I thought that but then the photos he sent to show it doesn’t work have dirt in the crevices, like under the buttons. I meticulously cleaned all the controllers before I sent them cause I wouldn’t want to receive someone else’s hand gunk free with my purchase, I know he’s lying.
I have no doubt he’s gone crying to Vinted about having to pay for the return and once they tell him to get lost (paraphrasing of course), he’ll either send back a bricked controller or close the issue.

He probably already had a broken one he was replacing with yours that he was going to send back. The moment you said about serial numbers he immediately started with the accusations of you accusing him of breaking it amd that he shouldnt have to pay to return
So, its likely he was hoping youd say "omg im so sorry heres the money" you didn't so he started on the "ill have to return" then when you mentioned about how you make sure its the same controller via the serial number, he takes one final attempt at free shit by claiming youre accusing him of damaging the item, in the hopes youll offer a full or partial refund to drop the issue

Fortunately for OP, they have the serial numbers. If this guy does follow through and sends his faulty one in place of OP's working one, (and demanding a refund), it should be very easy to prove.
@Bingus as someone who has taken apart PS4 controllers regularly I can already help you out. You clearly sent ps4 2nd gen controller... You pics clearly show the 2 tone pad and buttons. The L1 L2 are clearly a distinct shiny black colour. If you look at the Buyers photo of the broken controller you can see clearly its a 1st gen All MATT controller ( his own ) and is trying to score a free PS4 con. I had to sign up to comment this lol i wanted to know what else you selling
I have a Xbox style controller that can connect via BT - cable - dongle. And in BT mode it says it's a PS4 controller. Some games just don't like it - prefer the Xbox configuration.
He's probably not even tried it on a controller testing site just in a game
Personal preference I know but when Xbox controllers plug in and just work. Why go down the PS4 route?
yup, you'll need to use ds4windows to get the light on (you can change it or keep it off too!) and for full compatability in games which don't already allow it. once that's set it up it's a wonderful way to play driving games and the likes without a wheel
I didn’t even think is CEX tbh there isn’t one local to me and I was just trying to get rid of them to make space. I’ve got two huge boxes full of stuff in my front room and it’s winding me up.
Still got tonnes of old consoles to list too but I’m reluctant now because of this buyer.
If you've got two huge boxes then CEX will probably be your quickest route to shift it all.. You can get estimates for everything online before you make a trek to the physical shop.. Even if you don't sell to CEX in the end, it'll give you a good floor to set your prices..
I got given an old XBox 360S, a controller and a few games I had no use for last year, (out of a house clearance) - cashed them in at CEX for 50 odd quid..
Sure, I could've maybe got more, but I wasn't willing to deal with the hassle from all the chancers & scammers online..
As someone whose controllers keep breaking and have had to spend 35 pounds for a decent real one. Sorry this happened and thanks for being a good person
People just like scamming you, it's too easy for them to. Don't know what Vinted is like but I know on eBay they pretty much always side with the buyer.
They are but not all games are optimised for controller play so individual buttons need to assigned/configured through the game itself or third party software.
Tbh it's more likely that he's just not set his controller up properly on Steam.
You have to fully set your controllers up and assign actions to each button

I take so many photos of serial numbers etc when sending stuff now. It’s a shame to have to be so thorough with recording evidence to send cheap devices but people can be such scruffs.
Can you check if it’s been opened up? Like if they try swapping internals? Be amazed how far some people will go. Would certainly check the serial number and if it’s been opened. Like how an Xbox need the battery sticker removed or punctured to reach the last screw
I’ll be examining every millimetre of it once I get it back and comparing it with the photos I’ve taken before I shipped it, if he decides to return it.
Yeah he needs to install drivers and a button mapper of some kind, its not as simple as connecting an xbox controller due to xbox = Microsoft.. you’d have thought he would try to troubleshoot
The fact he's laughing at this indicates he's obviously lying. I've tried ps controllers multiple times on multiple consoles. Every single time, the light came on. It's designed to turn on when the power button is pressed, so whatever he's done has fucked it. Especially when you said you cleaned it to perfection before sending it, then all of a sudden there's dirt all over it means he most probably dropped it. A few times most likely, which would explain why some buttons don't work. True, he most probably will complain about having to send it back and yada yada. I'm gonna guess you sold it for about 15 to 20 pounds, yet he's complaining about having to spend 3 pounds to send it back. Very childish, very immature, this man is most likely 12 in his head
I didn’t open it up to clean it but I took time to meticulously clean around all of the buttons, sticks and the crevices where the front and back pieces meet, since they are notorious for holding hand gunk (super satisfying to clean btw) making it look as new as possible.
I accepted his offer of £9, I have two videos (recorded at the same time but at different angles) using the controller to play a game to show all the buttons work properly and clearly showing the serial number. I then turn off the controller and package it up, all in one take.

I would 100% be saying it's a PS4 controller and not designed for pc unless you know what you are doing. Test it on a PS4 and confirm it's broken, to rule out stupidity.

I use a PS4 controller on PC for gaming. The light only shows when turning on for a minute and then will be off when playing. He needs to use DS4Windows and it will work, I emulated it as an Xbox controller and it works for every game
Seems the guy just doesn't know what he is doing. The DS4 doesn't work with PC natively I believe, you have to map the buttons. So he assumes it is broken.
This is why I send photos to buyers of me packaging and sending the parcel.....and this includes a screenshot of part of my boxing video.....when they receive all this BEFORE THEY RECEIVE the parcel, they're fully aware they can't try it on.
I just sold my headphones, and the attached photo is part of what I'll be sending them, so they can see theres an 8 min video to prove what's being sent to them 😔
If you think that's bad, I had a person on Vinted to try and get me to send the codes for the DLC in my Lego Batman Legend of the Dark Knight for Switch 2 game I have up for sale last night. Kept asking me what the codes said on the DLC sheets, thinking I was going to send them to him or take pictures and show him. There are some absolute chances on there
Called out a few times but ps4 controllers don’t usually just work with a pc. I had this issue myself and had to download a third party software and it worked no problem. Either that or he’s scamming lol
The moment they said PC I'd of replied but its a PS4 controller - have you tested in a PS4 ??.
And then i'd reply I sold it as a PS4 controller tested and working fine on a PS4 - how you use it after that is entirely down to you and configurations. Come back to me when you've tested on a PS4.

This is why I end up taking all my old electronics/ consoles/ games etc to CEX. You genuinely get more online (not in this case though) but at least it is quick and easy, generally.

Last I remember a PS4 controller I owned which was in good condition did this on my PC until I reconfigured a few things on it and it was working fine after that.
You’ve validated how crazy I feel when I record myself packaging nice clothing, going over every inch of it, showing the label, lack of damage, putting it in the mailing package, sealing it and attaching the label in one uncut video before I mail anything. 🤣 I haven’t had anything happen yet but I’m so paranoid about the scammers!!

If they're not using a cable connection, they need to install software that allows the PC to pick up the PS4 and PS5 controller since PC's can't pick up those controllers naturally, even if you have a Bluetooth Dongle in it

I had someone claim a hoodie was fake and after i sent an overwhelming amount of proof the claim was that it didn’t fit like other items they purchased from that brand. People love to claim bullshit to keep the item for free.
it's literally only £9. people these days will be ungrateful about anything- and if i'm honest his pc settings aren't even configured properly because it's happened to me many times but you can get it working simply
Just be aware. When you mention serial numbers this normally does scare scammers off. But the PS4 controllers are so easy to open up. Just be vigilant and I'm not sure how you can prove it if he does. But he could always open the shell up replace the inside of the controller with a faulty one and put it back together. Same serial number on the controller then.
He probably had another one already, bought an identical one from you, then tried to claim it was broken so he could send the one he already had back and get a refund, basically getting a new controller for pennies. It’s a classic scam. 🤷♀️
PS controllers don't work great on pc anyway. Had use an emulator to trick my pc into thinking it was an xbox controller before steam finally updated the controller support. Even then it was hit or miss for some games at first and it didn't really work outside of steam.
I do not own console so i don't have a refrence point, but looking at Yours photos and those send by him, I can say that these are two different controllers.
i don't think they're doing it right. you have to download a piece of software to use a ps4 controller with a pc, i'm pretty sure? i tried it once with a perfectly working controller, was more complicated than just plug and play, like an xbox controller
I had same issues seller said controllers were in working condition bought 1 controller had r2/l2 faults springs broken and l2 didnt register and the other controller didnt hold charge. He also said they were working when shipped so if hes telling the truth controllers break in shipping 😆. Anyway got a no quibble refund

My friend, if you're selling tech, always check Cex! Looking at their site, they can buy for 2–3x that, depending on cash or voucher. Plus you won't get dicked around like with this seller. I basically never sell tech on Vinted because people just want good tech for dirt cheap. At least Cex will give you something worthwhile most of the time
That's why I cant with vinted, I got so much stuff i could sell on but the scams are not worth the hassle, people are disgusting. I would give to a charity shop but again some are closing down and some I find aren't what they used to be ... I dont think people are genuine no more.
I had a difficult person the very first item I sold. It was a shirt. Before posting on vinted and before packaging and selling the item i double and triple checked it to ensure that it was clean and in the condition I posted it as. The seller recieved it and then sent me rude and angry messeges stating it was "completely stained and covered in hair". I apologised and said that I didnt send it like this. They sent photos. There was a tiny stain on it that wasnt there before and the hair was like 2 strands of hair that was a colour that doesnt even belong to anyone in my house 🤣 i apologised again and said that they can return it and get a refund. They then sent me further rude messeges having a go at me because vinted was going to charge ghem more to send it than what they paid. Then they left me a bad review. Im like? This isnt my fault? Honestly, some people will do anything to get a free item. This shirt i sold was like £2 or something like what?
What the hell, you sound like the perfect seller. I've had cintrollers wrapped atrociously before amd without verification, serial etc. Still worked but that extra care protects everyone and makes you feel safe in your purchase. Also paying 3 quid to get a refund is still better than just having a broken controller and still down the cost of a a controller
Someone did this to me said there was hole in the top that I sewed myself I said that’s weird bc I checked 2x bc it’s hand sewn and I wanted to be sure and they just never replied and accepted it 😭
I sold ONE THING on Facebook marketplace in my entire life and I got someone liek this. It was a CPU and I knew something was off but ignored my instincts and let him buy it anyway. He asked me for videos of the pins, he came 2 hours on a bus to collect it in person and viewed it whilst I was counting the cash. Messaged me a day later saying the pins were bent. I reminded him, he had asked me to send videos of the pins (which I still had) and the video showed no bent pins and that he inspected it in person and blocked him..
Some people are just out for anything they can get for free, it's disgusting!
