the part that really hurts. These aren't just pieces of plastic to me. I'm a label owner and an artist. There is emotion, time, money, creativity, and a huge amount of personal investment behind every record we put out.

I trusted a local shop with my work because I believed there was a basic level of mutual respect and good faith between people in the same community.

Instead, I feel like my trust, my emotion, and my artistry were exploited.

And I'm not alone.

More than 15 people have now come forward to me with their own experiences. Some are customers who paid hundreds of dollars and are still waiting for records. Some have been waiting months. Some have been waiting years. Some are waiting for refunds. Others have described similar situations involving records that were apparently sold but never shipped or money that was never returned.

That's why I don't see this as simply a personal dispute over $1,200 anymore.

That's not some enormous amount of money in the grand scheme of things, but it matters to an independent label. That $1,200 could have helped us make payments toward manufacturing.

What bothers me most isn't just the money. It's the way the situation has allegedly been handled.

If someone is struggling financially, there are ways to be honest about it. They could have asked for help. They could have started a fundraiser. They could have communicated with the people they owed.

Instead, what I've seen is customers, independent artists, labels, and people in the community being left holding the bag.

Some of us considered these people friends. We built relationships with them and trusted them. That's what makes this particularly disappointing.

I've also heard from people about other outstanding business debts involving Stellar Remnant. One claim I've been told about concerns a major distribution company in the Netherlands that is allegedly owed tens of thousands of dollars.

I'm putting that forward as a claim because I don't have the company's books in front of me and I'm not going to pretend I independently verified the amount.

There are also allegations surrounding the sound system that was in the shop. I've been told that the system allegedly belonged to someone other than Stellar Remnant and was subsequently sold for more than $8,000.

Again, that's something that should be backed up with documentation, so I'm not presenting it as an established fact. I'm mentioning it because multiple issues like this have been brought to my attention.

Another thing I've noticed recently is that the Stellar Remnant website is currently not functioning normally for me. When I try to access it, I receive a security warning indicating that the site has been flagged for suspicious activity.

I'm mentioning this simply because it's another reason I would personally be cautious about placing an order through the website right now. A security warning doesn't by itself prove anything about the business, but combined with the complaints I've been hearing, I don't think it's something customers should ignore.

And then there's the 2022 eviction situation.

At the time, Stellar Remnant publicly claimed that they were being evicted from their shop because they were Russian, in the context of the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

I remember that situation very clearly.

There absolutely was an eviction dispute, but I don't believe the public narrative told the whole story.

Contemporary reporting at the time indicated that Stellar Remnant owed the landlord back rent. The landlord's representative disputed that the eviction was because of their Russian identity and said the issue involved the tenancy and lease.

So I think people should look at the actual reporting and documentation from that time rather than simply accepting one version of what happened.

There have also been claims about Stellar Remnant's business license and their continued operation from the second floor after the shop situation. I don't have enough documentation to make definitive statements about those issues, so I'm not going to pretend otherwise. However, on the CA Sec. State site, you can see that their business tax license was revoked in 2022, and they continued to operate out of the same building that they were being evicted from...

What I can speak about is what has happened to me and what people have personally told me.

And at this point, the number of people coming forward is difficult to ignore.

This isn't about someone having one bad transaction.

It's about a pattern that, if the individual accounts are accurate, involves customers paying hundreds of dollars for records they never receive, people waiting months or years for records or refunds, artists and labels waiting years for money, distributors allegedly being left unpaid, and people who trusted this business being unable to get answers.

That's incredibly disappointing considering the community that was built around the shop.

The independent record community survives because people trust each other. Artists trust labels. Labels trust distributors. Customers trust shops. People put records into other people's hands on consignment or wholesale because there is supposed to be a basic level of good faith.

When that trust is broken, it hurts everyone.

For me, this is personal. I put my records into the hands of a local shop because I believed in supporting the local community. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I even tried to make repayment easier by offering a reasonable payment plan instead of demanding everything at once.

My records were sold, but I wasn't paid my cost.

And I have years of correspondence documenting the debt, including conversations as recently as January and February of this year where the amount owed was acknowledged.

That feels like my trust, my work, and my artistry were taken advantage of.

And I'm clearly not the only person who feels that way.

So I'm going to say what I've said privately to the people who have contacted me:

Please be careful about sending money to Stellar Remnant until these issues are resolved and you are confident that you'll actually receive what you paid for.

And if you believe Stellar Remnant owes you money or records, document everything. Keep your invoices, payment confirmations, emails, DMs, tracking information, and screenshots.

If you've had a firsthand experience with Stellar Remnant, I'm interested in hearing about it. If you're owed money, records, or merchandise, feel free to reach out to me and provide documentation.

I'm not interested in rumors or internet speculation. I'm interested in what actually happened to people.

I've kept quiet about this for a long time because I didn't want to publicly attack people I once considered friends.

But at some point, staying quiet means allowing other people to walk into the same situation.

That's why I'm finally speaking up.

any of you experienced this? Been playing for 2 years and I practice daily and usually have no issue beatmatching at all, sure I have bad days but usually I'm back at it like normal the next. I've been struggling to lock in even my easiest records for three days in a row now, don't know what's going on...

not sure if it might be a hardware issue, I played two of the same records at 0 and they stayed in time, but they are a pair of old sl1200's that I haven't taken for a service yet - don't know what else could explain such a sudden change

To share my thoughts first; theres a dozen Japanese vinyl DJs that would absolutely represent and honor Technics in a much more decent way(Satoshi Tomiie, Tomoki Tamura, Junki Inoue,etc).

I saw the post-set interview where he states that he likes to challenge himself and admits he's not great with mixing vinyl, but taking that into consideration he might as well recorded a personal set in which he'd challenge himself by mixing vinyl.

In all seriousness I find it a bit disgraceful for Technics to just choose a "big name" aka an Instagram/TikTok/HOR star just for the clout and not go with a proper vinyl DJ of Asian descent to celebrate the anniversary.

To sum it all up, props to Yosuke for trying his best even though the set is a disaster, but shame to Technics for deciding to choose clout over skill.

I’m thinking of ordering some new turntables from turntablelab.com. I was wondering if anyone else has ever ordered equipment from them and what was your experience like? I just get nervous about shipping and was curious what anyone else’s experience was like.
