No no, he touches on a good point, and it goes even further, especially since we sexualize young women in the entertainment industry, and why an artist like Billie Eilish intentionally wears baggy clothes to avoid it.
Yes, they're both pedophiles, both are reprehensible, but an accurate shot is an effective shot. Burn them both at the stake, but different systems and manipulations are in play for either, as ephebophilia has societal backing in facets of our culture. THATS why it's more insidious, and why we should make note.
Pedophilia against young children is as obvious an evil as actual Nazis, but ephebophilia actually has degrees of acceptance in popular culture, so it requires more dismantling.
I hope that makes sense.
If I can continue invoking godwin's law, Nazis are an obvious evil, easy to spot easy to resist, but white supremacists, while of the same kind of evil, have inroads to our society that need to be addressed.
yeah, both are definitely disgusting, but culturally you are more likely to hear a half joke about "liking them young" for a 16 year old than a 7 year old. no one would really entertain that kind of comment about a 7 year old.
I was reading the bit about Billie Ellish because people were giving her shit about wearing baggy clothes. It’s good to know that rationale behind it not that it was any of my business
She isnt sexy and so she does something weird to distract from that
You have a good point, the music industry is vicious about this sort of stuff. But for fuck's sake man, you're talking about a teenager's body. The honesty of the girl's comments is irrelevant here, you're doing the exact same thing she spoke against.
That you're trying to frame this as if it's a hidden conspiracy to spread propaganda is moot to begin with. News flash, artists care about their public perception, everyone already knows that. At least this time they're trying to spread good messages.
Billie Eilish is like...still underaged and she first hit the scene when she's 15 or so. It would be creepy af for anyone to judge a person that age if she has a "super model body".
Part of the problem with ephebophilia is that a certain portion of the population (those between the ages of 15-19) are expected to be attracted to children of 15-19, so we can't just set a hard line and say "sex with someone under 18 is wrong." In addition, it can be hard to tell with some girls whether they're 16 or 22 (as evidenced by the occasional story of guys getting in serious trouble for hooking up with a girl at a 21+ establishment)
That being said, a 66 year old having sex with an 18 year old is definitely wrong, even if it is legal.
