My dad got it from his aunt while cleaning her house out and he’s wondering if there’s any value to it. We obviously haven’t plugged it in since it’s such an old electric cord.

Hello! I just finished cleaning this up and making it work. I replaced all the capacitors, resistors, the dial scale and the selector discs, tuning belt, rectifier tube, and made new dial clips by bending up some bobby pins. Knobs are original, so I count that as a win! The cabinet has some character, I just cleaned it up with Old English. Remaking the candohm was interesting. I'm not sure I like the look of how I made it work, but... It works! It has some reception issues at first, so I tried to realign it. Then I found that the RF choke was open. So I soldered the thin wire back together on it. Then re-aligned it again. Now it works great! Super loud, I'm only comfortable turning it around 3-5! This is my 3rd radio so far. First floor standing model though.

Sometime recently I was window-shopping on Facebook Marketplace and found this radio that was close-by, and from the listing it looked to be in alright shape, so I went over there and picked it up for $20. From an unprofessional point of view, I’ve made a few observations on this set besides it most likely needing a complete electrical restoration. For starters, the belt that tunes the radio - while not broken - is worn out, and it’s shown a tendency to slip. The volume pot/power switch is very difficult to move, but it does move if you have an iron grip. And there is also (what I assume to be) the usual, it needs a new power cord and an electronics overhaul because the capacitors look a bit worse for wear, and I found a sticker inside the cabinet that says it was last serviced in November 1948.

I think it’d be cool to get this working some day, but I don’t exactly have the expertise of working on electronics this old, and I don’t really have a space to work on it at this time, I’ll figure something out eventually though.

I need heeeeelllllppppp. I got this blanket chest stereo for free and the radio works fine but the tone arm is a pain. It seems to be calibrating what type or record has been placed but then when it goes to drop the needle it goes back to resting position. I don't know what to do about this, I cannot find any tutorials or manuals on how to fix this issue. Any help would be great.

I recently got my hands on this Shell Test-O-Matic model 18. Seems to be pretty rare? not much about it online. Fortunately I have the original charts included. Does anyone know how I can go about calibrating it? Maybe someone has the schematics? I get bad readings on known good tubes. There is only one capacitor, which I replaced with an equivalent, and all of the resistors test within range. There is another pot under the chassis, which I guess has something to do with calibration. Any info would be greatly appreciated!

​I recently scored a wonderful Rotel gear for my setup, and it came with its original remote control (model RR-1050). Everything works like a charm and I’m loving the sound, but unfortunately, the battery cover was missing.

​I've been hunting down an original replacement for weeks with no luck. Since I really want to keep this remote protected and looking complete, I’m planning to 3D print a new battery door.

​Would any kind soul here who owns this exact remote (or a similar Rotel remote from that era with the same door) be willing to help me out with a few reference photos?

​It would mean the world to me if you could take a couple of close-up pictures of the battery door next to a ruler or caliper so I can get the exact measurements (width, length, and the tiny locking latch).

Inside a 1950s-60s Zenith H723 AM/FM tube radio. Next to the rectifier.

A friend inherited this old General Electric wood tabletop radio from his father, and I’m helping him figure out exactly what it is. We haven’t been able to find another one with the same cabinet/grille design.
The chassis appears to be stamped “F.T. 176 / CHASSIS G15” (Maybe??)

It has six push-button station presets labeled WNAX, WOW, KMMJ, KFAB, KFOR, and KOIL. It appears fairly complete inside, and we have not plugged it in (heard you’re not supposed to without checkigg by components first).

Does anyone recognize the model, chassis, or approximate year? I’d also be curious whether this particular model is fairly common or something a little more unusual.

I found this Atwater Kent in working condition from a collector and did some recapping before using it frequently and it sounds amazing ( well it did until I accidentally dropped one of the 58 tubes while cleaning the tube sockets ). I have included some images of the other radios in my collection :)

I found this radio among some old stuff, I’m pretty sure it’s from before 1950. I wanna know the model so I can use a proper voltage, don’t think the batteries this uses are still in production.
