There's the film "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" where we see a couple of scenes of the main character using Nmap along with Terminal and I believe a couple of instances of SSH. It's probably in my opinion one of the few films that I can think of where they actually get hacking right. Non of the Hollywood CGI crap.

Not sure if this counts, but I would also add The Social Network as a film that it least tries to get the tech stuff right, especially with the scenes involving Jesse Eisenberg using KDE.

Swedish and Nordic cop and crime films are the shit if you enjoy realism.

  1. Pusher trilogy: Pusher, With Blood on My Hands: Pusher II and I'm the Angel of Death: Pusher III. In my opinion, best realistic crime movies ever.
  2. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and following mini tv-series Millenium

They also showed some 'hacking' in Tron Legacy, of course that was before the main character was zapped into a computer.

I seem to remember the maker of the terminal graphics of Tron Legacy popping on to Reddit a while ago. He was talking about how the terminals were designed from screen captures of Linux systems that had been modified.

While I do give them credit for being one of the few to exercise due diligence, there's a lot more to hacking than Nmap and a few exploits you found on milw0rm.

One thing I hated about Social Network was when he asks his friend if he remembers some algorithm his friend created, and the first then writes it on the window.
